I prefer Jacob drumming to this song. There's a slight delay in the way he played it in one of his earlier vids that gives this(his) remake a very special twist. There's no limit to this maestro's capabilities. From the obvious to the more subtle right into the invisible. Thanks for sharing.
I was there such a great show! That drummer was on fire, very good. Jacob pulled out some cool half diminished voicings, I cant remember if it was during you and I or not.
When I can sneak in the time, Ill be posting the whole concert, which turned out fantastic. I was filming about 10 feet from Herbie Hancock upstairs. Great view from there!
Unreal He is the modern Mozart or the new version of a Prince if you will. He wouldn' t care less anyhow who he is compared to. I don' t hink he depends on public opinion at all although he has loads of empathy - just not self centered.
I have the dreaded 'Perfect Pitch', I could do it for you but it would take frickin AGES to write it all out. What wares do you have to trade for the charts?
I've gotta be honest. Jacob Collier and Thundercat are two artists who become 'mortal' once their sound becomes converted to a live environment. So much of their Olympus relative prestige is founded upon and harnessed within the freedom that comes with studio recording; the army mass of stacked harmonies, the crunch and gloss in the mixing, the clarity of the instruments...it just all seems to become rather 'human' once you chuck em on a stage with a quartet or an orchestra. I love them both more than Sapien tongue can aptly advocate for...but it seems abundantly clear that their sounds are destined to suffer once they hit a stage. Furthermore, this performance, though it was impressive, felt an awful lot like an exhibition of misc musical acrobatics, rather than a commendable revisit of a timeless classic.
I respectfully disagree. While this may not be close to the original piece, I think that the fact that he is able to change it so much while still having it's roots from another idea is magical. I think his real talent here is being able to take an idea, and make it completely his own. This is why people love Jacob. His creativity when it comes to making things his own and adapting them for us in highly complex way is really truly special and he really is a genius. That being said, Collier's work is not for everyone. Even if Beethoven and Van Gogh may be hailed as geniuses and rolemodels for their time, not everyone sees the greatness in them, that's what makes us human. Imagine how boring it would be if everyone enjoyed the same things for the same reasons. Another thing to note is that musicians tend to perform their song differently than the recorded version, not because they can't perform as well without the technology, but to make it different and distinct from the recorded version. They do this so people can have a break from the same song they listen to all the time, and this is the reason why a lot of people even go to live performances, for the altered rendition of their art that these musicians so love to create. I hope you can appreciate his art in the same way that I do and change your mindset in the future.
Simon Mitchell I go to live performances hoping for something different from an artist’s recorded music. I have never seen anyone quite like Jacob Collier. His recordings, CZcams concerts and master classes are enlightening, edifying, entertaining, elucidating, electrifying. He and his friends on stage share their joy in playing music and the audience is welcomed to join in. It is a delight to watch Jacob turn the audience into a chorus of ecstatic singers without a word being spoken.
Talbox part is sick, great homage to Stevie's version
the guy trapped in the piano seems happy 5:45

This is the best version so far. Everybody in the band hits a peak and that solo blew my mind. Blimey.
Jeff, thank you for posting all of these and in such high quality!! This is super great for the community and it's so appreciated.
Watching and listening to Jacob perform is like watching beautiful paintings being created. His new album cover makes complete sense!

Stop that Mozart comparisions, he's himself, just that is more powerfull than that old shitty social titles.
He’s more like Bach
because he’s making strides in the understanding of music theory
