      But, from reading the books, you clearly see Artyom "transiting" through following his "idol"/badass steps or having a major figure of maturing/spirituality/ascension, that is Khan.
      From the game, you can see the dark ones time and time again, showing memories of a bright time and monologuing a possibility of peace. - "Even a kid hated by his parents, do his best to tolerate and understand them" (paraphrasing).
      In the end, the karma choices or "non cunt actions" ("cunt, being, shooting a shrine of worship) --- rewards you with not expending medikits and ammo in pointless combats, like, shooting your visions or the things you don't know/understand --- and shows that Khan's philosophies and points of view are valid to a great extense in a world that humanity got reduced to animals living in the tunnels, that is, if they don't forfeit what made them great in >1900 years before the nuclear doom; charity, respecting art, music and good deeds are likely to continue existing, as long as there's enough people to integrate a community... at least, that's what some people believe.

      I mean the way I see it is artyom doesn’t find out the true intentions of the dark ones till last light. See that the were solely trying to help humans and be able to communicate with them. A side effect of the telepathic communication was delusions and death for most people excluding artyom.

    • @DatGamingKid1
      @DatGamingKid1 Před 3 lety +66

      The dark ones were trying to communicate with humans, they weren't actually trying to kill people. Artyom was unique because he was able to speak to them, thus being able to act as a bridge between mankind and the dark ones. I think the dark ones violence comes from their lack of understanding of humans and their short lifetime existence, they are more or less children. The game doesn't do a great job at showing this as opposed to the book.

      Hold up, Throughout the whole game the dark ones have been putting your live at risk, to your first vision to your last one. The only time the Dark ones actually helped you was when you were with Bourbon and you had that vision together. Every other time you life is at risk, and lets also not forget the whole reason why you went on this adventure to begin with, They are attacking your home town son. Now because of that one that did help you out by pulling you out of a dark one vision, so we cant say all of them are hostile but their global decision is hostile. Now if you didn't blow them up, your home tower is still dead just like what happened in the cursed station, remember how they gave you a vision and everyone a strong push to the wall and kill some people with that first push, and then they pushed everyone in that wall again. These are not peaceful beings and yes I'm aware that humans are not peaceful beings but they were the ones who instigated violence's first. The good ending is killing them, the evil ending is letting them live so they can kill off everyone.

I realized what hypocrisy it was to let them live while they themselves started the whole damn thing by slaughtering our people in unprovoked attacks. So I went back just to spite them and chose differently; I killed off the Dark Ones with absolutely no remorse whatsoever. The whole plot was that we needed help to defend ourselves from the Dark Ones as THEY were attacking our station. And then they had the balls to try to guilt-trip us into both feeling sorry for them and feeling ashamed of our own actions. "We want peace".. bullshit. Tell that to the good guards and people of the stations you killed. "Bad ending"? Pah! I'd call it the genuine "you reap what you sew, bitches"-ending. These fuckers have done nothing but try to kill me and successfully kill almost everyone who I met that helped me out on my journey. And left everyone else living in constant fear often wiping out entire communities that are forced to live underground. In the dream sequences you literally fail the level if you walk towards them to try and hear them out. Nothing about them in the entire game suggests that they possess sympathy or empathy in any capacity. For all I know, their cries of "we want peace" could just be an evil trick to stop us killing them before they go back to doing everything they were doing to us the entire game.
    Maybe I just missed something, it has been a while since I played this game and, frankly, I had absolutely no idea that an alternate ending even existed for this game as nothing within the game actually suggests that there is. According to the book, the mental damage they did to the humans was kind of a secondary effect of them trying to get in touch with humans (the darkones used telepathic communication but most humans just were not psycho/fisiology adapted to this kind of stuff). Its supposed that when they found artyom when child, they noticw he could actually understand them. Many years later (time of the game) Artyom doesnt remember it, but the D. looking through the comments and it's like people haven't actually understood the whole point of the "good" ending. yeah, it seems kind of dumb for Artyom to simply go "hey, actually, I don't wanna do this" and stop the bombing but.. if you actually hear the Dark Ones, if you read up on the lore/wiki, they don't look like too much of the bad guys. the game makes you look at them as the bad guys because you have practically no context when you first play through it. "7'0 monsters killing people without even touching them" sounds terrifying, and of course it's going to make them look bad. that's probably what the regular people in the Metro thought. of course they're gonna fear them, they can't exactly understand them like Artyom does. the Dark Ones are trying to communicate with people but- to put it in extremely simple ways- their mind can't understand it and makes them go mad. if you approach the Dark Ones in the visions, you understand them, and they quite clearly state that "they mean no harm,". if you do that twice, in Ostankino Tower you can hear them say "..he can hear us.. he can understand us." and "why? / why is he here?" (i think, i haven't finished 2033 in a while).. Khan is probably the most understanding of the Dark Ones. indirectly, his "Wicked phenomenon, yes? But, you know, it’s not any more "evil" than, say… fire. It all depends on your point of view. Try to get a better understanding of things before you make your judgement. Let's move out now, it's not safe here." is first referring to the electrical anomaly, but it's also heard in the Black Station level, if you approach the Dark Ones. "It all depends on your point of view. Try to get a better understanding of things before you make your judgement." is a pretty important part here. and "You reap what you sow, Artyom. Force answers force, war breeds war, and death only brings death. To break this vicious circle one must do more than just act without any thought or doubt." is ALSO *very* important. these all make sense if you think of them talking about the Dark Ones. how come you see visions of children in a playground, sounds of regular everyday life, and views of leaves flowing in a tree? they want nothing but peace with humanity, but people can't understand it, seeing them as 'the threat'. it's their presence and psychic influence that drove them mad, but it's not exactly their fault. do you remember when Alex went on his speech about them being "the next step in evolution" and called them "Homo Novus"? yeah, that literally means "New Man". wouldn't it be understandable if the reason people are driven insane by their simple act of trying to establish peace with humanity is just because they're TOO EVOLVED? of course! that's probably it.

