    When I was a kid, our nanny -- Tinni -- used to make this and in the winter, she added a little golden rum. I remember pretending to be sick so I could stay home from school just before Christmas break so I could drink more and so I could watch *Regis & Kathie Lee* with her. 😂😉

      @@editz8663 wtf does being boomer have to do with cultural cuisine? Lol.
      I'm a millennial in my 20s and I grew up drinking atole. Its something to be very proud of. If ur some Gen z kid who thumbs ur nose at ur grandparents recipes I gotta tell u ur gonna have a shitty adulthood. Ur gonna be eating hot pockets and chicken nuggets the rest of ur life like my little cousin. She thinks she's too good for mexican food like you, and all she eats are noodles and fucking Mac n cheese. Real winner that one.
      Ur gonna be 40 one day and ur kids are gonna resent u and not want to eat at home and be visiting their friends house every night because u can't do much more than order a pizza for dinner.
      If anything the boomers are the ones u have more in common with here because the boomers were the ones who sold out their customs and traditions to be yuppies just like u little Gen z brats.
      Real Chicano and hispanos love this kinda stuff. Our culture starts here, in the kitchen. If u don't value it that's ur problem but don't u dare ever mock people who do. Zoomer

    • @juanmccoy3066
      @juanmccoy3066 Před 2 lety

      @@dragonsfireicegaming it doesn't. The boomers didn't invent it, it's been part of our heritage for several generations. Hes just a spoiled little Gen z hipster fuck boy that doesn't know anything about his culture and his heritage.
      When they begin associating our cultural traditions with this "boomer" stuff they run into trouble because they will grow up resembling bland and generic yuppies with no culture. Have nothing to pass on to their children.
      U gotta blame the parents for that one. I'm very proud to have inherited my grandparents recipes. Learning tortillas and atole and caldos and chilis
      I have a cousin like that. She only eats noodles and chicken mcnuggets and shit like that. Ya know, Ramen noodles and Mac n cheese. Nobody failed her. We all eat our Mexican food regularly. We speak in Spanish and spanglish in the home. My grandparents were always making Christmas and Easter dinners. The whole 9 yards.
      But she thumbed her nose at it. She thought it was lame and stupid and now she's like 24 and to me she might as well be an anglo from New Hampshire because she has no culture. She laughs at our meals. She thinks she's too good for the way we live and the way we speak. She's begun criticizing our religious views despite never being forced into them and her making a big deal about them before and using it to show off now she wants to call it stupid because she thinks she's more intelligent cuz her college teachers are Marxists. Were just a bunch of dumb spicks as far as she's concerned.
      I see this in a lot of her friends and a lot of people in our age group. They have no interest in maintaining our culture.and when they grow up they will have spoiled shitty little kids who are even worse than they are. They will have no sense of culture or pride. Or try to suddenly dig up their roots when they have a mid life crisis and realize no one wants anything to do with them.

The reason this is such a big deal to me is that I’ve been making oatmeal in an almost similar way but not to eat the oatmeal but the drink the delicious thick consistency milk that’s a result of the oatmeal. Why didn’t I think about doing it this way before? Idk. But this will surely be a new favorite recipe of mine. You’re the best 😘

    In New Mexico this is common too. U can make it sweet or salty. My grandma would make it lumpy with sugar and ud get these sweet sugar lumps in the middle that were amazing.
    I hadn't had it since I was a kid. She didn't use oats tho she used pure atole.it was almost like grits more than it was like oatmeal.
    The new mexican cook book I have describes it as a gruel actually.
    She did use the Evap milk. Evap milk is great for things like this. Natillas, atole and rice pudding all do very well with evap milk.
    It's also good to put in carnitas when ur making chicharonnes
