  • Founded in 1912 by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the Republic of China (ROC) has seen its rise and decline, from the successor state of the Qing Empire, through the warlord era and the 1937 Sino-Japanese War, and finally its relocation to the Island of Taiwan after its defeat in the Chinese Civil War. This video explores the leaders of the ROC from 1912 to 2020.
The map shows the approximate territory controlled by the ruler at the end of his reign. Maps and Photos are from Wikipedia.

It is hoped that the ROC will realize the territory of Haitang, which the ROC has claimed so far. These territories will involve many countries. It is a pity that the current Republic of China is unable to achieve this, and can only do its best to protect Taiwan and defend democracy. The main hope now is that when the people of the People's Republic of China realize the importance of democracy, there will be hope for Chinese ideology. Although China is prosperous now, it is clear that it is almost a dictatorship. Now, it has gone against the idea of the original revolution. China circled around. Unless Taiwan can far surpass mainland China in all aspects, most Chinese will not agree with Taiwan's philosophy, because Taiwan's own economic take-off was also achieved under Chiang Kai-shek's dictatorship. In your comment, You State your point and give a lot of sources to proof your opinion.I really appreciate that.
However, you have to know the fact that Taiwan is an independent country now, whether you accept it or not,it is the fact. Taiwan has its own president, land, army, and the most important, the sovereignty, which means that the PRC cannot affect any moves that the ROC government do in Taiwan.
I think the unification of China (taking back Taiwan)is hilarious. If you learn Chinese history, you will find out that Taiwan has never been governed by PRC in its 72-years history. This makes the PRC’s plan of unification of China extremely nonsense, since Taiwan was never a part of China.Only the Netherlands,Spain,Ming dynasty(Zheng Chenggong, not the original Ming dynasty),Qing dynasty(not Chinese, Qing’s emperors are Manchu people from the North) and the ROC.
The conclusion is The People’s Republic of China has never governed Taiwan in its 72-years governance of China, and this makes the unification of China(action to take back Taiwan) nonsense. In my opinion,if PRC attacks Taiwan someday, that will only be PRC’s invasion of ROC.

In 1949, around 1+ million Chinese fled to Taiwan. By that time about 5+ million Taiwanese people’s nationality were still JAPAN. It was until 1952, after the Peace Treaty with Japan was signed, Taiwanese people had no choice but forced to change their nationality from Japan to ROC rather than TAIWAN. Taiwanese people reserve their rights of self determination based in the UDHR (UN Declaration of Human Rights) and CCPR.
Most of the defendants of the 1+million new immigrants identify themselves as Chinese (it is understandable because they only live in Taiwan for 74 years) and most of the descendants of the 5+ million Taiwanese (Hoklo & Hakka have lived in Taiwan from 400 years to 170 years; Austronesian have lived in Taiwan for thousands years) identify themselves as Taiwanese.
Like the first and second generation immigrants to America, they have different self-identifications from the 10th or 16th generation who born in America.
The situation in Taiwan is like the first and second generations of the America citizens want to persuade the rest of the Americans to reunited with the UK. And King Charles III is also denying the facts that the US is an independent country and threatening American Federal government and citizens not to declare independent from the UK by aiming 1500 missiles at the United States and sending Air Force to fly around Thirteen British Colonies on daily basis.