I heard there was 2 endings so I tried to be pacifist and giving n all, but at the end they're trying to kill me, had I known I had a choice I would of ended it the same way. In the end if you don't run away from them/shoot them, then they walk you off a ledge. Why not just tell me "hey listen we'd really appreciate if you didn't nuke the shit out of us, sorry us and humanity got off on the wrong foot but really we're here to help. We'll fuck off and quit accidentally making people crazy because you've proven humans can be good." They coulda just talked it out, told me what they wanted, but instead they try to kill me to stop me. So if killing them makes me bad, then they're just as bad. Also, you're one of the very few people that can stop them, and this is your one and only chance to do so. If they are lying about peace, which I think they are, then that's the end of humanity.

      You have to understand that A LOT of players (myself included) thought "Dark Ones" was referring to the mutants (demons, nosalises, librarians, etc).
      I played through the entirety of Metro 2033 with this misunderstanding. So when the option was there to nuke them, of course I did. Because I didn't actually know what the hell a Dark One was. Heck for half of my playthrough, I assumed Dark One = Black Nosalises. Because they're dark, get it? The game never really communicated to the player what a dark one looked like. We can only guess. In fact, I never even saw a single Dark One in my entire playthrough of 2033. Yes, there were visions, but I just took it as my character being psychic or something. And that led me to all the wrong conclusions. We completely misunderstood and misinterpreted the entire story.
      And then at the end of the game, I assumed Dark Ones referred to the collective hive mind of the mutants! So I thought if I nuked them, poof! No more mutants! Which left me super confused in Metro Last light, where I saw nosalises swarm me in the first chapter.

      The thing is, the first ever encounter between them and human is when Artyom was a child, 5 years old iirc. Somehow Artyom minds doesn't go crazy when the dark ones communicate with them, maybe that's why they try going into the metro just trying to communicate with humans but unfortunately they trying to communicate makes people minds go crazy, so humans determine the dark ones as a hostile. After that everytime humans see the dark ones they shoot them immediately, making the dark ones attacks human consciously at that time.

      If the Dark Ones don't have mind control they can't do shit, if they have they are a danger to us as free will is the greatest gift of humanity despite the existence of evil, and they could also use it for evil purposes, like well, making us commit s******, like for example they do with Artyom if he goes towards them in the ending hallucinations.
      If they were so smart and good that they could fix us eventually they'd realize that almost all humans are negatively affected by their mere proximity, so they could just learn a thing or two from librarians, isolate themselves and both of us go our own way without bothering the other
      I haven't read the books or played the other games, so that's my mistake and they probably explain it well, but 2033 at least does a very bad job at portraying the good nature of the Dark Ones

If they're somewhat on par then it just becomes a war for survival at its best, the issue is touching but the form it's delivered in is beyond shitty. The story is just disappointing, there's a sprinkle of everything but no depth or enough tools to have an educated opinion. Even with the Nazis, there's literally no reason to kill them other than the fact you associate Nazis = bad people, I just killed everyone who was fighting the war as a neutral judge. Disclaimer everyone that Gamer Max Channel didn't say: This is the original metro not the redux. On redux you don't have the option of choosing between the endings. The redux version is the remastered of 2033 and they probably did it because spoiler kinda, the last light starts like that. The game tells you that you did kill the dark ones. Since they made a sequel (Metro last light) they made it like that so it makes sense. If you play the original one you have the option.

In the ending where Artyom has to go through the mental maze, they could have made the overheard monologue explain Artyom/us how they are trying to help and not kill us.
