  • In this week's vlog I took a quick trip to The Mall at Green Hills here in Nashville, Tn. which is full of luxury retail if that's your jam. Of course, I bought a few items on impulse. The biggest thing on my to-do list for the trip at the mall was to get some shoes stretched at Nordstrom because I was blessed with WIDE FEET. Me side eyeing GAWD. ;-\ LOL!
Also, I'm ranting about the Karen living next door to me, but I promise I am trying my best to live a life where I display kindness to everyone I meet. This has been my test and it's truly trying my patience and has me questioning how long I am expected to just pretend like this doesn't hurt...a whole neighbor that gives off racist vibes. You'll have yo share your thoughts, if any, with me on this.
All in all, I am truly glad to have my husband who grounds me in moments like these. He reminds me that they are NOT worth our positive energy if they continue to choose not to acknowledge us after we have tried repeatedly to display kindness. Michelle Obama said, "When they go low we go high!" However, this seems to be a new day where the lows are not accepted and shouldn't be at this point.
If you're new meet me in the comments to say hello.

This was a very interesting blog. The pole was a great idea, would you care to share where you purchased it? I was born in August too. I'm a persistent Leo. Although I'm in my 60's I can relate to some of your generational concerns. I have been living in my second home now for 25 years, I have a neighbor who has been living here longer than me. The husband-and-wife are white they have never once said hello, waved or even looked in my direction when I drive by. I have another white neighbor who is as friendly as can be. He brings me blackberries every year that he grows them. I do believe your neighbors are envious of your beautiful well-kept home, your well-behaved children, your hard-working husband. I wouldn't worry about it in the least. That is their problem. It's nice to be neighborly but only to the one that deserves it😊

I couldn’t agree with you more!
Thanks for sharing a bit of your story with me and letting me know I’m not alone in dealing with this.
Also, I’ve linked the curtains and the curtain pole that I purchased in the description box for your convenience.

Hey Ree, I hope you & the family are well- I'm a Leo too & have the same mentality about people that you do. I have always hated & never understood racism/any kind of prejudice, we are all equal & deserving of respect & equality whatever our race, gender or any other protected characteristic. I'm so sorry that you have this 'Karen' to deal with, it would take so much less energy for them to just be decent & I admire you for still trying to interact positively on some level with them. I was recently on a training course where the majority of the people in the room were black and I noticed that they seemed to prefer to stick together which I completely respected, but I made the effort to initiate conversation with them and asked questions about their lives in Africa/generally when they were talking about moving over to and living in the UK. By the end of the two weeks we were all chatting and I like to think that the people in the group felt more comfortable than they might have before, these things really shouldn't matter, but unfortunately they are still an issue. I swore as a teenager that if I ever encountered a racist person, I would make no bones about telling them what I thought of their behaviour & them and if it was someone I knew I might just not talk to them for a while when they came back from holiday with a tan just to make a point. Fortunately I have never had the reason to but there's still time 😉

Hey there! So good to hear from you. I certainly applaud your efforts in initiating conversation. I truly believe in this day and time people of color don’t know what to expect, so we navigate throughout spaces with our guard up. The world certainly needs more people like you who aren’t afraid to stand up against racism.

Yes I think it is ingrained in their spirit....I remember working in a rich senior community as a part time GNA and the racism within is so sad because most of the employees (underpaid) are black.

Make sure you have a door camera for your family's safety, him being a cop. I would just leave them alone, just a waste of your warm & kind energy. I listen to that same podcast, Karen has some good guest wth interesting perspectives. Btw, loving the bangs and ponytail.

Oh my. Your neighbor sounds like the one in the movie, Karen. That would drive me crazy. Most of the black people in our neighborhood are like that which I find strange. We wave, everyone else waves, but the black people will look the other way, with the exception of the guy on the corner. He's super friendly. My wife is a Leo and she's the same as you. I'm a Pisces and we definitely balance each other.

    • @REEstylesIT
      @REEstylesIT  Před 13 dny +1

Leos are ready to throw hands after a few too many times of being mistreated. You can imagine the struggle for me. But, like I said she will NOT have me miss H E A V E N! Imma try to extend kindness if she is willing to receive my loving spirit. However, until she’s ready I’m just ignoring them. Sadly, I don’t think they’ll change. We’ve been neighbors for a long time.
I haven’t watched the movie Karen. I think it would really infuriate me, but now you got me curious. So, I may watch. I believe that’s the movie with Cory Hardrict.

My sister-n-law is in the DMV and loves it there. My other sister-n-law is in Atlanta. Although, ATL is still the South each time we go we receive so much love and hospitality, it’s quite refreshing there.

Yes, that bracelet was David Yurman.
Those GG sneakers are crazy expensive, and quite an interesting trend.
My daughter said many of her classmates wear them. She told me she didn’t want them because she could just let some of her old shoes get really filthy and never clean them to achieve the same look for way less if she wanted to. However, right now she’s into the all white sneaker trend and prefers her shoes to be squeaky clean. She actually wipes down her shoes each day to keep them looking nice. LOL!!!

😭 All I can say in response to your experiences with racism is that I'm sorry!!!! I am white and grew up in the west with a predominantly white people population. I have always loved ALL people and the color of their skin doesn't matter.
I was devastated to learn as an adult how rampant racism STILL is! I was horrified to study, in school, the atrocities that happened to blacks (and other groups who were duscriminated against). I read ROOTS and felt as if I was suffering alongside my fellow men, women and children.
It was a harsh truth to realize that people haven't learned from the past! 😭
I DO try to show kindness and love to others. Since I've become more aware of what present day black people endure, I absolutely try to show added kindness and support so no one feels threatened in my presence.
My next door neighbors are Samoan and I try to be friendly with them, but they usually look away or dont interact. I hope they dont feel like I'm judgemental of them!
I'm glad your dad was cared for and that his health crisis resolved so well. Thank you for bringing up important points of discussion and sharing your life with me and others. I've learned so much.

Bridget, let me first say thanks for your kindness. 🤎
You know the saying one bad apple spoils the bunch, right? This is what I believe has become the mindset for many people of color when it comes to engaging with whites. Many of us are quite hesitant, and understably so.
However, I do know that there are many loving white people that do still exist. I teach our girls NOT to judge a book by its cover, but to believe what they see after a person reveals their true character.
