  • A voyage on the wool trade square-rigged clipper ship "Salamis". The model was built by David Edwards, you can find photos and movies of this and other boat models on the Solent Radio Controlled Model Boat Club web site ( www.srcmbc.org.uk ). Filmed at Setley Pond in the New Forest, southern England, home of the Solent Radio Controlled Model Boat Club.

    Hi, there is no auxiliary engine, the model is propelled by sail alone. Models like this need extra stability added because the wind is much stronger than it would be for the real ship. Therefore a fin with a lead bulb is attached to the model hull when it is sailed on the pond. This added fin is about 1.5 times the depth from the water line to the bottom of the hull (which you can just about see at the start of the movie).

    has an auxiliary engine?
    or propulsion is only sailing?
    under the hull there is a fin? if there is, how long is it?
