Trombone and trumpet with mute (cup), and clarinet, sound like a harmonica.
I was thinking cup mute, but looking closer it appears he is using a wah-wah. You can see him fanning with his left hand. I'm not positive, but a cup would be more mellow sounding.
It's a mute but not a cup mute, likely a Harmon Mute, that allows the wah-wah sound and is also known as a Wah-Wah. Miles Davis famously uses one., but yeah, between the Trumpet, Trombone and Clarinet, very harmonica sounding.
@@jpsother1183 I agree. I corrected my thought in another post. It's a harmon mute WITH plunger.... ergo wah-wah. Side note... I just had my trumpet anf fluegelhorn professionally cleaned and restored. I also JUST started actually PLAYING after decades (I stopped playing in about 1980). Never too old, right??

PMJ brought us Haley, Morgan James and many more wonderful vocalists.......Scott Bradlee, the pianist, does the arrangements ( this one's straight outta' Bourbon Street ) and the band is top notch ! Love the muted horns .......now, about that dress........

great reaction... haley reinhart really is jessica rabbit here... it's crazy how she completely embodies the music and new orleans "dirge" vintage time period so well in this sort of symbiotic relationship that is so authentic and rare. the band and arrangement are excellent but she really brings it to life. in addition to her unique stunning vocals, she even becomes another instrument towards the end with the relentless scatting. when i briefly met her last spring, i was surprised how petite and soft spoken she is in person with how big a presence she puts on stage... truly amazing

You should dive deep into 'Post Modern Jukebox & you'll find aa sorts of stuff.. I went & saw them several years ago, when they played Reno. A great show with tap-dancers, etc. Look up the cover they've done of 'All About THAT Bass' also
You should check out some of her American idol performances. I who have nothing and house of the rising sun were probably her best but she has a lot of great ones

The LA times music reviews said Haley took a dismal song (White Stripes) and made it worth listening too
The LA times is stupid. Anyone who can bash another artist that is for sure out of control talented beyond belief that EVERYONE knows and then say that someone eles is better. Is in no place to judge talent.
Its like saying someone who re did the sculpture of David and they said it was borning before someone did it better.
Granted i agree she made the song better. Anything saying the original was garbage is of no credit to speak on musical talent. Also anything from California at this point should be striken from historical records as Cali is a dumpster fire

Younger people have grown up with music made by machines & not REAL
INSTRUMENTS so they don't know what real instruments sound like. THEY HAVE BEEN CHEATED .
