    how do you determine the sign for each one if CCW is +

      You use the right hand rule to determine their sign. First, you point your fingers in the same direction as one of the forces in the couple. Then, you curl your fingers towards the other force. If the curl of your fingers matches the direction of rotation that is taken to be positive, then the couple moment is positive. If your fingers curl in the opposite direction, then the couple moment is negative.

      you probably dont care but does anyone know a way to get back into an Instagram account..?
      I stupidly forgot the password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me

      @Miller Zaiden Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process atm.
      I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.

    Wait. At 3:18 @F2 shouldn't it be (5cos45) not 10cos45? You should be calculating distance from O to F2 not F1..?

    how do you solve this problem using the idea of couple forces though?

    • @MrMegaL0N3
      @MrMegaL0N3 Před 3 lety

      You resolve the couple forces into their components as was done in the beginning of this video. Then, you find the moment arms of these couples. I found it easier to visualize these by redrawing the crank as right triangles on both sides of the base. The point of applications of forces can be placed on the triangles, so the moment arms can be found with trigonometry. You then set up the equation for resultant couple moment of the forces to be zero to find F.
