Unless you seal the edges on the roof. Water is going to seep through when you’re driving it down the road and stay in between the steel roof and your wood roof with possibility of mold. Because there’s nothing to dry it in between the steel roof and the original roof.

Nice job! Caulking is needed on seams around windows. Are you concerned about water getting in behind the metal, between the sides and roof?

  • @thechristiancarpenter

You did a fine job, young lady. You can always paint the roof red. I liked your choice in stain. My only suggestion would be to buy a couple more boxes of the self tapping screws and really go over the seams. Going down the road, it will incur more wind than a normal house. Can't wait to see ya fishing and camping out of it.

Great point on extra screws. That stuff will start rattling loose and you do not want that!

  • @kennethnagy7693

If you want to trim the metal on the roof properly, get a tool called a nibbler. It is made for cutting across metal panels. The only thing you need to be aware of is that it cuts little nibblets of metal that will fall to the floor of the trailer and possibly the ground. So you will want to put down a drop cloth to catch them. Otherwise, add more screws to the seams as other people have said. You can also get a strip of foam that is shaped like the metal and use it to seal the edges of the roof metal and above the windows. It will stop rain and bugs from getting under the ceiling metal. But for a first time metal worker, you did a great job!!

I just stumbled onto this video and I do carpentry for a living and I’m seriously impressed. It is awesome and inspiring seeing a young woman like yourself not be intimidated by learning some new skills, processes, and techniques. You are doing an awesome job! Some of the people commenting were talking about space for the roof to dry out behind the metal. When we put put a metal roof on a house we lay down a couple rows of wooden strapping about 2 feet apart, the strapping is 3/4” or 1/2” but it provides an air space between the metal and the plywood that is covered in ice and water shield or roof wrap. It is just an air space tho. As for cutting the metal and flushing up the ends, if you want to do it quick I always just take a circular saw and put the blade on backwards and then it will cut metal or vinyl siding like butter but please be careful and hold on to the saw, but it is a very efficient and effective way to cut metal siding or roofing or vinyl as well. Make sure to set the depth On the saw so that you don’t have more blade than necessary out. Great job keep up the great work!

While I doubt it will leak much, I would caulk the seams around all windows. You may have, but I missed it! Additionally, for all screws, caulk them as well. Water is so good at finding the opening! You did amazing! I was thinking this while i saw you were working!

Just make sure you seal around all the edges of the wood and as far as the metal hanging off the sides you could just fold it over put the wood on top and re-screw it in just to have more protection around the edges

There is a metal trim that laps from the side over the top and you can put that on the way around and you wouldn't have that sharp. Edge all the way around and another thing is, it'll also keep water from the bar and the wind blowing under and ripping your roofing off. It'll block all that off

Looks great! Suggestion: sealing the ends of wood is key defense of weakpoint. I am not surprised people are watching you drive bg...going to be great for your trips! And really upped the cuteneas of the tiny house. Love the suggestion someone gave in comments of buying plastic inserts that fit along edge of curves and roof, to defend agnst rain and bugs on the road; to add to confusion, keep in mind some venting is as impirtant as sealing for mold protection. Travel strong! Looking firward to next adventures.

    Hi Becca
    Old RV tech here
You need rubber membrane for your tiny house
Go look up local roofers who do rubber membrane work and they always have cut offs
Even if you had to do your roof with 3 strips if you have the rubber overlap the edges and then use trim with buttel tape and that baby won’t ever leak

Sup Becca, looks good 👍, bought a lot of right things, there's a special caulk can use on seams, isn't cheap but works, when good weather is remove the roof, let wood dry, and use a roofing rubberized coating after seal seams, ten replace the green panels and caulk the seams, the edges can get a grinding attachment for that osculating multi tool? If not for that brand then an angle grinder, there's different discs. I know I have them or did? Been giving everything away because of health, I can't use anymore. Ik have all 3 sizes nail guns, boxes of nails in different sizes, compressor, every air tool can imagine, acute off tool would've cut that fast with no blisters, think have left handed snips still and I used right handed most.. wish would've raised basement months ago, but know all air tools and most all electric tools still there, and what's in the tool chest still have... Be watching, NY was nice👍, tyvm tc 🎣

But if you put solar panels on it, make sure you put like angle aren't on the side bolt through and then go up in the air and across with your crossbar, that way, when i'm being bolted in the side and you put beetle tape around them, you won't have any leaks

The tiny home looks beautiful! I worked in construction for many years and one project was a covered patio and the owner wanted corrugated metal like you used. We used the same type of screws with the rubber seal and unfortunately it leaked a lot. we had to either caulk each screw or screw the metal in on the high side of the ridge, not in the valley of the ridge. Idk if that makes sense. Maybe the elastomeric paint will help. I have also seen where elastomeric paint will trap water in between the building surface and the paint causing a bubble and keeping the water trapped. These issues were on large buildings and homes so hopefully it won't happen on the tiny home. sorry for being a Debbie Downer.

Looks nice, learning skills is a lifetime experience, so keep at it, you are doing great 🙂. When cutting metal, if there is any chance of shards, lay down a catch cloth or tarp to keep your feet and your cut doggie's feet safe. You might experience some wind resistance on that roof while you are towing since you made the ridges of the metal run left and right rather than the traditional up and down (or in this case from front to back with the roof lines) which most efficiently drains the water from high point to low point of the roof. I can see where you would not want the wind of towing to pull up the metal edges while driving down the road if you had placed the metal front to back. I you ever decide to rework which way the roof metal is running, I would bend the edges of the metal down on the front of the house so the wind would not place an upward force on them and would instead place a downward force while towing. I can't tell if you added a ridge cap to your roof, but I hope you did to help keep out the water. You might even cover the entire roof in the sealant tape you used around the vents, the advantage of a cozy space is being able to "overbuild" on a tight budget. Again, nicely done, way to encourage others to get out there and just put in the effort trying out new things. God bless 🙂

Since we use corrugated (galvanize) sheets to cover our roofs, so I know for sure when I say you should have layered the pieces over each other. Makes it more water proof and I hope you did use the corrugated kind because it helps with the rust.

And also they make a piece of ridged foam to seal the humps on the edge of your roof. Just loosen the screws slide it in and screw it back down. Good luck 👍 looks good good job

Caulk and silicone are great for home use but not movable dwellings, you could go through 3 major temperature changes in a days drive, what you need for sealing cracks is called sekaflex
It sticks better than any silicone
You can only find it in RV shops
Check the date on the tube, it has a shelf life and it’s not cheap
