- The US supreme court has ruled that former presidents are entitled to some degree of immunity from criminal prosecution, a victory for Donald Trump that erodes the 2020 election subversion case against him and any prospect of a trial before November.
The court’s MAGA majority found 6-3 that presidents were protected from prosecution for official actions that extended to the “outer perimeter” of his office, but could face charges for unofficial conduct.

The SC justices are not removed by the President but by the legislative branch (House and Senate). It is not a Presidential job function.

Make an executive order no felons can hold office, get Thomas and Elito off the court. Biden can do it because he will be immune as this is an official act.
The criteria for the presidency is outlined in the Constitution, and therefore requires a constitutional amendment. It is not a presidential official job function.

Dems have continued following norms while the other side no longer even follows laws. Can't win being fair against fascism.

The supreme court just declaring trump president is a very real and scary concern. I am upset democrats did not tackle the issues of filibuster, gerrymandering and changes to the supreme court years ago when they were often in control of both houses. They really failed us.

There were calls to end the electoral college, gerrymandering and the filibuster way back then and it was ignored. At the time I was told the dems don't want to change those things because they wanted to have these tools available for themselves.

First generation immigrant. Came here as a student and decided to apply for residency after graduate school.
Stayed up all night waiting for SCOTUS immunity decision. This is the first time I could not hold back tears over a SCOTUS decision. Been crying all day. The reversal of Chevron last Friday, watching Biden's painful struggles through the debate and the shameful pile on by the liberal media and pundits, it feels like the institutions we have always trusted in - and the very fiber of our society - are unraveling.
The only way to fight back is to vote in numbers so overwhelming that Mike Johnson and MAGA Republicans cannot dispute and install Trump. We must have the presidency, the House and the Senate in filibuster-proof majority so that SCOTUS can be expanded and pass laws to undo what SCOTUS has done this term. And codify Roe v. Wade. We no longer have SCOTUS to protect us.
I am so disheartened. Heartbroken and distressed at what's happening to this country that - as a young student alone in the world - I CHOSE as my home. We must put our faith in the decency of the more than half of Americans who love this country and our way of life.
I am terrified.

The nature of Presidential power entitles a former President to absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for actions within his conclusive and preclusive constitutional authority; he is also entitled to at least presumptive immunity from prosecution for all his official acts; there is no immunity for unofficial acts.
@@Diane-sx4ql I wondered that myself. Many people said they would not vote for him if he were convicted. We can almost see all the pending cases will go away and I would not be surprised if somehow Judge Merchan's case will be reversed. Giving Trump NO convictions. Will that make those people to switch back to Trump even though all these convictions were "fixed" by scotus.
@@Diane-sx4ql I think Trump will try to cheat and lie if he loses like in 2020 but I'm confident Biden can do a repeat of 2020 He need's to reach 270 electoral votes across 50 states and with the loss of human rights for women. His achievements in his first term, student loan forgiveness, union support for workers, infrastructure and energy investment. and Trumps authoritarian rhetoric that alienates voters outside the maga base. I think the 270 goal is achievable for the Biden Campaign in the last 100 days leading up to the election. We still have the Obi Juan Merchan sentencing on July 11th 340million americans can't all be crazy right. I have faith.
