Express the moment of the couple acting on the
pipe assembly in Cartesian vector form. What is the
magnitude of the couple moment?
I just love how you explain things so clearly. You're making a difference. Thank you.
I would like to say that I appreciate the work you do. Due to this video my understanding of this material has increased greatly.
1)Find r_bc by subtracting point c - b = (3i + 2.5j +0k)
2)Solve Fb = 0i + 0j + 20k
3)Take cross product of r_bc x Fb = 50i - 60j
4)Solve for magnitude = sqrt(50i^2 + 60j^2) = 78.1 ft*lb
Could you please explain the right hand rule for the couple moment, and the sense of the couple moment.
You always help me with these problems dude :D thanks
or you could have just divided vector BC's components in half to get the midway point and followed the same process. Great explanations you are such a good teacher! thank you.
These help me so much
Can you do 4-94
ready for that me221 quiz anybody?
you complicated it should've done the cross product and found the cartesian vector then by the square root of the x and y and z components we find the magnitude, good video though.
i agree, i only used 2 steps
why is it -1 k?????
i didnt get it
I want to know too. Why can't it be +1k?
For cross products the right hand rule is used to determine the direction of the resulting vector. Align your right hand down the first vector and then turn your fingers along the second vector, your thumb will point in the direction of the new vector. If +1k was used the new vector would be pointing in the wrong direction.
He also used the right hand rule for moments to figure out the direction that the moment vector should be pointing. Curl the fingers of your right hand in the direction of the rotation (which you can visualize from the diagram) your thumb will point in the direction of the moment vector.
Hope this helped! :)
