An initial review of what think is the BEST DAILY RUNNING SHOE ON THE MARKET RIGHT NOW. The ADIZERO SL 2 gives amazing underfoot feel and grip, with versatility for a really great price at retail.
This is a shoe I have bought with my own cash for review. Not a soul is sponsoring me or vetting my views before you get to see them.
My pair are a uk 11 and fit TRUE TO SIZE.
I comment on the upper, midsole and outsole after my initial runs.

Seems like a another banger from 3 stripes. Supernova Rise was quite a surprise, great shoe just less versatile then SL2.

I'm actually a fan of V1, especially for the prices I found them at. Top pay 48$ US, low 24$ US. I even wear 1 pair just for casual (Black/white) because I like the style. The one thing I have with V1 is the outsole doesn't last with my running mechanics. I am killing them quickly. It looks like they may have the same outsole material on V2. I love the look of the V2 and the updates they did based on your review, but if that is the same outsole material I will be hawking deals again. Great review as always Ed, hope your day is well
Thanks so much for this review. I wouldn't have discovered this for months, probably. What a refreshing change of pace to have major shoe makers doing a plain ol', "boring," simple shoe that does it all for a reasonable price. Who knew runners wanted that? I mean aren't we all spending $300 on carbon plated stuff so our 5Ks can dip under 20mins? Yes, that's snark font. Love your take on this. Obviously there's no guaranteed correlation between price and quality/use case. Nice work!
Did some 5 min half marathon paced reps today in these. Worked just fine!
It’s great to read the adizero team refined the SL to fill the needs of experienced runners and newer runners alike. A very close family member began running not long ago, and he grabbed the SL on my recommendation. He loves it, so he’ll be happy to know the SL2 is even better.
I recall doing the adizero R2R live chat a few years ago, the SL20 was relatively new then, and nagging the moderator about when they planned to put the SL in the range it kinda created way back in 1972. The mod assured me they saw the same opportunity I saw, and they were working on it.
This is a strong range:
SL2 (no frills, but still solid)
Adios8 (OG adizero madness)
Boston12 (super dialed back)
Takumi Sen10 (lo stack racer)
Adios Pro3 (super racer)
Adios Pro Evo (super elite racer)
Prime X (experimental super)
This new version is right up there Amado. Really nice versatile shoe. You will love it!
100% just finished my first run in these and for the price they're incredible and punch way above their weight. The fact that adidas isn't promoting this more in favor of the Supernova is a travesty

Reminds me of the 20' SL20, launched ar low prices and as an entry fast shoe... I bought it realy undernaketed, in a sale, and later on had to do quite a research to understand what was that about.
I still have him, one exotic dinossaur of the flat low stack shoes era....

Cool to see training shoes getting some usable updates. Everyone seems to be horny for race shoes, so the shoes that are used for actually putting in the miles get forgotten.

I believe SL2 has become what Rebel is to NB. Not just another daily trainer as it used to be. Now their workhorse daily trainers are the Supernovas. I am definitely getting this one if the fit is right.
Whenever I see a black Adidas shoe, I think of the "Samba", my youth on the gravel soccer field and lots of bleeding knees...🥰 Beautiful memories from about 40 years ago. Dankeschön & Greetings from Berlin🙋♂
Yes the samba was a crazy good shoe. You could get good bend on the football with that toe bumper

Really pleased to see the turnaround for the SL2 - as I picked up the SL and it's a shocker. Relegated to hill work only, and that's as relegated as it gets really.
It was like a wooden shoe. This is nothing like it fortunately!
My pair arrived yesterday and just walking about in them and doing a short stride (got a bit of a foot niggle) then immediatly felt so much better than the previous SL which I agree was terrible. Somewhat softer (but not too soft) and could definitely feel that increased layer of Lightstrike Pro on toe off. Also it is 40g lighter for me than the Boston 12 in a UK 13.5 and comes in just over 300g which puts it even fraction lighter than the Speed 4. So for a "daily" type shoe it is indeed "Super Light". Although I went "TTS" (for adidas) I did feel the length wasn't generous so feel some may want to consider going up 0.5 size. Also it fits well for my narrow foot but, as you say, wider footed runners may struggle.

