Looking at this reminds me of the joy of physical games. Like when computer games were only sold in physical boxes in stores with manuals and everything. Used to enjoy opening it up and reading the manual.

It is an amazing looking game, and it really captures the feel of the original game. Based on our current plays it also have a really solid gameplay, at least for 2 player clash and solo campaign play.

Crazy that they managed to fit everything in a single box, or trunk! To have that out and on display for quick access would take up an entire bookshelf.
Yes it is an insane amounts of components in that big "trunk", and just the box alone take up 1,5 "Kallax" unit of top space.

For all of you HoMM3 fans (one of my favorite games of all time), check out Age of Wonders 4. It will give you that warm fuzzy nostalgic feeling. They're still developing (quality) DLC for it.
We agree, Age of Wonders is a fantastic game series trying to continue some of the nostalgia around the Heroes of Might and Magic game formula.

We actually discussed this after unboxing the game, and talked about how many hours we played this hot seat and later over IPX network back in our youth. It is an awesome game, and still is today, and this is a great adaption of it
looks well put together. I almost backed this, I was going to be all in until I saw more on the gameplay, and then decided it wasn’t for me. I instead went with Adventure Tactics as my big box game, and so far I’m not regretting it. I hope you do end up enjoying this though.
Until now we have enjoyed it, but nice to hear you actually did some research and then decided it wasn't for you. This is an awesome looking game, with solid gameplay, but it is mostly an very good 1 player solo game, 2 player "skirmish" game, and maybe 4 players in alliance mode (we haven't tried that yet)

At this point game designers are just making them as big as they can assuming people will just never play them.
It sometimes looks like it, though a lot of the big games are actually real solid gamewise. As of right now one of our favourite games is actually Otahsworn into the Deepwood, and is an even bigger box than HoMM 3, but it hits the table almost weekly. So if the game is good enough people will play them, the most important thing, at least for us, is the setup and teardown time.

This appears to be a "special edition" possibly from the kick starter campaign. Nice to see the extensive contents but limited availability as a complete set.
This is an special all-in one box also containing the KS exclusive items. We still need to wait to find out exactly what is going to retail.

I've always wanted to get into a board game with 9000 pieces and a 1200 page manual on how to play it, but I never had the time.
Interesting enough, most of the big games have dome of the smallest rulebooks. An interesting set of big games is are the ones with simple rules, where more rules is added through additional components as you progress. Oathsworn is an amazing game which uses this principle.

It takes up some table space, but actually a lot less than some other games. We have been able to play it comfortably 2 players on a extra folding table we use for recording. Also very soon another video will be published how to setup the game and this also shows the actual game footprint on table.

This is a special "Big Box" that was offered as part of the fufillment of the KS campaign, it wasn't part of the initial campaign.

You're pretty close, it captures the original feeling of waiting 2 hours for the other players to take their turns 😛 All jokes a side the game playes pretty fluid and takes around two hours for 2 players, not using the battlefield expansion

Yes it is, and then with the confirmation of three more of the factions already being designed for this game as well it just makes it incredible.
ofcource it fits when you dont punch anything. after punching try again. its a strange insert when it comes to all the small parts..
We have punched everything out and played the game several times. The worst part was the missing guide to how everything should be stored in the compartments (especially with sleeved cards), but after reaching out we got a pretty good idea of how to pack everything without any problems.

@@DadsGamingDK ye its my friends game but we had some trouble trying to fit all the punch stuff and not blend it allThe plastic chips also made it hard. Im no fan of the big all in one plastic inserts. Hard to get stuff out without either picking it one by one or tipping it all att once.

I will most likely split the game up between the game I am playing and leave the rest of the components in the original box. The fact that you cannot sleeve the cards and store them in the box makes using a seperate box necessary.
There is a lot of components such as the miniatures which is not used unless you play clash or alliance. On the topic of sleeved cards, it is possible to store all the cards sleeved in the box, you just have to use sleeves of 60 microns or less. We have all ours sleeved with sleeve kings.

When the KS campaign got its pledge manager launched, Archon Studio came out with an offer of either the individual boxes or one big box. Also the offered plan miniatures or pre-shaded miniatures.

Unfortunately this is a special edition with all the expansions from the KS campaign (minus Stronghold). So as of right now you can only buy the core game and the different faction expansion as individual boxes. But we hope to see a revised version of this box as the next three expansions are released.

It is an amazing looking game, and the price was fair compared to the size of the game and the amount of components. But again if you don't have the time to play it, then no game is worth the price.

How many weeks does it take to play this game?
Depends on what you're thinking of. For a single scenario 2 players is around 2 hours, same goes for solo. We don't have the experience for 3-4 player games, so can't give a valid time for that. If you're thinking of the whole campaign/campaigns it's quite hard to say. You have 5 mission books, with a total of 21 campaign missions, so given the average time we have experience until now, you're probably looking at around 42-50 hors of campaign.

