Making a tiered wedding cake or large stacked cake can be intimidating, but with the Cake Stacking Construction System, it doesn’t have to be. This new system allows you to easily create a sturdy stacked cake that holds up during travel.
TOOLS
- Center Core Rods: s.wilton.com/1ET088s
- Support Rods and Caps: s.wilton.com/1H4hQK3
- Perforated Center Cake Boards: s.wilton.com/1Rh3Gbh
TIPS
-Everything you need to know before you stack your cakes: s.wilton.com/1JSpCXZ
- Cut a small hole in fondant covered cakes to make it easy for the center core to slide in.
- To determine the number of support straws needed for your individual cake tiers, divide the cake diameter in half.
- Cut support rods 1/16 inch below the cake height, so that the support cap sits flush with the top of the cake.

I used this support system for my niece's wedding cake this weekend. The cake had to travel 1 and a half hours in the car. Also, the wedding was an outdoor wedding!! The cake held up beautifully. I would recommend this system!!!!!
+Barbara Greenwell Thank you, so glad you enjoy this product!
Barbara Greenwell it was foundan or bitter cream I'm new doing cake thanks
I have LONG struggled with stacking cakes but this video gave me all I needed and I'm happy to say my cake stacking went just as the video said. Thank you so very much!
I love this video! it was very clear and easy to follow-- I loved the enthusiasm and the fact that it got right to business.
this is great - cake definitely looks stable and secure for transporting
Please provide a video on how to use this system with buttercream frosted cakes. Based on this video, how would you get the top tier if it buttercream without messing up the frosting?
GiGi stack the cakes before frosting them.
so helpful...excited to do this wedding cake now
Hi, I need help on how to use the separators plates + their pillars.
Great video!
thank you guys sooooo much!!!!!
now i can make my 2 tier cake wit out having to worry about assembling my cake
:-)
Can I use this rods for 2 tier sponge cake ?
Can you do a tutorial for this for a topsy cake?
I'd definitely try these for fondant covered tiered cakes, but I'm leery of trying for only buttercream tiered cakes.
Looks very fiddly to use. We use the sturdy cake stackers system which is a lot easier to use and comes with the boards already pre-drilled and also it goes through the bottom board which makes it safer and stronger. You can also take the sturdy cake stackers out and use it again if you wish to.
Same for Square tier?
Hye.. How can I get it.?
bravoooo
Does the same technique apply for different shaped cakes like heart and square cakes.
ARIEL RAYBURN Great question! As long as the center core rods are centered and the rods & caps are equalized on the cake.
How do the center core rods work if you tier is taller than 4 inches? They come in a set height and can only be made shorter.
All Jinny you can add a shorter one to reach the desired height you need
can i use them for a 5 tier cake?
All I have to say is holy crap
Great video; thanks. The only thing that would make it better is to have the audio in sync with the video. :-)
genial
how much?
if I'm making 2 tierd cake, n its going to be transported I have to use this same method
Would you recommend us decorating the cake after we stack it with the Dalles
Hi Julia, It depends on the kind of decoration that you'd like to put on the cake. Here's a video that explains what decorations are best before stacking and after stacking. Hope this helps! czcams.com/video/XuAKaierSms/video.html&t=86
@@wilton 👍👍 thanks for the link
you speak of perforated cake boards. I have looked on Wilton.com and online and can't find them. Where can a person find the circles with the centers pre cut?
I accidentally bought some, they sell them at Walmart.
The same thing can be achieved simply with dowel, except that these can all be inserted from above, meaning that you won't get the blowout through the top of the fondant
here is my biggest question: how do you serve this kind of cake?
Emily Ciner you start at the top
Princess Slytherin That's wrong. Never serve the top layer. That's for the bride & groom. Start at the second tier & go down. Serve in wedges.
Lol...No, you don't serve in wedges. Standard wedding cake serving size is 1 x 4 x 2. 1 inch across, 2 inches deep & minimum of 4" high.
mb20fan well someone's done their research 😊
Always start with the bottom. Serve the bigger one first because if there is leftovers the smaller tiers are easier to store.
I know that they are necessary but I really don't like cake support rods in cakes because I feel like it runs the cake and you can't cut into it properly
daisydoodlepops to properly cut a wedding cake, it's unstacked and the support rods are removed before cutting.
how many layers in each tier?
+Jamie Dupard You can create several layers and tiers, just be sure you have enough support rods and caps and center core rods to fully support your cake
hmmm, this cake was covered with fondant and she had her hands on the side. Wonder how this works with a buttercream iced cake. I have some doubts.
Linda Hill You put the cake on there first, then ice each layer while assembling
Linda Hill It really is quite easy with the proper tool.
Linda that's what I ways thinking cake are heavy and to crap them to see where's the hole.. There's going to be finger marks all on the side. :/
Irma562 Mart Freeze your BC cakes for 15 min. and then they are firm and resistant to marks. You can then assemble and move them as needed. Stack away!
+Linda hill frost after or well making
Where can I get Wilton product
Michaels, AC Moore, online and Walmart. But Walmart doesn't have as much stuff
Thank you
+Ythj Gnn amazon or wilton.com
On my god I've always wanted to make a tiered cake but I don't think I'm ready cuz I'm 12 and I only started baking at 10. I really want to work at Wilton when I'm older
how is the bottom tier secured to the board?
Most people just use a dollop of buttercream on the board.
I use tape underneath 1st tier board n cake board.
Thank you!
Valicore Thank you
Pavi Fuentes Thank you
Can I use these methods for buttercream cakes?
Rebekah Rodriguez yes
Yeah.. That's easy too do with fondant, but don't think with buttercream!
sweet562 Mart u have to freeze ur buttercream cakes for
At least 20 mins it will be firm eneough to resist any hand prints!
If your cake is nice and chilled you won’t mess up your buttercream
When using this in a Wedding Cake, unless you know the Family. The stacking system will not be returned to you. This will be a loss. Hopefully the stacking system is not expensive.
Then charge them the additional cost of the stacking system in the cake price .
pixiecupcake75 somehow that doesn't work for me. We drive very far and already brides complain about cake prices.
pixiecupcake75 Exactly.
pixiecupcake75 you could charge a deposit and let them know when it is returned they get their deposit back, If you charge what replacement cost is your not losing any thing if not returned.
this system is only about 7 bucks at my Michael's
Support dowels need to be right under the cake layer to allow proper support.. not half through.. that will create a disaster!
.
.
I am calling bs in this because first, off I bought these support rods and center rod kit for a cake for my sisters baby shower. I tried to cut them with scissors like in the video and it would not cut. I even tried a utility knife and a very sharp chef knife and none of them made a dent in the rods. I don't know what kind of scissors you used in the video but they are not regular scissors. Wilton is a good brand I've used other products from them before this tho I'm disappointed
Hi, We're sorry to hear you had trouble with the rods. This is not the experience we'd like you to have with our products. Please send us an e-mail at info@wilton.com and if you still have them, please send photos as well. Thanks for letting us know.
It looks messy... She looks so "excited weird"!
Well it's not done of course.
This ladies voice irritates me! And that cake was soooo wobbly! Trust me guys, use boba straws! Cheap, and EFFECTIVE!
Its boba straws better to use? I never done a 3tier it well be my first time
Dont like this system!.. time consuming! And not Efficient!
