Hi Richard, your layout is coming along nicely. The bridge over the heritage line will fit in nicely there if you can crack it. On another note, you asked me to keep you informed on my grandson's 009 layout (he's12). Well, all being well, he's coming to stay with us for a few days next weekend and is planning to make a start on it. So, at some point, there will be a video on his Dylington Model Railway channel and probably photos of it on his community page. Have you seen the stop-motion animation he's been doing on his recent videos. He's done quite a good job of it, moving vehicles and figures along with the trains. He's even done a Dukes of Hazzard video. Looking forward to your next update...cheers James 🙂👍

Just came back from a short absence of watching your vids. I really like what you did with the fence and T-poles. That "NEW JUNCTION" car is fantastic! They did a superb job for you.
What drove me a bit nutty was seeing that "B1" loco pulling coaches backward. Is that common in the UK?? The only reason it is done in the USA is due to the lack of a "wye" or some other turn around. Many of the tourist line short railroads do it because they only have one track in use. With the steam unit backwards, all the smoke and soot from the stack moves closer to the carriages instead of up & over them.
Good Luck on future endeavors and enjoy!

My understanding of British land ownership is that the railway needs to own the land that it regrades, and it would then fence off its land. So, the embankment down from the heritage line to the road would be owned by the railway, and it would be appropriate for the fence to be placed along the roadside.

Hello Richard. I've been following your journey with interest. Your creation is a thing of technical beauty! I have an observation/question: on most exhibition/YT layouts, the addition of OHLE gets in the way of the sight lines, reducing the visual impact for the viewer. How will you counter this, or do you see it as an inevitable consequence of modelling a modern, electrified line?

  • @jonahspiper
    @jonahspiper Před měsícem

Where do you find the time for it all! I also cant wait to get hold of that new catenery, need the first MK1 version for 80s WCML, looks superb.
For weathering the ballast in the yard, I use a very, very weak solution of poster paint, the mucky water from washing your brushes, plus a few blobs for oil where needed and let it run a bit, looks very real for sidings etc. if concentrated where needed. I also use sand for ballast, not the stuff from the builders merchant but real stuff off the beach. Once sieved I reckon it looks better than bought ballast as its already weathered! I do live on a beach though which helps..😀

First of all the biomass wagons from Accurascale are IIA wagons, I have all 4 packs totalling 8 wagons altogether and to be fair I do like them, I just don’t use mine as much right now because I don’t have a layout setup yet, those OHLE from west hill do look quite good, already seen a video of those by Dave at Dean Park and OHLE is something I would like to look at at some point in the future, quite nice sound on the B1, I myself have just started out with sound fitting a a sound decoder to my Bachmann Class 158 in Northern Livery and I have to say I am enjoying the sound, I use to not be for it but it’s something I’m definitely going to look at. Fitting to more of my locomotives, some overall good work done here, keep it up.

2 things about the road bridge over the heritage line. Try air drying modelling clay like DAS, £4 at The Works, give the card a prime of PVA and get rolled out clay on while PVA is still damp. You can roll sheets of clay in advance. You can work the clay either before it’s dried or after. Pop bridge in a plastic bag/box and seal if you want to stop it drying out. This method doesn’t distort card and it doesn’t shrink like plaster can. Point 2; as a cyclist I hate you for the severity of the ramp! My knees are aching looking at it! 🤣

I wonder what the name of the local model shop is?! Dividing fence on the heritage line would be prototypical at the bottom of the embankment rather than the top as that land would belong to the railway and that would be there boundary line so all good there to run it at road level rather than rail level :)

The "tanks" are LRV's, in the Scimitar range of vehicles.

I am sure you know, but in case any viewers don't, when it comes to fencing that protects the railway, the general rule of thumb is that you will find it at the bottom of embankments and along the top of cuttings.

    GRAFITTI
Why on earth modellers are modelling Grafitti on freight trains or on trackside 'furniture' beggars belief.......?
It is the greatest assault on our environment and culture, and there is no reason for it to be modelled at all.

I imagine it’s because he’s trying to represent real life. Ignoring graffiti on a model representation isn’t going to eradicate Graffiti in real life any more than it encourages it.
And to counter your culture argument, one of the most culturally influential artists of the modern era, who’s work is very sought after and often valued in the hundreds of thousands if not millions of pounds is an anonymous person known as Banksy. A graffiti artist.
Like it or loath it, graffiti is here to stay, so it’ll get represented in model form as a reflection of reality.

      Oh Dear.....
Someone who thinks graffiti is 'real life's rather than the blot that it is.
Modelling it is a clear acceptance that it is alright, which is pretty pathetic really. We should be recognising that it is an unwelcome imposition on all of us by a number of stupid people, intent on despoiling and defacing things, because they think they have the right to do so.
....and yes, modelling it will encourage more of it. We have only to see the increase in modelling it, (mainly because one supplier is promoting it), to know this.
It's like the authorities not removing it the moment it occurs. More of it appears.
