Another quirk regarding flying press is the behavior when it's used into tera shell Terapagos. Because the game code literally changes Terapagos' type to take the attack that breaks tera shell (the reason why all 3 hits from surging strikes are not very effective) and the fact that no one type resists both flying and fighting, the move is actually 4x resisted by Terapagos instead of the usual 2x resist for moves that break tera shell.

In X and Y, there’s a type of horde of four zangooses (zangeese?) and one seviper. Zangeese and Seviper attack each other.
That’s how I lost my first shiny Seviper since the zangeese knocked out the Seviper before I could knock all four of them out. (you need to knock out 4/5 pokemons in a horde to be able to throw pokeballs).

This mechanic exists in SOS battles in Sun and Moon as well. The Pokedex mentions that Mareanie are natural predators to Corsola, which informs not only the fact that the only way to find a Mareanie is by starting an SOS chain with a wild Corsola, but the fact that the Mareanie will actively target the Corsola before it will target you.

My favourite mechanics involves non-type related immunities. An example is Ogerpon Hearthflame being able to use helping hand on Gholdengo who is normally immune to status moves, but that’s just mold breaker.
My favourite actually involves terrain. I’m unsure if this is possible with other terrains, but in Pokémon, you can always target your teammate assuming there’s no redirection. This includes on terrain, as priority moves will actually ignore psychic terrain if you’re targeting your teammate, which is why helping hand isn’t blocked, but it works with attacking moves too.
Another interaction involves redirecting abilities. If the Pokémon can bypass the abilities, such as mold breaker, it will still be redirected, but won’t provide immunity or any of the additional effects

    Here’s a fun fact I learned.
Anyone remember the move Nature Power? It would change depending on the environment. For example, if you’re battling inside a building, Nature Power would become Body Slam
Well, there’s a unique interaction Nature Power has specifically in Oras. If you use Nature Power during the Deoxys battle in space, it will become Draco Meteor. This is the only place in any game this interaction happens

    • @mettatonex7221
      @mettatonex7221 Před 28 dny +12

I looked it up to see if this had any special implications for the Distortion World, but I was disappointed to learn it does the same thing as if they were inside a building and just pulls Tri Attack.
However, I did learn that if used in Ultra Space, it becomes Psyshock. Also, apparently if you use this move on a bridge in Sword and Shield, it becomes Air Slash. Which weirdly does not apply to other games with bridges like Black and White.
Honestly, a topic like this might be worth its own video.

Ability interaction I know of is a No Guard Pokemon can hit an opponent using Dig, Fly, Bounce, or Dive with any move, but the opponent can hit you if you use any of those moves as well. I know this because I used a Machamp on my team in the 2010 VGC National Championships Last Chance Qualifier, (the only Pokemon tournament I ever took part in.), & I gave it Dig before realizing the mistake I made while doing test battles in Pokemon Battle Revolution. • @Zurenza

So, I always find this interaction really entertaining. The ability Klutz is generally regarded as Useless, it prevents items from taking effect when held by the Pokémon. There's a lot of fun things you can do with this ability though. And this one is my favorite.
    1. Assualt Vest, You can have a pokemon with Klutz carry an assault vest, then use either Trick or Sitcheroo to give it to a pokemon on the opposing team who has a lot of status moves. In gen 6, this would actually result in the move they use fizzling out if you used Switcheroo before the opposing pokemon used a Non-Damaging move, if they only have Status moves, they will be forced to struggle. In 7 and 8, it doesn't. BUT there's ANOTHER use for klutz.
    2. Encore, if you trick or switcheroo an Assault vest on a pokemon who used a Status/non-damaging move in Gen 7 or 8, then use encore, the pokemon will be forced to struggle.
    3. Entrainment, give Klutz to an opposing pokemon who's ability is extremely useful to them.
There are a few pokemon who have Klutz, of them only 2 have a speed stat above 100, and only 1 learns Switcheroo, the other learns Trick, which trick doesn't work on Dark-Types. Lopunny, for all the meme's, is the only pokemon with Klutz that learns all 3 of these moves, has a speed stat above 100 AND decent enough bulk to use it.

So, if you take a steel fairy mon (so Mawile/Klefki/Magearna/ZacianC/Tinka*) and cast ToT on them, you get a mon that:
    takes 2× damage from fire/ghost/ground
    takes neutral damage from dark/electric/steel/water
    takes 1/2 from fairy/flying/grass/ice/psychic/rock

Is the move you last used counted as the move you selected or the random move that is used after it? If it counts as the move used as a result of the move, are you able to spam metronomes or copycats under torment? If you have that move that was selected by copycat or metronome in your move set and try to use it on the turn after it was selected by copycat or metronome, will torment block it?

@@venti_al Ya, all three of the pledge aftermaths could be really good if a team was based around it. Rainbow doubles the chances of secondary effects, Swamp QUATERS the opponents speed, and Sea of Fire makes the opponents lose 1/8th of there max Hp every turn. While the effects only last for 4 turns (idk if terrain extender works with them) when used at the same time they both do 150 dmg!!! With 2 of fire, water, and grass you get really good coverage. When I learned about them I was SHOCKED that I've never seen anyone use them. Kinda makes we want to make a team based around them.

Flying Press is such a cool move, but is hindered a lot by being not only an 80 bp weaksauce attack, but also being _95%_ accurate for no reason. It was boosted to 100 bp in Gen 7? Still kind of trash.
If it were 100% accurate and had 120 bp, then it would be a really cool signature move whose mechanics could be more widely known. But next to the likes of HJK and eventually CC, it's just the "do less damage to neutral targets, Steel-types, Rock-types, and get quad resisted by Zapdos" option instead of the potential 2 in 1 deal, "kill Darkrai, Rillaboom, Ting-Lu, and Zamazenta in one click" move that it's meant to be.
