    I have been wanting to make this video for a long time. I feel so overwhelmed that I even have this story to share! In this weeks video I talk about the very start of my running/weight loss journey. I feel that many people may be able to relate to some of the struggles and reasons I wanted to start running.
    Running is now my passion and literally the first thing I would choose to do with any of my free time! My life has taken a complete turn and this would have been a video I would have needed to see at the start of my journey.
    I want you to know that you CAN achieve what you may think is impossible!
    Thanks for watching guys!

    This is the most realistic running video I have ever watched. SO much truth. 30 seconds feels like forever to a non runner. I have tried C25K multiple times. Agree, after the first few weeks their running segments increase WAY too fast! Very very difficult to do that as a beginner. You found a much better way. Congratulations!!

    I’m 16 and was 230 pounds. I was diagnosed with clinical depression and essentially my life consisted of eating and sleeping. As a child, I grew up with a rather harmful diet culture and this led to me developing bad eating habits and my whole relationship with food was incredibly guilty and negative. I am currently 159 pounds and still going strong! I’ve developed a much healthier, active life style and my relationship with food is slowly rebuilding into something much more positive. I’m starting jogging, (I can currently jog for around a maximum of 10 minutes) not the greatest, but I don’t need that number to be high to feel great! Before I couldn’t even jog for 30 seconds! My journey also started with walking! I started with 10,000 steps being my goal, then gradually I could clock in at around 20,000 steps a day! With the addition of running, I’m doing around 10,000 a day + my running routine, eating healthy and I’m still seeing the number on the scale go down! I’ve had so many wonderful moments of feeling something close to appreciation and love for my body (which I have NEVER felt before) and I’m developing muscles where I never previously had them! I’m not at my goal yet, but the prospect is exciting! Not daunting. I want to wish everyone well on their journey. And please remember, any progress; big or small is still progress and I’m immensely proud of you! 🫶

    Well said Lucy. Just over 4 years ago I was a man who at 58 years of age weighed 18 stone and could also not slowly jog for more than a minute before stopping completely out of breath! Now at 62 years of age I have lost 70lbs and have run 5k in just over 20 mins, 10k in 42 mins, a half in under 1:35 and a marathon in 3:27. Never doubt yourself as I can promise you that if you perservere and do most of your runs at what seems an easy pace you will be surprised by what you can achieve, and more importantly you will feel so much better about yourself in so many ways.

      @Trashloot Před 9 měsíci +2

      @@snapdragon2441 Start with something you can do and slightly push yourself to do more. Start by walking for a 1-5 minutes. Do it until you feel comfortable and slowly increase your time. Don't overdo it in the beginning but do it every day. Getting used to moving and starting the process is the hardest part. And then get in to a rythm. Don't expect changes over night and keep doing it even if you're progress is very slow. Maybe you need more than two months to take a flight of stairs without running out of breath. But as long as you are not overdoing it and keep doing it you will get there.

My first 5k I ran in 40 mins now my 5k time is 26 mins and I ran my first half marathon this year with ease! Anything is possible! I remember running for 5 mins non stop for the first time, I just couldn't believe it was possible!

  • @CorwinFound
    @CorwinFound Před 10 měsíci +14

    This is honestly motivational! I've watched so many beginner running videos. And even when they are talking about how they first started it always seems to be, "I was a soccer player [or other intense sport] and hated running." It always seems to be people who were already fit but just not into running. This is a story I need to hear right now.
    I've been running 3+ times per week for 2 months. I'm 48 years old and need to lose 50lbs. Earlier this week I ran 40 minutes straight on the treadmill for a total of 4.8km! Only walking was my warm up. But when I started I was running 5minutes, walking two. I haven't lost a ton of weight but I'm keeping myself from worrying about that.
    For me, after more than a decade of failed weight loss and fitness attempts I went basic. I had three goals:
    1. Run a minimum of 3 times per week
    2. Get better at running.
    3. Don't get hurt.
    Nowhere in there was lose weight, get strong, change my diet or anything like that. The reason why the last two months have been different is because for the first time *I* am in control of the success. Success isn't being judged by a scale or clothing fit or anything else that I can't control absolutely. Every day that I get up and out running... I've succeeded. I've now succeeded 8 weeks in a row!
    Thanks for posting this and being real about the challenges. Very appreciated!

I've done C25K with great success in the past, but I'm at my most unfit at the moment, and there's no way, I'd even be able to follow the 1st week suggestions. LOL You make such good points that it's going to be hard and you might even be miserable, but if you really want to do it, push through. I would add this: is that temporary discomfort worse than the daily, constant discomfort of being unhealthy? My body still hurts from the weight I've gained. My ankles and calves hurt. My back hurts. Constantly. So, what's a little extra temporary discomfort that's going to help me lose the weight causing the chronic issues? Thank you for the reminder!

