    This is a good mixer and served my band well when we were starting out. Have since upgraded to digital, but still use my profx12 for small gigs, parties and as an audio interface. I did have one problem when a power surge (during an electrical storm) fried the PSU module in this mixer (use a good quality surge protector folks - it can and does happen!), but Mackie and the local distributor were damn decent with a prompt response, good advice and provided an out of warranty repair for just the cost of the part. So I can vouch for Mackie's after sales service.

    Very nice review thanks! We are considering this Pro FX12 vs the Mackie 1402VLZ mixer for live work. As I understand it the 1402 is more flexible and a better fit for broadcast, recording, or live, while the Pro FX12 is specific to live work with built in FX. The 1402 is also considerably more $$. Do you think the sound quality is equivalent and which do you recommend for a live band playing local and regional gigs?

    I use a couple of Mackies at work and the only thing I wish they would do that they don't (thinking of your comment about the high visibility knobs in subdued lighting) is... when the Mute button is down it should have a slow blinking or steady amber light to indicate that channel is muted. For those moments when someone, after a 1/2 hour break, decides to walk up to the podium mic and start talking with no notice. Within a second or two I guess- 2nd guess- 3rd guess myself, etc... did I remember to mute that before? if I tap it, will I mute them as they start to talk? Do I double tap it quickly hoping to feel the travel in the button, before their first words?

    great video! how would you connect it to a PC for the best audio? It comes with the USB connection but I would guess some quality is lost there? Should I look at getting something like Focusrite SCARLETT but it also just has a USB connection to the PC. I don't really have any monitors right now for the XLR Output unless one of my guitar amps has it and I didn't notice but I would need to check.

    Hey man... thank you for this great video! One question. What would you recommend for a congregation type setting? In our Hall, we have like 15 ceiling mounted speakers. Most of the time, there's no issues, but for some members, when they comment, instant feedback. We have to lower the volume pretty much all the way down making it hard to even hear their comment. Something about their voice tone or frequency that causes feedback, I don't know. Most of the time, it happens with the soft-spoken members. Anyway, we're using a TOA 900 series amplifier for the volume control. We're using the Shure SM58 wireless mics with a Shure BLX4R receiver. What would you recommend we do to help avoid that feedback?

    I have an older one without the USB. I haven't used it for years, but today I decided to play some tunes while waxing the car. Here is the problem. . . today while playing it and not too loud, the limiter light was flickering and after about 1 hour, it just started to kick out ... 2 minutes later come back on.
    I'm running a smartphone 1/8" to 1/4" plugs into channel 1 and 2, and I did have the bass turned up, but after turning the bass down, it just shuts down.
    I just remembered. I tried running the 1/8" stereo jack from the phone into the Yorkville NP25, using a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter and that also made the speaker's limiter light up AND the volume was very low and of course, only one channel. When I put the phone to mono, no sound at all.
    I was using only one speaker, but so what right? .... I know what to do, I should try the other speaker and see if I get the same problem, if I don't, then God dam it, I have a bad NP25 I guess.

      Johan Slabber it’s probably channels 7/8 and 9/10 where you don’t see xlr. So 7/8 would have a L and R 1/4” inputs , and same thing with 9/10. On my Yamaha I use 7/8 as a left/right for my dj controller, or a stereo (Ring/Tip) to 1/8” for an aux connection.
      Hope that helps, and hope I got my terminology correct lol

    • @nathangant7636
      @nathangant7636 Před 5 lety

      I've used a Mackie for years and love it. A Yamaha MG10XU mixing console was put in its place temporarily but I didn't like it, especially since there are no individual "mute" switches for each channel. This is very important. OTOH Yamaha has "gain" in the places where you'd expect a "mute". Switching from a Yamaha and when you're used to a Mackie, you may accidentally push to mute a channel, you're end up blasting noise into those mikes and speakers to kingdom come. Talk about waking up the dead! Stick with Mackie, especially if you only know enough to work as a sound tech to be dangerous.

    One IMPORTANT question PLEASE. I love your video's! Thank you! I bought this board but find the main meters to be VERY LOW responsive. They barely light. In order to have them light to full green I must fully push max volume. My audio tracks are normal volume (not low.) I'm only using 1 mic and audio player (no usb). I called Mackie and couldn't solve. You're an expert. Any thoughts PLEASE? I'd like to use my main meters. THANK YOU!!!

    • @ImChrisLuke
      @ImChrisLuke Před 5 lety

      The Meter is driven by the Main Fader, so make sure it’s turned up to get an accurate reading. If the resulting perceived volume is too loud, reduce the volume AFTER the mixer (power amp or whatever else is used).

    Hi Mike here from UK, I was very impressed with your informative presentation so I went and bought one but I can't find any information in the manual regarding this 'feedback supression' that you mention. I bought a pair of Mackie Thump 15 speakers and in our first gig using them we got feedback all the time. I certainly can't put a mic infront of the speakers without getting feedback. We've tried Shure and AKG mics but even with the speakers on half volume we get feedback. We did add some but not a lot of FX No 3 (small stage). Am I missing something? is there a button or particular setting that triggers this "Feedback Supression" to kick in ?

      What Model did you Buy? Let me know.
      Right from the Mackie specs For The ProFX12v2. (Designed specifically for live sound, Vita preamps are virtually noiseless, featuring a discrete Class-A front end design, dual feedback stabilization for unmatched low-noise performance).

      There is no magic. A few things that you should be aware of.
      1. When soloing and adjusting the gain, the fader should be at 0dB and the main meter should be around 0dB as well.
      2. Use the low cut buttons for all mics and line inputs except for the bass and kick drum.
      3. The graphic EQ bands should be at 0dB or just by pass it.
      4. Mics should be always behind the speakers.

      @1BBL5 Před 5 lety

      Oh lord.. Sorry, I'm a complete beginner with mixers and such.. I don't currently have the headphones cable. Didn't think I'd need it. I was under the impression the sound would go to my computer. Is that it? Because I'd speak into the mic and the soundbar on Waveform wouldn't move. Even though output and input were on USB.

    • @1BBL5
      @1BBL5 Před 5 lety

      So i got the headphones cable. I can hear every instrument thats plug in to the mixer on the headphones, but again, I go to audio devices on Soundwave, and put the Output and Input on USB Audio CODEC, then I press test, and nothing happens. I go to a song file and try to record and it says "Recording is only possible when at least one active input device is assigned to a track".
      Again, Im new at this, so any help would be appreciated..

      Wireless microphones normally come with their own electronic box to constantly communicate with the microphones. Inspect the electronic box and see what kind of inputs/outputs it has if it's able to connect to this mixer preferably wired.

    • @dahamus
      @dahamus Před 4 lety

      The profxV2 (Profx8 - 30) has usb and can be used as an audio interface - but note, it's usb output is only stereo L/R though, i.e. not 12 separate channels.

    • @dahamus
      @dahamus Před 4 lety

      @Jamie Hein The USB output from the Profx V2 mixers is a single stereo channel. You cannot record multiple mics onto individual tracks in a DAW (unless you record each channel/track one at a time). The newer ProFXV3 mixer range may have some multi channel output, but I don't own one of these and can't comment. For a mixer to use as a multi track interface maybe check out a Mackie DL16S or a Behringer XR18
