    What I like about Bombay is exactly this that is delicate, light, fresh, like a fresh enchanted forest and the bottle really matches it. So far I’ve never seen better gin bottle ever.

    Ive tried Tanqueray and Bombay by myself and with others as a test. Bombay unanimously came back as the winner because of its taste that we thought was more distinct than Tanqueray. Ive seen Beefeater and heard its rather a good option to try so I may give that a go next time. Thanks for the analysis!

    Great to see you back Tim, more please, Love your sensible reviews. agree the fun of gin is we all like different things - I love the traditional beefeater style and Bombay and Hendricks don’t work for me, but my friends see it differently. It would be pretty boring if we all felt the same!

    Thanks for a very informative video. I'm new to gin so picked this one up for a change as I usually drink Bourbon/Scotch. Quite enjoying the different flavours gin has to offer and looking forward to trying more in the future. Keep up the good work. Liked and subscribed cheers.

    It was the only gin I drank, until I tried other brands and Bombay sits in the back of the shelf… it’s not bad … but there are more varieties available that are better for same price

    I still prefer Bombay. There are many to choose from and maybe it's just the aesthetic, but I prefer the Sapphire. The East was my favorite flavor and around where I live, has been harder to find.

    I love Bombay Sapphire but here in the states, the higher alcohol definitely makes it taste different. I bought some Beefeater to compare last week and I like it but it’s lower alcohol really affects it’s taste.

    @GOTAisMe Před 2 lety +6

    Bombay Sapphire is among the worst of the major gin brands. It's thin even in the US with higher ABV. There is an artificial note to the flavors. The regular Bombay gin at least gets rid of that fake chemical taste but it still has that watery consistency. I don't know what grain they use as a base spirit but it creates something that is so soft that it completely lacks any body. You were very honest Tim and it's a good review but I'd be a lot more critical. Bombay Sapphire is on a tier with Gordons, Seagrams and G&J

      I remember the first time I tried it, it reminds me the taste of celery. Then I had not pour it…

    • @TimandTonic
      @TimandTonic  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah that artificial note you describe is what I was trying to explain. It’s kind of like the “coriander effect” - there is something in there that a small percentage of the population just cannot stand on a visceral level. I don’t get it as artificial as much as earthy and bitter. Although I did once have a Bombay Sapphire G&T can (big mistake) and that was artificial in HD, but I put that down to poor quality tonic in the mix but who knows.
      And you’re bang on about the Bombay Dry, better than the Sapphire but still better options for the $$$ out there! Cheers 🍸

      @@TimandTonic It's a very weak gin and I don't like the after taste. I tried it several times and I have used Bombay gin in several cocktails, to give it a fair chance, and I have, believe me, and I agree that there is a "coriander effect" that takes over the gin and it's all I can taste in an after taste. I prefer to taste juniper and to me there is none here. There's just nothing here in this gin. I really wanted to find something appealing but I can't with Bombay. I love martinis and Bombay just doesn't cut it. You have given Bombay a terrific chance Tim! I agree with your conclusions - 100% Even in the classic G&T it just lacks way too much for me to consider ever buying this gin. I gave it a good go and that's all we can do!! Cheers!! 🙂

    Welcome back brother!!
    Coincidentally, I wonder how Bombay Sapphire stacks against Aviation? Since they sound like they would fit in the same "Category" of lighter gins. On the other hand I wouldn't want you to have to give it 5th place behind something else lol

    Well I can see why you dislike it, but those are the reasons I like it. I am no fan of liquorice root so many gins taste to much of it. This has a good balance for me, but I can see how someone who like that flavour will find it missing

    bombay sapphire is perfect to mix with arizona rx. the taste profiles of both compliment each other very well and the arizona adds that citrus note thats missing from the bombay and helps make the bitterness more palatable.