It look amazing, both the box and the components. Luckily we already played in solo campaign and clash mode, Else it's hard to give an honest review.
I got mine. I sent an email to them to complain that their autographs ruined that black dragon picture. They should at least give another black dragon picture with no autographs. 🙂
We really loved the autographed picture, nice to have something a bit more unique as we have very little wall space to hang it on (Allowed to by wives) but yeah would have been nice with a plain version of the picture in addition

The rules is actually pretty straight forward, but to be honest the official rulebook is kind of a mess. Luckily the player community have made a revised version, which the developers at Archon Studio is looking into for an official updated version of the rules. As of right now it is not possible to buy the big box unless you can find someone who wants to sell their copy. But we don't know wheter this will come on market later or maybe as a Con only item.

Boardgames are getting massive do you honestly have time to complete them?
It depends a lot on the game, so an example of an even bigger game is Oathsworn, which we actually completed the first time in around 4 months. So if the gameplay is good and the game is fun, yes we complete it (and luckily most of our games are worth playing, the rest are in detention at the back of the cabinet)

@@luxinterna3370 As of right now the core game comes with Necropolis, Castle and Dungeon. The other factions have seperate expansions yes. Also the game has been translated to the following languages other than English, German, Polish, French, Spanish, Swedish and Czech

Soooooo, these guys can make all the artwork from scratch for some limited sales of a board game, but Ubisoft can't find the money to pay for a remake or even a proper remaster of the game and just upscales it...
Yeah seems odd, we know the guys at Archon spend a lot of time talking to Ubisoft to get permission to use the IP. Which then resulted in a rather successful KS campaign, maybe Ubisoft should try the same 😝😎
Looks pretty promising may even be as cool as warhammer pieces if painted. Shame Unisoft got the franchise and fucked it up. I own every single game of heroes series feels very sad when the series went downhill.
It is an Amazing looking game, though the miniatures are not as detailed as the ones Games Workshop produce for Warhammer. Yeah as we already wrote in another comment, HoMm3 is the last really good game in the series.

Think it might be due to problems upscaling the original drawings and 3D renders to the needed sizes, but it is interesting that they redid all the graphical elements. At least it is very close and true to the original artwork.

The big box has not gone into retail yet, so can't give an actual price for it. The KS campaign price was 180$ for the Big Box with Core Game, all Expansions an KS bonuses.

It is indeed a good adaption of the original game, focusing on making the game work, instead of trying to incorporate absolutely everything from the series. About the setup, its not the worst game to get tabled, and all players also have their own tiles to place as well as taking the role of the neutral mobs. This results in the game actually working pretty well for two players, without anyone having to take the role of a GM.

No doubt there was a much bigger player base back then, but it seems like a lot of people still remember the game and wants this adaptation for the nostalgia.
Oh.... if only there was a game with all the same mechanics and features, so there was no need to set all those fields and cards and miniatures ....

Well it has models for all the different creatures in the game, and most of them is nicely sculpted. Also the game doesn't really focus on the miniatures, they are mostly there for the full-out tactical combat experience brought in by the battlefield expansion.

Spend half a day for preparation….
Takes 20-30 minutes to prepare, same to teardown. Which is actually pretty okay for a game of this size.
Though it looks amazing, I think it's a complete overkill and unnecessary product. Some games are just better be left to PC. I can't imagine playing this behemoth with my friends over a beer as it looks like assembling and disassembling this behemoth takes longer than actual gaming. I guess who loses packs everything up?
Over the last 6 years, we have really discovered how much of a difference it makes meeting over a physical game, compared to playing together online. So yes the PC game i close to perfect, but this is a descent adaptation. Also about setup and tear down, we actually made a video about this czcams.com/video/TsmhFAmTM8c/video.html but to give you the answer, it takes around 20 min to setup and about the same to sort and pack up again.
@@DadsGamingDK I wholeheartedly agree on "meeting over the physical game" argument. My point is that I personally don't see a reason for a physical adaptation of a computer game. It just feels weird. I mean I get it when a tabletop game is so good that more and more people want to play it but maybe don't have time or company for a RL session and there needs to be a PC/console port. This however is a complete opposite thing and thus it feels strange. As for 20 minutes assembly - my god, and I thought arkham was tedious.

On seeing how you looked through that book at the start, you must not like books very much.
It is always hard to decide how much time to spent on paging through a book in a unboxing video. But rest assured the first thing we did after recording was actually just taking the art book and rulebooks into our cozy sofa and look through all the amazing pictures and start reading the rules.

Too bad the PC game art is totally trashy 3D render sprites. The single most reason I couldn't get into HOMM3 after HOMM2. The game looked terrible unit wise.
That period of 3do games all had those rendered 3d models, and yes the graphic was more rough due to this. But for this board game adaptation they have drawn new graphics inspired of the original unit design and it looks amazing.
