- Have you ever fished out of a "Round Boat" like this Roundabout Watercrafts boat? Although they look a bit different than any type of boat we are used to, these round boats are pretty darn slick.

On the way back to Tampa from Boca Grande last week, Luke and I decided to stop in Ruskin (the Roundabout Watercrafts home office) to do a test run after we have heard numerous anglers talking about this round fishing boat.
After spending a solid hour driving around, making some casts, and testing it out every way we could, we left pretty impressed.
Not going to replace our boats by any means, but it certainly could play a role in an easy to transport one man fishing vessel.

just saw one of these for sale - couldn't figure out what the heck it was supposed to be. Your video review is excellent - all the details AND demos of moving it/rolling it. well done!
Thanks for watching!
Same! Was super confused on Facebook marketplace 🤣
I've been waiting for a Roundabout vs Ultraskiff test, I don't get why no one has done that yet. It seems like a worthy test.
Like what? There are plenty of stability test videos and alike... what else do ya need
I love mine!! Very stable and easy to use. I got the 2 seat option and am glad I did! I don't fish, but live on a lake and wanted a way to enjoy the wildlife. Perfect!
I heard Noah's Arc was round, is the round shape more stable against massive waves from all directions?
I know it's harder and slower to maneuver, but they don't have a specific destination at that time, their purpose was solely to survive inside that ship arc
Love mine. Very versatile and stable. You will never go back to any other small skiff once you use your Roundabout Boat. Make sure you get the single and double seat setup. Your friends will enjoy it with you. I have a balance problem and made to PVC poles with hardwood dowel in the center for getting on and off. Impressed with this boat. Todd and crew are awesome. You will not be happy with anything else.
We do have a canopy coming out this weekend for it. Watch our Facebook page and CZcams channel for the pics and video. Thank you to Salt Strong for doing this video we really appreciate it!
great review! you've answered most my questions about. not saying in going to sell kayak, I got too much invest to include pole rack, live well which I just completed in August, small electric ice chest with integrated small tackle box. Though it's not powered. I refuse to power it at the moment cause in California it would then have to be registered and I don't fully understand that part yet, though, it is in my future plans.
I know this is an old vid but I am interested in this boat. My only concern is what do you do if you have issues with the trolling motor or battery? This looks totally impossible to paddle.
A good alternative to this would be the Bic Sportyak 245. My dad picked a used one up for me for Christmas for $400. Since then I put a Minn Kota 30lb thrust trolling motor with a little 12v battery and it runs great. I get out on the water almost everyday and go after some Snook and Jack along the mangroves. I love that little boat.
Cory
Not sure if it is a "good alternative". Like larger fishing kayaks it is also large and heavy. One person cannot cartop load it. I have a 100lb kayak that I cartop loaded for one season. The next year I had a custom trailer (designed by yours truly) and it made a world of difference. The key for many of us who want small vessels is the ability to transport them to and from a body of water and storing them. This looks nice but not without a trailer and a large shed or garage.
I live in Texas and fish south padre island on the bayside...how would this hold up??
I came across this video randomly and I thought “this is goofy lol” but this is a very thorough demonstration, my guy. I already have a boat but if I didn’t I consider this little guy. Haha
Never know what will surprise you!
Looks cool, would love to get one, only thing holding me back is the price
so have you got some time on this? I am torn I like a ocean kayak big game prowler ii and this. what do you guys think?
It's a self-propelled fishing buoy.
Next time your in the area let me know id love to go fishing with you guys!
Thanks very informative video
can a railing be added to the front, so that I can stand up and fish ? I need some extra stability for balance. who are the Canadian distributors ?
what are the detentions of the boat? What size bed would I need to throw it in the back and secure it? I drive a tacoma.
Do you have an videos of how difficult it would be to pull it out of the water without the trailer? Thanks.
This video is the only one we have on the Roundabout Watercraft. The easiest way to transport it on the ground without is by flipping it up and rolling it. For size and weight details, here's a link to see its specs: www.roundaboutwatercrafts.com/benefits-and-specs-for-the-roundabout-watercrafts-one-man-round-boat/
How shallow can it go? Is it good for floating on creek
I bought mine a year ago best boat made.Don't knock it tillyoutry it.Thanks Todd.
Just saw this video, I realize it's been around for awhile. I wonder if they would be good in very swift water (anchored behind a small hydro dam) for catfishing.
Yes we have had clients use them in swift currents in rivers catching trout and stripers.
For long-distance travel just carry two car batteries you can put it in one of the other compartment
HookedOn TheBay with a 55#thrust Minn Kota trolling motor it is right around 4 mph.
aRoundabout Watercrafts
I really think I want to go this route. I wonder how bad it is in the wind. I know it would be slow. Would a gas outboard make a difference.
You can tip a job boat. I'm 6 foot 6 so I'm not sitting in a kyak all damn day I'm definitely getting one. This summer!!
watch my tall ass fish for hours on a round boat I live in Ohio and we do lots of wadeing. those days are over for me.
manny check out blue sky boat works
I heard Noah's Arc was round, is the round shape more stable against massive waves from all directions?
I know it's harder and slower to maneuver, but they don't have a specific destination at that time, their purpose was solely to survive inside that ship arc
BS you did. It wasn't real...but the description of it isn't round haha...BUT some of the skin/ hide boats the Polynesians used and many other cultures did were round.
That is the darndest coolest watercraft ever.
You could honestly fish a tournament with this , just get a 50 or more pound thrust trolling motor and add an aerator to one of the storage boxes and bam!!
I have a trolling motor rigged on the back of my kayak and I go about 3.5mph top speed. I wonder how fast that goes? I would love to fish on one of those!
+HookedOnTheBay Good stuff Hookedonthebay! The speed of the Roundabout Boat will be slower than what would be seen in a kayak given the amount of water drag it has compared to a kayak.
This boat isn't build for speed... more for stability and comfort.
how good is it going shallow?
Looks like a Great little Pond boat too. What is it's big guy weight