Pleased to hear it is a good fit for us narrow footers. The Boston 12 was completely unsuitable for me - I found it to be an Incredibly wide fit and platform (akin to wearing snow shoes!) 👍
@@lordedmundo23 yeah similar thoughts on the Boston 12. I tried to like it but just could not. Lots of runners said it got softer after a break in period but I did about 75 miles in them and still found it quite firm and clumpy. Although the Boston 11 was heavier I kind of liked it more as fitted me better although did not do a great deal in them. This SL2 kind of feels more like the older Bostons.
@@TimGroseran over 1000miles in SL20 shoes and about 750 in the Boston 12. I’ve really got on with the Boston, but it definitely feels ‘wide’ and ‘heavy’ about 270g in my 8.5 when compared my go to tempo still being the Adios 6, at 230g and narrow fit. I think the SL2 should be great for me, but with a 10% discount the Boston at £126 vs SL2 at £99 doesn’t feel much more money for more shoe.

I just got mine in the mail from Adidas yesterday. It feels so much softer and more comfortable underfoot than the first version, which was horrible. Adidas knew what they had to do. More Lightstrike Pro! ⚡️

I had arch issues with the first version especially left foot. Are these wider or do they have less pronounced arch support?
@@jeffbarnard348 they are definitely not wide shoes, but the comfort and support underfoot surpass the first version by far.

Loved the original SL20, it was a cracking shoe once you picked up the pace so this one really intrigues me. I may have to wait for some better colours to come out though!
V1 def firm, I can actually feel where the LS pro pod ends and reg LS surrounds it cuz it doesn’t compression, but I do like them for walking.
V2 def seems like a awesome upgrade and def will be getting a pair or two 😏

I'm really enjoying the original SL that I picked up for $40 a few months ago. It did take a good 20 to 30 mi to break in and not feel quite so harsh, but since then they've seem to have opened up and really offer a lot of protection and responsiveness. I'm really hoping to get my hands on the SL2 maybe towards the end of the year. Hopefully (for my wallet at least) they'll be discounted just like the original was. Though it sounds like this one is going to be a bigger hit than the original.

@@EDDBUD The Adios 8 feels a bit more like a racing shoe to me with a lower to ground feel and is a bit lighter but suspect the SL2 now will be a bit more versatile as a general trainer. Rumours the Adios 9 is going to be even more "racy". If so definitely ought to have its place.

When I saw these at Start Fitness it was almost an immediate buy. But Ive always been weary about Adidas sizing. Adios 6 I went half a size up, wish I didn't, Boston 10 went half a size up, glad I did.....always been abit inconsistent.

I went half a size up with the SL2. Glad I did as they would have pressured the toes a little too much on longer runs.
Thanks for the review Edd 👍 Finally an Adidas shoe that may suit me (narrow fit and with a comfortable upper). Given the great reviews this shoe is getting - adidas probably need to reduce the price of version 1 to around a tenner! Even then I don't think I would buy a pair 😆

It all looks like a shoe what would appeal to me....less bells and whistles....a bit lower stack. But the narrowness would be the limiting factor for me. I need that toe box width and depth!

Probably gonna get this one next. I have the first version but it's a tiny bit too small. It was on sale so I bought it anyway but probably shouldn't have. Adidas is the only manufacturer where I need almost a full size more than with any other brand. But the Lightstrike sole is really great.

Why is the 9mm a bad point?
@@EDDBUD 8mm is my max and even then a bit much. Much prefer lower drop shoes (like the Axon 3 😄)
I feel like majority of internet dwellers want lower drop shoes yet companies keep delivering higher drop. 🤔
So I have the original SL's and some Altra Escalantes. They honestly don't feel that different while running to me. I believe I'm a heavy forefoot striker though, so that could be why I don't notice the drop so much. While walking they feel wildly different though.

I am enjoying the SL and will eventually pick up a pair of the SL 2. I'm not sure if it is released in the United States yet. It's strange that Adidas hasn't marketed this shoe as much. Maybe they have in Europe but not in the U.S.

just ordered mine on US website yesterday used a code and scored it for $91 dollery doos. Will it best the awesome 2020 summerready sl20. we shall see.

