    Hello all you wonderful people and a very Happy Birthday to Mr Jimmy Page!
    Welcome to 2022; I hope you managed to get some quality time in with family and friends over the past few weeks.
    Today we learn how to play Achilles Last Stand by Led Zeppelin.
    The song is a masterpiece; a giant one at that... so I decided to cover what I consider to be "main parts" that are integral to the song form. Basically all the good stuff. If you need any more help or are curious of the rhythm and secondary harmony lines it's in the Tab on Patreon.
    Have fun.

    This song was recorded in the Musicland Studio in Munich/ Germany. Owner was Giorgio Moroder and the sound engineer the extraordinary Mack. The Album Presence was recorded in threes day. Three days Mick Jagger was surprised afte he hear this. Who can this do?? Only Led Zeppelin!

    This song is a beast but your lesson made it playable, even the solo!
    Back in my "I can't play guitar well enough so I'm going to play bass" phase, I decided the whole Presence album was going to be my bass lesson. When I could play it all straight through - finger style - without mistakes, I figured I'd have enough chops to learn other material on bass and feel like a legit bass player. That time probably seared the melodies from this song into my head, which made things a bit easier learning a solo I never imagined being able to play.

    • @SpedSpedding
      @SpedSpedding  Před 9 měsíci +2

      So glad you finally got it! I think this might be Page’s masterpiece, it’s laced with genius riffs, licks and angular rhythms. Some of his best work.
      The solo is inventive and expressive. I could listen to it on repeat.

    Absolutely the best Zeppelin teacher. I was 14 and this song struck me like a thunder. I was mesmerized to the epicness of it. Who would have thought that 30 years later a funny cute English lad would lead me through the stairway to heaven solo and these days I'm with him in the dark woods battling with guitar in hand these amazing riffs and solos that are burnt into my soul. Really, thank you Sped. you changed my life.

    Thanks again Sped. I’ve been working my way though a number of these Zep songs. Some of them I hold off, waiting until I’m up to the task. I’ve recently taken on this epic song. I’ve got the huge “official” Zeppelin tab book and it is super helpful. But sometimes even when the notes are right in the tab, where you play them makes more sense. That and what you’re playing for the “fiddly” bits at the end makes more sense and I really appreciate what you’ve done here. So, thanks again and keep up the good work!

    This lesson brings out the genius of each guitar part and puts it on crystal clear display. Those fast rhythmic fills are as tricky as they sound but I can finally see/hear what's going on. Likewise, every lick of the solo is memorable, melodic and pristinely transcribed so it just feels right under your fingers. This lesson itself is a work of art, thanks so much man!

    Wow great work Sped!!! Despite having the tabs to this song from the June 1998 Guitar World magazine, those fast galloping licks after the solo have always baffled me. Thank you so much for the tutorial, seeing someone actually playing this really helps. I wish CZcams was around 30 plus years ago when I was starting out learning guitar.

      For me, there are only a small handful of guitar instruction channels that I watch, and Sped is at the top, among the few others, depending on style, direction etc;..The key with using CZcams is to not get overwhelmed by ALL the 100's of music channels..I'm sure you'll agree.

Maybe JP was reacting to punk at the time but it all seemed a bit noisy, repetitive and tuneless to me. BUT, having watched your video, I’m beginning to see the intricate construction of the guitar parts and how JP and Bonham are playing together in a truly mighty way.