Would there be any way to attach electronics to this craft? (Fish/Depth finder)
Cody there is a way that we have done electronics by using Rail Blaza accessories. Very easy to put on a depth finder.
Where can I buy one of these ??
I know this is old video.. but how is it in the current? Like a estuary with fighting the tides?
It shouldn't be too bad, we didn't test it out in that scenario.
Will this fit on a roof rack on a car? I want this but dont know how I'll transport but I cant afford the trailer at the moment
how much does it weigh?
How hard is it to get back in if you fall out? Does it tip badly then?
It is pretty stable actually. 💪
what if the engine breaks.?like is there oars for it?
Buy collapsible oars
Since it is basically a coracle, all you need is one oar that you use in a figure eight.
Make a primitive sail for it with a couple of fiberglass rods...?
@@gregorybrown4062 Or go around in circles
how would you have a cooler, bait bucket, tackle box and other gear and be able to move around or access the storage boxes ?
steve ford plenty of room on deck plus 4 huge storage compartments.
Yes there is 22sq feet of deck space. We have had a drone case, and 2 big camera cases and still had the whole other side of the deck to fish of off.
steve ford~ Way better'n you could on a kayak!
I have a cooler that can hold 24 16oz bottles that I fill with a 10lb bag of ice(30lbs), 2 62lb Exide Stowaway Marine/RV Deep Cycle Batteries (1 in front and 1 in rear to balance out 124lbs), Endura Max Trolling Motor (55lbs), I'm 220lbs, fishing equipment maybe 50lbs, totaling about 479lbs and the boat is rated at about 675 interior weight. That leaves me room a little over 190lbs to be under max... It's sturdy.
Terry Young. Is there a 2 man version
What do you do with the battery once it’s run out of juice? Charge it?

