    HOST FAMILY
LIVE WITH A GENUINE JAPANESE FAMILY
Living with a Japanese family is as close as you can get to Japanese family life, obviously. If you want to learn and adapt yourself to Japanese social rules from day one, living in a host family can be a great experience.
    GREAT EXPERIENCE VALUE
Being under the same roof as Japanese people will make you have to practice and use your Japanese every single day, which could help you learn speaking and listening faster A family can also help you get to know the neighborhood and city, in ways you may not have been able to discover by yourself. And again, having the convenience of getting a cooked meal twice a day is quite a sweet deal.
    LIVING COST
When you move in with a host family, you usually pay a smaller management fee and then a flat fee per month which includes your room in the family's house, your usage of utilities (electricity, gas, water & internet) and two cooked meals per day: breakfast and dinner. Committing to stay longer than 3 months will give you a lower monthly fee, while short stays cost more per month.
    COMMON RULES
Living with a host family may come with a couple of rules. Sometimes (doesn't apply to all host families, but some), families live a bit outside of the city, which can mean 1 hour or more commuting time to get to school. Also, generally you need to be home for dinner each night and some families have a curfew rule alter 10PM in the evening. If you want to bring home friends, you may need permission first.
    1
    YOU LET US KNOW
About one month before you are scheduled to head for Japan, we'll email you a questionnaire where you get to tell us which type of accommodation you're most interested in, an average of what you're able to pay in rent, and the most imporant features of the accommodation.
    2
    WE START LOOKING
After you've sent us back the questionnaire, we'll go out and search among the several landlords we partner with, to find you something that fit your needs as closely as possible. All landlords that we partner with are people that we have met and communicate with regularly.
    3
    YOU GET THE DETAILS
After we find something that we think will work for you, we'll present you the accommodation with pictures, monthly rate and other details. If it appeals to you, we'll setup the contact with the landlord and help you reserve your place! If it doesn't, we'll repeat step 2.

Go! Go! Nihon Live & Study in Japan Hi! I would like to ask if I need to pay daily for my homestay expenses or is it a month pay?? Thank you

I'm heartened to see an older gentleman choosing home study. I was thinking I was too old, or that the family might be creeped out if a mid-thirties guy like me chooses to do homestudy. (I've already submitted my application through Go!Go! and am patiently waiting to hear back from the school in Nagano [crossing fingers].) This video makes me want to actually consider giving it a shot!) :)

I always though that loving with a host family would be much better, just because you can get help from home to learn Japanese.
That is what I'm gonna pick.

From a Japanese language/culture learning point of view, it is surely the best choice!

This is very sweet. I went to Japan last year from US and stayed for a year.. but I don't need to stay with a host family.. I have a blood-related Japanese family myself.. it seems like a good opportunity to take up though! 😊
