- Flathead Cove - Scuba Diving - Spearfishing Coves for Catfish - Lake Ouachita Arkansas
Spearfishing a Cove on Lake Ouachita. Fairly clear conditions under water.

Looks like a fun way to have a fish fry! Awesome seeing those flatheads up close in cover like that. Those younger ones blend in really well
It sure was. They really do blend in. I’m pretty sure I’ve swam right past several not seeing them. Lol.
I think I just found a future vacation destination. Diving down to the Adam Brown memorial and some spear fishing seems like a good time to me.
Im in wisco where we cant spear flats but i wish!!! Awesome video
Didn't know it was a thing you can spearfish for catfish in rivers and lakes. that's pretty neat!
I've always wondered what the average depth and water temperature is. Those look like some fun dives and nice catfish
Gig em ! That lakes flooded with enough fish for everyone to enjoy.
Nice video! I've been trying to get into spear fishing around the lake ouachita area, but don't have a boat. Any recommendations on where to go that you won't need one?
I started out swimming along banks and trying to find any type of structure that is holding fish. Finding structure, is the key. Hope this helps.
keep making these videos bro! They are AWESOME! Great content. And I love flathead fishing. I just bought some gear to do some free diving. Cheers!
Thanks Timothy! I’ll be making more next summer. To busy with other projects right now. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more next summer!
You certainly have a great eye. I'd miss seeing most of your finds! Happy 🦃 Thanksgiving!
Howdy!! Hey I am going to be coming from Wyoming to Arkansas to visit my father in law for Christmas, how is the water in December? I have a 7mm Cressi 2 piece spearo suit that I have used down to mid 40 degrees up here and been fine, is it colder than that? And how is vis? Can you still find fish? I free dive as well. Any help would be appreciated, I am only there for like 8 days and will probably only go out once for a day, but some catfish would be an awesome change of pace from the trout and small mouth bass I mostly get up here.
I haven't dove in the winter for a while. But your 7mm should be fine. I use a 7mm with hoodie before and I was quit comfortable. Not for sure about the spearfishing during the winter. There is an Arkansas Diving Facebook page you could join with more information. facebook.com/groups/138896611776/ Good luck.
Do you primarily just go for big ones ? Since you can like pick and choose sometimes if there’s multiple in a tree or hole?
Which ever one you choose. There is no slot limit on catfish.
I'm also wandering were you got that speargun it looks cool and easy to load.

Looks fun.
It's a blast...
You should try fishing for flatheads there.
I do.
What was the biggest one you caught?
Pole fishing 15lbs. Jugging 50lbs. My brother holds the Arkansas River State Record at 80lbs.
where did you get your speargun, I'd like to get one, and I'm from waverly,tn.Looking for legal states to spearfish for game fish

Did u make the gun
what is a good spear gun to start with
I like the Mares Sten Speargun for the lakes. I love mine. www.amazon.com/Mares-Speargun-Scuba-Diving-Spearfishing/dp/B000VLXKC8/ref=sr_1_58_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=speargun&qid=1593302171&sr=8-58-spons&psc=1&smid=A3OB2WAK59ZSPC&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzMEUxMFZQM0NIRk5MJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjkzODMzMzk3VkVCTDZEWjI0MyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNzkyNTM3M0tXS1NXSkxZVktFTSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2J0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
great dishing, really need to work on getting a chest mount for your gopro
Why would I need to work on getting a chest mount for my GoPro? I already own three of them. I don't nor does anybody else use them since you swim horizontally through the water. The only footage you would get would be of the ground. You don't scuba dive, do you?
@@arkansaslakediver you got him lmao
I dive n shoot blues and flatheads here in Louisiana . I’d love to come up there n try it!
You'd have a blast. Flathead spearfishing season opens here in Arkansas mid July.
Are they all deep ? We usually freedive from 6-15 ft
That’s good depth. They’re above thermocline. 10-20 feet. Just find structure. They’re usually sitting on it chillin’. Lol.
Awesome . Here they all stay either under huge cypress logs or in old cypress stumps . Usually shoot a lot of fish between 8-15 lbs sometimes we get on some around 20-30 have killed em up to 50
Nice. Lake Ouachita is a good lake spear fish. It's decently clear most of the time.
What spear gun is that you're using?
In this video I'm using the Mares MiniMini Sten. Nice little spear gun, doesn't take up much space and packs a wallop
Is the main reason for going with the mini because you are shooting on bottom so much? wow spearing Flatheads looks like a good time might have to make a trip down! We pretty much only shoot walleyes but out vis on a good day is maybe 5 ft
@@teoutdoors7809 The reason I like the mini is it's small and compact. Easy to carry through trees and shrubs underwater, and cocking it is a breeze also. There is walleyes in Ouachita. Out on points, right below thermocline.
Cool video. But those fish are small.
They sure were good eating. The bigger ones aren't as tasty. If they were any bigger, I’d be getting complaints from people like you that I was robbing the fish gene pool by keeping the big ones. Lol.
Yee yee brother
I plan on going back 3 sisters and spear fishinh don't have a boat and also dont have a dive partner that will dive in the winter anyone down
What kind of spear gun is that

I mean ... those are the smallest yellacat I've ever seen. Some of those would have been really small channel. No limit in ourkansaw I guess ? Having read a few of the owners comments.... I must go look at his salt water spearos ! By his banter im guessing he's a full on badass. But im almost surely wrong. Had to add this thought before I go see.
Have you seen a real monster catfish
as long as youre eating them and not wasting them i see no issue, people need to get over themselves.
Yep, they are invasive in some places anyways.
Although I do not agreed with spearfishing or bowfishing for catfish.....I respect it if its legal....sweet video anyway
Everybody's got an opinion. Thanks for watching!
@@arkansaslakediver No problem man keep doing what you're doing if it's legal it was a cool video
It's definitely legal in Arkansas. Spear season here opens back up in June 15 and flat head season opens up July 15. I'm definitely posting lots and lots more spear fishing videos just to get a rile out of folks who are none spearfishing folks. LOL It's hilarious.
@@arkansaslakediver I support any type of legal fishing man....good luck this season
Do you Arkansas!! Anyone in my opinion ( atleast 99%) who spend loads on dive gear ,spear guns ,boats , different dive certificate and tag or permit and has their own line on promotion print tees and then post their vids for entire world would see ya think they would def check to make sure they met their local and states legalities way back when the idea became into action lol..go gettym brother we want more footage!!
Really? That’s one reason why they don’t get very big no more. Because of people like you getting them at 5 lbs and keeping them. It’s a great thing in Mississippi that we have size limits on tabby cats
Yes, really. None of the fish I caught in this video were 5 pounds. I don't know what you are talking about? It's funny how on every spear fishing video folks post, the know it all experts come out with their comments. Because of people like you taking only the big ones, you’re depleting the gene pool of the big ones genes. It’s a great thing Mississippi ain’t got nothing to do with Arkansas. My suggestion since you seem to not be able to catch any "big ones", you need to hire you a profession fishing guide to teach you how to fish. Have a great day! The cats were good eatin'.
Oh your dumb he’s in a lake you how many more there is and plus the smaller they are the better cat fish taste when there big they taste like mud he got the small ones for a reason🤦
