This is exactly why I left teaching after 23 years! People have no idea what is going on in these classrooms. I feel guilty because I feel like God called me to teach, but I just can’t do it anymore.

All the best teachers are leaving. It's sad that children are being completely abandoned at the hands of perverts. Hopefully, something much better comes out of this moral crisis.

Public schools receive money from local taxpayers but they also receive money from the state based on the number of students. It is the reason why public schools rarely kick a student out, they would not get funding for that student.

I’m old, born in the 1940s. Subjects in school and collage back then used to be call “the disciplines”. We learned to discipline our minds to learn various subjects, the fundamentals of rational thinking. This disciplined in turn taught us how to rationally teach ourselves. Not everything is in a text book.

I was a public school teacher for 10 years (English, History and Digital Media) 3 years ago my wife and I’s business was strong enough to support us so I quit. After that my daughter started pre-k and things were going well but when she started Kindergarten the wheels kind of fell off, she struggled with perfection and beating herself up for getting even one question wrong.
So at my wife’s urging we did first grade at home. It was hard, she’s a little stubborn (ok, she gets it from me) but you’re 100% correct about the education system. As we start 2nd grade I have no regrets.
It was great meeting you at NEC! Love the channel!

Fr. Leo, I am so glad you talked about ADHD and allowing children to be children. During my time working at a public school, I was so sad to see students eating extremely processed diets provided by the school - powdered donuts for breakfast, chicken nuggets for lunch, and cookies as a snack. Then when students couldn’t focus they would immediately be put on drugs. It’s such a shame 😞

As someone who went to a public school, it really does feel like a prison for children.
Public schools seem to have only gotten worse since I left.

I retired from teaching 6 years ago and the educational system was already embracing stupid ridiculous practices, like all fourth grade classes must be on the same lesson in social studies; researchers say we don’t all learn at the same rate. At the beginning of my career schools got rid of ability-leveled classes. One year I had some of the smartest 4th graders I ever knew. Also quite a few very low SPED students who had been incorrectly targeted as “inclusion” students. The SPED students drowned even though I went to the meetings to correct the problem, but was ignored. And those stellar students were denied the opportunity for some really cool, challenging lessons I had designed for them because I was one person doing five things. Parents didn’t like ability-leveled classes because it made their child or them feel bad. We are not all the same and as soon as we know this we will create a life with what we can do and stop feeling entitled to things beyond our abilities or that we haven’t earned. Do NOT blame teachers for breakdown of the school system. It starts WAY ABOVE classroom level. Teachers have little say over anything. Oh wait, we once had a faculty meeting where we spent the entire time deciding on a school color for homework folders. I knew some great school admin, but toward the end of my career so many were bottom-of-barrel, rude, biased, and agenda-driven individuals. Smarter and more ethical folks jumped to other professions. I met some lovely parents, who may have dropped by to say how much they appreciated my work. But I met many more who just wanted to scream at me because I was doing my job, like disciplining their child so that he wouldn’t hurt himself or others or follow the rules so he could learn. Rules are good, aren’t they? Like, Thou shall not kill, and stop signs. Keeps us able to live successfully in small spaces together. So many send their kids to school with new clothes, but can’t tie their shoes (2nd grade), or sit in a chair for 20 minutes to hear a story because the parents don’t teach them simple manners or rudimentary discipline. (I saw a lot of families run by an out-of-control child.) These problems are foisted on teachers with no training in how to deal with the breakdown of the system, and the broken families. Fr. Leo, I have liked your other videos, but you are so wrong about teachers. We aren’t all great or even good, but most teachers teach with devotion to our students and to ourselves to do the best job we can despite the abuse we get. Parents, if you can do better than your school, do so. If not, help us! Admin, if you can’t do anything but feed the party line or tote your own agenda, get out. There’s a job for you at the DMV. Teacher, hang tough. I know you feel like insanity is creeping up. I did. Keep at it if you can. If you are good one, find a school position that keeps you out of the firing line, be an anchor for others. Fr. Leo, you owe teachers an apology.

Get government out of the school systems and return schools to local (parental) control. As for lunches, all foods should be sourced from the local farmer's markets.

School is compulsory so parents are forced to send their kids to the schools and in my state not only do the restrain and seclude students they abuse the kids with it, especially when their young. A lot of kids will act out at school and not home. The schools need to train teachers to actually engage and understand i.e.p.'s better. But those kids that they hate are the last ones they try to help. Often the egg the kids into those behaviors in order to get a reaction and then force them out of school. Watched plenty of teachers use special Ed. Purposefully to ignore, abuse, ridicule kids. Most those kids already have separate classes and everything else
So this daycare argument is wrong and shows me a lot of ignorance on this actual topic. A lot of those teachers are lazy and ignorant in their teaching style too.