I just walked my first 5k, with a few minutes of running here and there during it. For the first several days I could only walk for 10 minutes, but I’ve built the time up. I’ve watched again for ideas to build up further. I’m showing up for myself again after years of self-neglect. Thank you for showing that it’s possible ❤

    I hope you read this! I just listened to this video while doing some dishes. I have been SO unmotivated to get fit lately. I have 3 kids under age 4, I’m tired, I’m overweight and I can only run for 2:30 minutes at a time. BUT this video totally changed my outlook. Oh my goodness, you are so motivational! I cannot wait to get outside and start running again, even if it is only a few minutes at a time, im so pumped now! Thank you for this! ❤

    I am right around where you were when you started. I just finished my first 5k on Saturday. I couldn't help crying tears of joy as soon as I finished. I'm excited to keep going and see where it takes me...I'd say I walked about half of the time, and my "running" speed isn't much quicker than walking. Thank you for sharing your story!

    Hi Lucy, I just finished listening to your story. I found I relate to you even though I am a lot older. I am 76 years young and I too have the same issues that you did as far as "can I really do this?" Your story has helped me and I have decided to watch/listen to you daily until I accomplish my goal of "running a 5k non-stop". I live in North Carolina, USA so the weather here is about to get really humid (it's June 7, '23) but I can do it....With prayer, your story and honesty I CAN do it!!!!!!! Blessing! victoria

But I got some running shoes and started walking/running and just focused on what I was comfortable doing and what didn’t make me feel like I was dying. I’m not even focused on my weight it’s just about how I feel in my body and if I feel healthy. Thank you for being so realistic and honest!

    I loved watching you tell your story! I'm super impressed with your dedication and wisdom that ley you overcame your self doubt!
    I lost about 30kg and started running too in my mid thirties after leading a sedentary life style, and now just ran my first marathon in 3:39. Super proud and amazed that I could do something like that. But even more than the marathon accomplishment and my weight loss, I'm happy about the positive effects it's had on my mental health. I love running mostly because of how it makes me feel mentally and emotionally. A great tip that I've learned, if you're ever struggling with niggles and not being able to run as much as you like, is to get into cycling too. It costs more than running but really helps with building aerobic fitness as well as giving you your daily dose of happiness hormones. It's also convenient to do during the winter by getting an indoor trainer and a game like Zwift! Anyways. Thanks for sharing your story and best wishes!

    I’m a huge Disney fan so I’ve signed up for virtual Disney 5k’s. Right now, with this heat, even a mile outside is awful, but I did a search on CZcams and this video popped up. I’m so glad I watched it.
    I hate running, mostly I think because it showed me every time how out of shape I was. Uncomfortable, out of breath. Sweating.
    But…I want those Disney medals more than I want to avoid those things. Your video here is so encouraging. You’ve given me so many ideas of ways to make it work without overdoing it and pushing too hard to where I’d quit.
    I just got new shoes and wore them yesterday. I got tips from my therapist actually (get body glide to avoid chafing! Put body glide in a Fanny pack on runs!)
    Thanks for posting this

    As a runner for 30 years (and a coach as well), I'm thrilled by your strategy of slowly working your way up to longer distances! Most beginners go way too fast and too long too quickly, injure themselves and then say that running is a bad thing. Congrats to you, keep up the good work and don't feel bad for getting emotional - that's just a sign that you really love the sport 👍!

Like you, I have watched all the elite runners but don’t relate. I am on a journey to loose 60# and I am half way there. I have recently started running and signed up for my first 5k race here in Missouri, USA. I have started the Nike running app 5k plan and really enjoying it. But yes I am loving your videos. This video is exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you so much for making it all those years ago! The sweating more once you're inside a shop part really resonates with my experience too - it's for this reason that I walk to the shop and arrive 15 minutes before it opens, just so that I can cool down! I do 30 mins walking each day so I am going to try and run some of it, just like you suggest. I will be gobsmacked if I ever get to the point where I can run for 20 mins without stopping, let alone 'hours'!

    Hi Lucy, this video appeared in my recommended videos and it came at just the right time. I'll try to make this quick. In 2017, my mom died unexpectedly from a massive heart attack. That made me get off my bum and take care of myself. I lost 70 pounds and I became a runner. Then a year later, I had another tragedy and loss. This one hit me really hard and I stopped running. I gained some weight back and I fell into a deeper depression. It's taken me a few years to come out of it. I have had a tough go of it. I broke my foot last year, twice. I am just now able to get back to it and I had been hoping for some inspiration and motivation and boom, here's your video popping up right when I need it. I paused your video midway through and I got my gym bag packed to go after work (there's a gym at my office building, free to use anytime). So, thank you for sharing your journey and thank you for giving me the inspiration to start again!!
