  • Just starting my #BecomingFilipnio road-trip from Iligan City to Pagadian I stopped near Kauswagan in Lanao Del Norte...
I pulled over on a bridge to do a little "talk for camera". I noticed that nearby the bridge there was a whole lot happening and little bit of smoke... It looked like a copras making factory!
I randomly rolled up on my scooter and next thing I know was hanging out with incredibly friendly locals! It was so much fun laughing, smiling and joking around while making copras with everyone!
    What is Copras?
It is oil made out of coconuts!
Here in the Philippines there are a lot of coconut trees and thus there is a lot of copras making! Bunot, Abres, Lugit... Just a few of the interesting steps to making the oil! This is a very raw experience of me making copras!
It is truly amazing how fast and precise everyone is at each step! You can see in the video it is definitely a whole lot of team work, speed and accuracy! I have a lot of respect for people who can do this all day, and with an attitude like they showed me...
Still being able to share happiness and laugh :)
    Copras pa More!
    Super Apir!

Coconut juice is very expensive here in North America, When I was there almost everyday I eat and drink coconut juice almost everyday in our back yard.

That's impressive how professional they are at peeling and gutting the coconuts. Looks dangerous, but they are on point, and with such speed.

I used to help my brother-in-law make copras when I was little. We would start early in the morning then eat our lunch in a nearby bukal(spring). Sometimes we get to find some wild berries and other fruits, too. We don't make much but our hearts are trully satisfied. Thanks for this Kulas. Another trip to memory lane for me.

Some parts in the south remove the coconut meat after hacking the shell, in Eastern Visayas they half cook it first because it is easier to remove the meat. To bunot, the fastest guy can do it in three counts, the guy in video did it for four and Kulas did it more hahaha.