Just picked up the Velocity Nitro 3s for $86 aud a steal at that price for a no nonsense workhorse of a daily trainer, purely using for easy paces and occasional long run. I love the look of this SL2 which at full price still looks good value and be easy to pick up with an adidas 20% off voucher or discount codes elsewhere. Adidas really stepping it up with recent releases and actually innovating rather than churning out the same bog standard stuff like their checkmark like rivals

Price is unbelievable for the overall build and quality of materials used. Am very impressed with the fit/comfort along with the soft but responsive cushion. Laces are the only weak point of this sneaker.
Yes a really good cheap ish option. Does loads of stuff really well.
I actually really like the original SLs, put 1200km on my first pair and the upper still has almost no wear. Got a second pair for half price.
If the SL2 is a little softer that would be a great thing though as some days I do wish for a bit more cushion. I also don’t race the SLs as they’re ok, but not great, if these are faster it would seem Adidas addressed all the shortcomings of the original.

Fantastic vid Edd as usual! A niche question if you'll humour me: Does this have a similar level of cushion to the Boston 12? For some reason I'm enjoying the B12 a lot more than my foreverruns for easy runs (FR feels a lot firmer for some reason), and if the SL2 feels the same it'll be an insta-buy for me, and will maybe shift the B12 to be for faster efforts. More true to size. Still a more tapered toebox but overall more forgiving fit.
The original is one of my worst shoe purchases ever. It just feels like a cheap-arse shoe. Luckily I bought it for a relatively cheap-arse price. I bought it in all black and thought I'd just wear it as a walking shoe if running in it wasnt great. Unfortunately walking was also not doable even though I'm pretty good at walking. The shoe managed to have plenty of length, bit still feel too short due to the tapering of the toe box. It also managed to feel super low volume and have heel slip at the same time. Great stuff.

Funny on another channel I commented on similar lines about the SL and somebody replied who clearly liked the SL and said had never heard a bad word about it. Really... :) SL2 indeed seems much better.

@@EDDBUD It seems a common theme that if you have a shoe that you like then seeing adverse comments on it puts some in defensive mode and indeed vice versa. Guess me too sometimes. That said I do recall some prominent ShoeTubers actually liking the SL so good there is so much choice.

Why would I suggest the shoe is good value after buying it and then enjoying running in them!? It’s on Strava and logged! Oh well, what can you do?! It does appear these troll like users always have “username” then numbers after them. Imagine a world where people get enjoyment from causing division?!
I had the Boston 12 and I put so many miles on it I had to buy a shoe and went with puma velocity nitro 3 because bostons are sold out everywhere, might have to go back to adidas again but for the sl2! Super excited

Hahah, the SL1 was great! I bought 3 pairs (all in discount) now after feeling the wonderful gumminess of the midsole after they break in. Sounds like you bought a size too small and weren’t able to enjoy it.

@@EDDBUD so curious. We seem to like the same shoes generally for several years. I bought SL in all black for work and felt so much love, ended up buying more for running. I feel the first SL was firm like a Hyperion Tempo with more padding, but became much softer than the Hyperion. (6’0” 81kg) I better check out your SL1 review!

Also does anyone think the Peg 41 is just a slightly redesigned Vomero 17? Nike have really run out of ideas.

i just ran 6 miles in it today and felt it had no bounce or fun to be honest. returning it. honestly these more traditional daily trainers need to up their game. shoes like the rebel v4 or hoka mach 6 or the novablast v4 have more bounce, lighter weight and are just FUNNNNN. this, the velocity nitro 3 etc are just not FUN anymore.

@@EDDBUD yes i literally got it monday ran in the boston 12 yesterday and it was fantastic as usual. ran in the novablast 4 monday and that was fun. ran in this today and it felt like a brick. my triumph 21 has more bounce and fun.
I have the sl version 1 and it worked very well for me, I still use it and it has around 1200 km, it softened around 200 km. I don't think the durability of the new version is inferior, it must

Not sure yet. Anything with a touch more length for a runners knot. These are a bit rough
I just dont like that standard Lightstrike foam. The pro foam is an absolute banger though 👌🏻 This ones a Nay from me, waiting for my Neo Vista to be delivered 😊

@@paulmulks There was a video with an adidas rep where the presenter said Lightstrike 2.0 and he wasn't corrected, so that _maybe_ proves it. Does seem like everyone is saying it's softer than last year's lightstrike (1).

That’s a difficult one. Certainly more pop from the Boston. Both are fun though more plush here from the upper

Solid review, Ed. I personally disliked the Boston 12… too firm and the toe rocker is way too aggressive for me. This however sounds like a winner.

Yea a bit it has more forefoot cushion and lower drop so better suited for midfoot/forefoot strikers I presume
