MICRO JIG FISHING - What is that?

  • The category of micro jig fishing for bass is still new and not quite popular like other finesse techniques. It is only a matter of time before it catches on so you better be educated on them now! Listen to veteran pro bass angler, John Crews, talk through how to use them and why they are different from other finesse presentations like Ned Rig and Shaky Head.

    Guess I’ve been ahead of the curve. Been making and throwing them since the 80’s 😎. Then using JDM ones

    I've fell in love with Keitech mono spin jig. It's really small and the only trailer to use is your Drop Craw. I use their bluegill flaah and pair it with a Fishalicious color Drop Craw. Hands down, best setup I use for Micro finesse jigs. If I'm out of Ned Bombs, I usually break off my finesse worms and use them. Not a bad choice when you have to improvise. Dye pens definitely turn a icecile into a bluegill color pretty fast. Micro jigs can be fished all day, everyday pretty much in the south. I've been using them for many years and I've changed jigheads to fit the application as well. EWG'S have their place & one I use quite often. Love using Zman mushroomz as well. When it comes to finesse,...... you'd be surprised what really does work great

    Started throwing them earlier this year around ponds to help build confidence in jigs period. Just got my first Missile micros and I love em. Just need the ice to thaw to put them to use. Such a killer pond bank fishing bait in the summer when the bite is tough

    I love these little jigs. Definitely great for smallmouth bass! Dill pickle was a big deal for me last year, caught my pb smallmouth on it in June 2020. Great video John. Thanks

    Micro jigs are definitely in a league all their own. Sloan Bait co. used to make a twin grub and skirt that you could build your own Creepy Crawler jig. And just before he went under, he offered a smaller version and I wore out some fish all over the south east US. Glad you did cover the subject & your colors of choice. Thanks for sharing 👍

    Strikeking used to make tiny jigs long ago. Can't remember the series of baits but the little jigs they had we used on ultralights and it started my love for bass fishing in general. Glad to see they're being introduced for another generation to enjoy.

      @@steezy3998 Maybe a micro version but they were definitely smaller then the bitsy bug jig of today. These things were about the size of a quarter with a head size of 1/32 and 1/16. Tiny little things. They made them back in the early to mid 90's, I haven't seen any in many years.
      Bitsy bug jigs still catch a ton of fish but I like the baby boo jigs better myself.

    I love these for river and creek fishing; even small lakes that are predominantly rock. I do wish you would design a specific trailer system for these. I have been cobbling together trailers for a year now and can't seem to find exactly what I want. Something like a super chunk style, or even a realistic craw like the old Madman Mooneyham craws. I have two-ish packs of the old zoom mini chunks but they are not exactly right, either. Thank you for developing these little dandies!

    May be overkill. But bought a penn squadron III medium light rod(guessing it's like a medium-medium heavy freshwater rod) paired with a bg 3000 with 10lb braid and 10lb fluoro. And love it for the zman finnesse jigs like the one your using and with the ticklers as it's trailer or the craw by zman. And so I love it. Then use a medium light freshwater rod for doing the 1/10th and 1/15oz zman finnesse ned head with the regular zmans 2.75 and 2.5 inch zman baits.

    Hey JC good stuff...Like it when I see Spinning combo setups...Since I use Spinning combos 90% of the time.
    Question pre spawn and Spawn coming up...What size and color would be the go to for that time of the year?

    • @JohnCrews
      @JohnCrews  Před 3 lety

      Prespawn is some red or orange on the trailer or in the skirt but during spawn, I don't think there is a big color that excels.

      6 is okay with no weed guard. The skirt provides the action regardless of line size within reason.