did you visit zoffinger while you were there
this was before zoffinger moved there when there was no carpet
Could lights be put on for night fishing?
Definitely. A batter op could be mounted or wire something in.
I'm torn. I saw the Ultraskiff 360 before I saw this one. The 360 is WAY more expensive. However, he built that thing so you can build oar locks, and a bunch of other accessories simply using PVC. I've heard that this one has more storage, as well, though... Want one of the 2, just can't decide which...
I'm in the same situation at you right now. I fell in love with the idea of the Ultraskiff first then just actually saw this vid in an ad. I'd just like to know if you have bought one yet and which one you chose. I cannot decide between the two lol
ive had an ultraskiff for about a year now and i absolutely love it, i cant speak for this one cause ive never used it but round boats in general are great for fishing smaller lakes
UltraSkiff is more expensive, less stable and less durable
same here I'm leaning toward this one
I really like this boat do you all have any brochure you can send me. How much would a two seater cost with trailer and trolling motor. Been talking to my fishing buddy about this boat I can't afford by myself right now. Be Bless
Here's a link to their website: roundaboutwatercrafts.com
We do not sell Roundabout Boats, so you'll need to contact them directly to get accurate pricing information.
they should make a canopy for it
+JovayElisabeth Sanchez Great idea!
+Salt Strong it could mount in the rod holders
Here is the video for the canopy! facebook.com/roundaboutwc/videos/610651145768642/
That would stuff it up with all the poles
it reminds me of a coracle
omg i want one so bad
This craft weighs a bit over 100lbs. I weigh 225. If I go overboard, how hard is it to get back aboard? Also- what's the diameter and do they have bigger models?
David I'm 220lbs and that was the test I did in my pool. Got back in with ZERO problem and the pool is deep enough where I tred water in the life jacket so I didn't push off the bottom. News Flash.... I can't swim either but don't take my life jacket off. The watercraft is solid.
@@UnLikeUAfter all these years how do you feel about it
@dailygaminn2918 Sir I'm on my 4th actual boat vs personal watercraft since then.👍 Been 6 years since I had those. They were good boats. I'm sure Tim has only upgraded his technology since then.👍 Great guy.
It's a bumper boat . Figures someone did this finally
How much do they cost?
how much does it weigh?
Basically a yeti tank with a deck and trolling motor
"Bad thing about kayaks"? The good thing about SOT kayaks is the seat doesn't wobble. @0:52
@7:27 "You don't have to worry about falling in"? You do if you are not wearing a PFD. Not sure that doing a demo without a PFD is a reasonable representation of good seamanship in very small vessels.
This appears to be NOVEL idea as a rental to get on the water for an hour or two but very impractical if you were an avid water enthusiast and were transporting it to and from bodies of water. If you are younger with good balance good on ya! But I am in my 60's and I have no interest in STANDING in a kayak, canoe or a raft for that matter. A nice seat that sits much lower might be a better option. They need a way to mount a chase lounge chair in there so the ladies can stretch out and do a little sunbathing.
Lastly I can't imagine what the cost would be for a custom Roundabout boat trailer from Loadmaster Trailers. After looking at Loadmaster Trailer's website and actually searching the internet for this trailer I could not find one or a price. The rule of thumb here is, if you have to ask how much, you cannot afford it. The affordability of the Roundabout boat is very fair but still the vessel, in my opinion, is impractical, I'll stick with my Jackson Bite.
Thanks for the demo Salt Strong!
Thanks for watching!
No live well?
If you're getting one, please call it Pietanic.
🤣🤣🤣 Noted!
We're can I buy one
Here's their website to see exactly where they are located (Ruskin, FL) and where their dealers are: www.roundaboutwatercrafts.com/
Thanks Salt Strong. If you mention Salt Strong we will throw in their hat and stickers for the boat!
I saw they were over 1000 dollars, you can get a Jon Boat for that much.
Gary Jones sometimes depending on where you live you can get a Jon boat for $200 or more... and where you get it...
Gary Jones finding a Jon boat this stable under $1000 isn't easy
MrBlurberries Shit, where I live you can find a nice sized boat for around $1000. Most you need is a little cleaning up but as far as the boat goes their mostly in great shape.
That's not a lot of money, and these are way better then a Jon Boat for one person.
Stands on edge and the rope holds it down from tipping 😂
can you use this in saltwater what do you do if your battery rounds out is there anyway you can use paddles I'm close to South Padre Island Texas
Yes, it can be used in saltwater. Paddling this would be very difficult, so it would be recommended to make sure you know exactly how long your battery power can last. Given how light this boat is, a typically battery will enable a lot of ground to be covered.
It does circles well, go figure. Were there any psychedelics involved in the engineering of this boat?
Why ask when you already know, since you did sell them the shrooms!
Cool... nice to use on river but beach... I think is danger use on beach with waves...
+Wagner Santana It handled surprising well with boat waves, but we agree, we would not launch this from a beach unless it was a calm day.
Drain plug?
Great question! Make sure to ask this over on the actual blog or in the Community (www.saltstrong.com/) where the coaches spend their time. The blog can be found here:
www.saltstrong.com/articles/roundabout-round-boat-review/
Where is your life Jacket, yoyu should have it on.
wonder if theres a two person verison
they sell the 2 seater on their site
no live well?..
Many people convert one of the 4 storage bins into a live well (I think Roundabout may do this as an upgrade feature for their customers.
What if you weigh 250 lbs?
Check out the full review of this round boat by Roundabout Watercrafts here:

How much is that..??🤩
3.5-5k
When the battery dies in the middle of the lake, then what? If you could row this boat, I don't think it would be easy!
Managing the battery is very important in this boat because paddling it can be difficult due to its round shape.
Can have a spare battery?
Yes plenty of storage for a spare battery!
Jump in and swim
My thoughts are to build a lightweight frame for this boat that could have you enclosed in the boat, with a space open to be able to fish from.:)
I believe they sell those too for people who want to have shade while out on the water.
it would be nice if it works with small gas engines. 6hp would be perfect.
It is rated for a 2hp. We run a 2.5 on it
whats the weight cap? you standing on the edge at a buck twenty aint really showing a lot 🤣
Check out the full review of this round boat by Roundabout Watercrafts here:

Put a 5hp motor on it
Max recommended is 2HP. But if its your boat you can do what you want to do. LOL... I wouldn't though...
I just want to see it gong fast and how it glides
to be continued...
Need oars.. in case batt run out...!! ... no oars...🤔🤔... how peoples get back if in case batt is bad.. ????
Not meant for 2 people and not meant for 2 or 3 ft waves just flipped one luckily we were in 4 ft of water
3ft waves in 4ft of water? What???
This vs the Ultraskiff360?
The Roundabout has 22 square feet of flat deck space where Ultraskiff has very little flat deck surface. The only similarities is that they are round. The Roundabout has 10 different colors to choose from, you can buy the trolling motor and seat with the Roundabout for $1400 delivered to your door where the Ultraskiff is $1595 just for the boat. We also offer a 2 seat accessory. We have a ton of different accessories that our competition does not offer.
ultraskiff??
The boat in this video is made by Roundabout Boats. Ultraskiff is a separate company that also makes round boats.
Can I just strap it on top of a car?
I have seen videos with the Roundabout on a car top. I will check with the company, but I see no reason why that wouldn't work.
The Irish pub in using round boats for at least a thousand years, they call him coracles. look it up this is not a new idea matter fact it's so old that is boring
(like you!)
