  • **NOTE** I forgot to mention installing the guide rail pin. Seal the end with RTV silicone and hammer it back into the cylinder head. Do it before you install the top guide rail.
    In this video I cover everything that is camshaft related. Installing the lifters, installing the camshafts, installing the sprockets, timing the camshafts, resetting the chain tensioner and verifying the camshaft timing.

    when I put the intake camshaft on, it doesn't fit perfectly into the heads and touches the pushers... is it supposed to be like that?

    This is a great video, really useful. My only query is when you install the intake cam and align to 30° past tdc how to you measure that? I am putting my cylinder head back on after a rebuild and I just don't know how to work that bit out. I get it on the crank there's markings but not on the cam sprocket unless I have missed something. Thanks.

    • @PatsCarGarage
      @PatsCarGarage  Před 4 lety +1

      Use the locking holes to line everything up roughly. The chain should go on the intake sprocket no problem. If the exhaust doesn't quite line up, unlock it and move it clockwise (if I remember correctly) slightly until the chain slips onto the teeth. you can then do 2 full rotations of the crankshaft and remeasure it. The correct angles are at the end of the video.

      what's the condition of the wires look like? Is there any signs of the insulation degrading? Check the fuel injector wires especially, those are the most susceptible.

    Hi pat
    Im in the midle of a head gasket replacement i just put the chain tensioner back in and the chain guide by the tensioner is making a noise from hitting the head when i spin the engine. Is this because the tensioner is empty of oil or is it just too loose?

       i have tracked down the problem with a probe camera fed through the crank seal the chain is making a "belly" under the crankshaft sprocket. I tried to feed the chain tightly with a wire from one side and turn the crank , i tried to turn all crank and cam together but the chain is refusing to go in place down there.

    Hi Pat, thanks for the great video. I have a question. I'm planning on just replacing the timing chain on my m111. Am I to understand that at around 20 degrees past top dead center, I am able to lock the camshafts in place such that I am able to freely turn the crank after I remove the timing chain? Are the valves out of the way? So the pistons will not hit the valves?
    Thanks again!

    • @PatsCarGarage
      @PatsCarGarage  Před rokem

      I don't think you can do that, at least I wouldn't. as long as the camshaft is in I'd assume some of the valves are open enough that you shouldn't rotate the crank if the chain isn't on.

    Здравейте, при монтаж на нова верига (комплект) на колко градуса трябва да бъде синхронизацията на валовете - на 20 или 20+ градуса? Ако е на 20 градуса при монтажа след проверка отново ли ще бъде 20 градуса или ще са повече ?

      Hello, when installing a new chain (kit), how many degrees should the shaft synchronization be - 20 or 20+ degrees? If it is 20 degrees during installation, after checking, will it be 20 degrees again or will it be more?

    • @vvasilev1
      @vvasilev1 Před rokem

      If I lock the shafts the degrees are 28. If I move one tooth it goes about 8 degrees. Does this mean that the chain needs to be replaced / stretched?@@PatsCarGarage

    Hi Pat.
    I recently had a valve job on my w202 c200 m111.942 engine, and timing had to be done. So, the thing is that my mechanic just located the crankshaft at 40° and then just made the two pins on the camshafts somehow aligned, then the car started well and runned smooth, the only issue that i ended up having is: 1) sometimes is hard to turn on the engine and have to crank it long, and 2) the rpms when turnin on the engine are so low i have to step on the gas pedal for a a minute until idle is good. Could my mechanic have done wrong the process of timing the engine? or it could be he damaged something while doing the whole engine job??
    PD. my mechanic struggled finding the correct angle degree point on the crankshaft.

    • @PatsCarGarage
      @PatsCarGarage  Před 2 lety

      Yeah 40 degrees is too far for timing. It needs to be started earlier than that. The timing would need to be redone.
