    a useful technique for rigging small to medium sized limbs through the canopy of a tree. One man operation being the point.
    The wet weather made it hard to make a good vid, but you get the point. Once in the flow it actually works pretty well. Thanks.

    Good tip Reg. I've worked by myself for years and have developed some techniques that make quite a lot more possible than you would think. Usually easier with a ground man, but I can't always get one. Necessity is the mother of invention and tree work can be a mother.

    Great tip and showing the application of solo rigging really clearly. Sure this will save me/groundie a lot of time in the future. Double ropped "there's no point" ha ha. Cheers

    So much work when you’re climbing to have to pull them back up to release them. Love your videos

    Skinning cats just got better. I've always used a dynamic pulley system with rats tails clipped into butterfly knots but this method makes a helluva lot of sense though it involves more work up the tree it saves time and energy on retrieval of the tails on the ground when working on ones own. Thanks heaps.

    Interesting technique! You must bid accordingly for the extra time needed. I am slowly beginning more solo work, so i will have to try this!

      ole matson Its not really a replacement for conventional rigging. Obviously it's slower. But if there's no help at hand, it's an option. Works well for removals too ie tie off and hang a big limb, then disect it into smaller pieces from an easier work position.

    What a brilliant technique though, a great tree/life hack. A prusik and sling on a static line, simple and safe....I will be trying this. Thanks for posting Reg.

    Damn Reg this definitely is a good idea, but what a pain in the ass, just rather hire some for a few bucks a day to help with the rigging than going through this.

    • @Recoates
      @Recoates  Před 6 lety +3

      More of a trick in the tool box Kenny. The odd limb or log here and there. Or if its just not economical to tie up the groundwork with rigging duties etc. More often that not there's just me and one other guy nowdays, if I'm not solo. So we have to work in a way that we both effectively utilized while not waiting or making the other redundant, if you know what I mean. That often means a strategy might be a whole lot different than if there was a third guy helping also.

    Another quality video, Reg. Now complete with microphone commentary, I notice! "It's as slippy as fuck" comment made me chuckle...
    I notice you weren't wearing spikes (spurs) in the tree. Presumably you were only removing/lifting lower overhanging limbs?

    • @Recoates
      @Recoates  Před 10 lety +2

      Yes mate, just some end-weight hanging over the roof and wires. We shortened about a dozen limbs or so. Sometimes with the line, sometimes without. thats the thing....its easy to set up, and not in the way if you dont use it.

    What kind of rigging rope and prusik do you use? I definitely want to try this. Also, say i were to do this with a bigger limb, let's say 5" diameter and 12' long so probably 100-200lbs. Could I drop the limb then lower it to the ground manually by sliding down the prusik or would this much weight tighten the prusik so much that i couldn't slide it?

    Thanks. I wonder how you get along with trees with resin, pines and so? Does the resin damage the saw, the harness and ropes? I've done some trimming with the hand saw and the resin glued it completely. I suppose you got used to it...

    • @Recoates
      @Recoates  Před 10 lety +1

      It can mess up the rope pretty good if you dont wash it out before it goes dry. Its annoying but there's not a lot you can do about it.

      @VisinskiRadoviBeograd Před 10 lety

      Hi. I managed to solve resin with alcohol, but what solvent do you use for ropes? Thanks

    Well back home in the UK I am maybe! foolishly going to have a go at cutting down a big conifer tree in my back garden, been watching lots of arborist clips, the plan is to work my way up the tree and cut it down in sections, I have bought a rock climbing harness as much cheaper than arborist harness, 11mm static rope some prussic cord a hand ascender and a strap to go from the harness to the ascender, I plan to get used to using the climbing gear at a low height, then when feeling confident with the gear, attack that bloody conifer, which some smart arse thought was a good idea to plant slap bang in front of the living room window, and only about 12ft away. So I guess this is either going to go really well or really badly lol, which one you putting your money on ha ha.

      He trimmed the small stuff off of it with a pole saw, and then with a folding pruning saw up to around 25 feet up, using SRT. Then he decided to hire out the large branches and big wood to what looked like a pretty green crew of 3. >>> czcams.com/video/vPMUCrAuvQ0/video.html
