Josh, you should do some vocal tutorials. You're seriously one of if not my favorite scream vocalist.
Drummer here, but this was the first song I learned from Sylosis. Somehow CZcams thought I'd enjoy a drum cam video from a drummer named Ali Richardson and this was the song. Loved this band ever since.
your tone is the best thing ive ever heard
One of my favorite songs for working out, the riff at 6:50 really pumps you up. Thanks for the lesson, Josh, keep ´em coming!
Thanks Josh! I have a request: Can you make a video "how to play standing" or something like that. I really struggle playing stand. Thanks!
pastilance1 same^^^
pastilance1 There's no lessons for playing standing, you just have to play standing! You just got to get comfortable while doing it and find a good guitar height/strap length. Practice practice practice.
pastilance1 Make sure your strap is at a length where your guitar is in the same position as it is when you're sitting.
It's gonna be a little high and people will say it "looks cooler to have it lower", but I've found that as I'm playing more difficult music (stuff like Sylosis) I always keep raising my guitar. It honestly doesn't look that "uncool".
Other than that, once you get comfortable with a song, just practice it standing up.
Dem riffs are absolutely crazy!
A fucking beast on the guitar. Can't wait to see you guys again at FortaRock!!
Been waiting for that, many thanks!
I love this song, thanks for the lesson, Josh!
"Quiescent", Josh! And thank you for your tutorials in general. Really, really helpful! :)
Fixed bridge ftw just bought a washburn bt-2 today been playing the shit out of it.the pre chorus riff to empyreal was one of the first things that came to mind.
Thank you so much, I love this song. I shall be practicing it a lot. See you at DL!
Awesome ! :) Could you do a vid for the river ? It could be cool to have more of the older stuff :p
Yeah id love to see some lessons for some older stuff :P
Hey Josh. Could you do a video about tips for playing and singing at the same time? That would be cool
Thanks so much, Josh.
Please do a tutorial on Quiescent next, it's such a beautiful song.
Awesome lessons man
Atleast one of the top 25 in world josh you're unbelievable at guitar great riffs
Hey man, just want to say you're a very big influence upon my guitar playing and I want to get vocal coaching but I would definitely like to have your vocal type, I remember several months ago I first looked at the grasspop show from last year and the opening song was dormant heart and man that song is absolutely amazing, as well as servitude and callous souls, but i also looked at conclusion of an age and the guitars are FLAWLESS, you guys are definitely going to be the next big thrash band. Hopefully I'll see you guys soon but I hope I become like you someday, you're an amazing musician. Cheers man :-)
guitar sounds awesome for a maple neck-thru
Could you do a tutorial for Quiescent?
Please can you do a "Blind Desperation" tutorial please! That song is fucking unbelievable.
Drend QUOTE
Callous Souls tutorial please!! :')
Josh, what is your favorite Pantera riff? Because you seem like a big Pantera fan.
can you please do a tutorial on barenaked ladies one little slip there is not 1 tutorial on CZcams if you could help that would be great
How's this guitar compare the ya eclipse ? I'm interested in one
Any tips on hitting that 3rd fret, hammer on 7th, pull off 7th back to 3rd lick? My hands just aren't making the stretch yet.
try turning your hand towards the guitar body a little bit, that will give you some more space to cover with your pinky
Tone review pls 🙏
Is the riff at 6.50 entirely alternate picked?
Fuck I think I did it the wrong way which explains why it does not work out :D
What model of guitar is this?
How does he make it sound so heavy and low sounding? Fuck i want to really achieve this tone! Haha
Hey Josh, is it possible for you to do a guitar/vocal coordination tutorial? I think it would be helpful especially for those of us out there having difficulty finding a vocalist for our band, would rather just bite the bullet and do it ourselves instead.
Tedst3r From experience, you have to know the guitar part without thinking, and focus on when the vocals come in, that is how I do it anyways. The guitar is almost subconcious.
That is also the reason I dropped from doing both vocals and guitar because it Prefer just playing guitar haha
TriviumAnterior Huh, I guess it's one of those things where you need to practice both parts a lot. But I wonder if there's another way to go about it, especially seeing how technical Josh's parts are.
Tedst3r Always practice separately until it is second nature, then and only then, do you bring them together :).
And yes Josh s a beast, it is ridiculous what riffs he plays while also doing vocals hahahahahaha
Yeah, I'll give that a shot for now.
What a legend.
+Tedst3r Late reply, but the other guy is right, I've been a vocalist/guitar playing frontman for a while now and the best way to do it is to just a have a complete mastery of both parts separately in order to put all the puzzle pieces together. It's hard and it takes twice as much practice but it is worth it in my opinion. Other than that there's no real secret to it, just endless amounts of practice and persistence. Hope it helps, good luck with your band!
is it me or is his guitar tuned a little lower than e standard?
tunning?
Tuning?
After lifeless years please.. 🙏
What tuning is this?
Probably drop D
tuning?
+Jonathan Jansson E Standard
Anyone else hear a little Radiohead influence in there for the chorus riff?
You missed a bit in the thrashy bit :(
It's a shame too how lots of people don't like death metal too much which hides a band as musically genius and heavy like this where it doesn't get it's full credit
Josh, you should really try a 7 string guitar
It would still be on standard but would make you stop to use this tricks to sound more heavy...
Just a thought
Great video man, keep it coming
