  • Fallon's Angler goes in search of a 2lb perch on the river Kennet. Kevin Parr returns to Aldermaston Mill after a long break and reflects on the river and the fishing while chasing winter chub and perch, and wondering what the legacy of the river might be after all the years that have past. Despite those intervening years, the river, though far from what it used to be, is still capable of a surprise or two.

A wonderful video, loved the perch. The red kite at the end was a stroke of genius.

When I was home on leave from the army I'd go Barbel fishing here on the day ticket stretch. My uncle introduced me to fishing when I was seven. I took him here where he caught a Barbel of 6 pounds and it was probably his last trip before he died.

Superb video. Great fish. Lovely old school trotting tactics. All that's missing is a bit of Bernard Cribbens narration and it could be a lost piece from an episode of A Passion For Angling. ☺ Terrific stuff. 👍

Love that top weir at the Old Mill. Had my first barbel there and my largest chub (5lb 10oz) back in the early 90s.

A lovely film and did I see a a Saints fan in there? And possibly a Century Composites float rod?

I can vouch for the Saints scarf, not sure about the rod, I recall it was a family heirloom!

This is how fishing should be. A beautifull river, rod and centrepin. (What pin are you using ? ) And time for a cup of tea or coffee.

      🤦‍♂️
Otters are at the top of the aquatic food chain, they are a native predator and are a key indicator of the health of the river. Mortality on roads and habitat degradations continues to have a negative impact on otter populations.

@@gbwildlifeuk8269 what a load of rubbish, there was an extensive reintroduction campaign and since then they have devastated a lot of our waterways, I know, we had to sort out a problem with them on our syndicate lake, shame you can’t ask the great John Wilson who fished all over the country what his thoughts were on them.
