I think the red chicken would look gorgeous with grey stripes and a neon beak.

I love the scarlet with the fire colorway!

I've jumped to making an Emotional Support Chicken of my mom's leftover yarn - will get back to this one soon, but the Fire colorway is going to be the main color. :)

grey or camo for the chicken stripes! A red chicken with grey or camo stripes would also be fun =) Thanks for sharing your joy of knitting and your joy of plotting/planning - love your spreadsheets!

I like the gray with the fire yarn for the chicken.

I vote scarlet for the stripes-they’ll vibrate against the more orange color and add interest

I'm wondering if I made the tail red.....thinking still about laying it all out. :)

I like the cameo for the stripes on your chicken, gray is my second choice.

The camo was my first thought, but I'm leaning towards the gray - sort of ash with the fire color. :)

I'd love to see a video on how you do the 3-needle bind-off on your chicken. I gave it a go on my first chicken (I've done 2 so far 😉) and found it quite fiddly, although it does look nice and neat. I did a regular 3-needle bind-off for my second one and don't like it as much. I also found it difficult to seam the rest of the chicken together neatly, especially the tail sections.
My vote would be the camo yarn, second choice the grey.

The 3 needle bind off is definitely a little fiddly, but it went smoother when I just focused on pulling the yarn through in 2 steps rather than 1, but I'll video it to show what I'm talking about as well as how I seam it.
My original preference was the camo also, but kind of leaning grey to go with the fire theme perhaps. I can't quite make up my mind yet, lol. :)

I would probably pick camo, but all of them would make interesting chickens 🐔 love your patriotic chicken!

For the chicken I vote use the ash grey with the fiery colours.
I'm sitting here knitting on a cardi atm rather than my Slipstravaganza blanket. I too suffer from sleeve island, despite being similar to knitting a sock which I have no trouble with (no second sock syndrome here). I'm knitting on the body right now. It got suggested to me to do the sleeves before finishing the body to avoid turning a full project. Part of what might cause the sleeve island setting. But to me the bodice alone is enough to have to turn and I don't want to put the body stitches on hold when I can finish it and get it off the needles.
Like you I prefer to knit in the round rather than do magic loop for small diameter needles. I like a bit of length on fatter needles though. There seems to be a kind of ratio that seems to work for me, which can be a problem when deciding what to use for sleeves. If a short needle in the round is not comfortable I generally revert to DPNs as I have found myself being a klutz at snagging a magic loop loop off the needles. I'm considering trying out using 3 short needles for my sleeves, like some people use trios for socks (which I don't prefer). It might work well for sleeves on bigger needles.
My blanket is a lot slower going now and not all to do with the knitting. The knitting is pretty easy but it has gotten to that awkward stage for sure. The Slipstravaganza blanket requires 185 stitch markers. I do not have that many and made use of all of what I had plus tied yarn and used substitute things as well. I've got a myriad of things hanging on. I decided not to buy more as I'm unlikely to need that many again, but I'm really wanting to finish the blanket so I can reclaim the stitch markers I like to use towards knitting new projects.
I got to the almost 60% mark really quickly before things suddenly started to take longer. I enjoyed knitting all the bubble rows and they are all the same. I did the next part after that quite quickly too. It wasn't a great deal of border after all those bobble rounds. Then I got to the triangles. I found they knit up quick. It's a part where it is easy to see each triangle can be a point to take a break from and get back to the project and know exactly where you are in the knitting. I'd got about 10 done and felt sure I'd finish the blanket quite quickly having come this far already. Then I realised there are 46 of them. I got an inkling of how that border was going to hurt (I've already done the shawl and had a taste of the chevrons already giving me a good idea).
I got the triangles done then battled my way around, putting all the stitch markers on and doing increases and then increases and decreases knitting up and down. Things slowed down. I leave it in a particular knitting spot now where it won't get disturbed in a manner that might cause stitches to drop of the needle. It's much too awkward to cart around and possibly let slip of my lap atm which is one thing that has caused a drop in progress. I originally wanted to do 1% or more every knitting session on it and sometimes did up to 5%. But it is much too awkward now. Those rows are long and I battle to do one row, which is less than 1%. As much as leaving it in its own spot reduces my time on it, it is more awkward to knit with all the stitch markers, the increases and decreases slowing the knitting and shunting the stitches around such a long row on the project. I can see why people decide to cast off early. I'm not going to. I'm plodding along. I've even marked quarter points in the row with special markers to keep me motivated.
I love seeing your progress on your projects. I appreciate you keeping an up to date Ravelry record too. Ravelry is so useful.

I had to laugh about second sock syndrome - I never have the problem either - I either do them in tandem, or one right after the other with no hesitation. Love knitting socks! I know some folks have gotten to really like the flexiflip type of double pointed needles, and that might be a good sleeve option too. I'm patiently waiting for my pairs of circulars, lol.
When I originally made the spreadsheet for the Slipstravaganza blanket, it was amazing to see that the last section will take the last 5 months of the year on my daily budget! Will be interesting to see. Curious about how it will feel to manage the work and that number of stitches at that point! Hope it starts feeling a bit easier for you with time, but it may end up as a slog for both of us - but the end result will be worth it! :)

      @nefraial Před 4 měsíci +1

I don't think the knitting is going to feel better from this point. Doing the edge is an uncomfortable knit, but I am making time to sit with my blanket and attempt to do a row a day. Which means it might be a month or more to get it done if I keep this up considering the number of rows left, then a 1656 stitch i-cord bind off. I've gotten to the stripe that according to your spreadsheet means I've reached the 75% point and I'm not quite getting my head around the fact this means I've still got a quarter of the blanket to go. Looking at a thin stripe doesn't seem to sit right with that. But it is a long way around.
But, as I've said before, I'm not quitting early. I'm going to plod through the chevron border and then do a 2 colour i-cord bind off. I won't be happy with myself if I cast off early. I'm doing this project mostly to be occupied by some mindless knitting at times that don't favour doing anything else. Plus the goals I set for myself to get parts done are self-imposed and arbitrary. I can change timeframes and goals as I go when I feel the need. My knitting is not a job so if I miss a day or things take longer then it just does. I should not feel bad about that but ok that I have these incentives in place that do keep me from hibernating things at the less enjoyable parts.

@@nefraial For me setting goals like this is about fun, playing around and making knitting even more fun. I think at that point in my spreadsheet it allows 3+ days per row with 1656 stitches per row! And a week for the i-cord bind off. Such a massive project! I think it really gets to that boundary between process and product knitting for sustaining interest. :)

@@theyarnrandomizer Totally agree. Having fun setting piecemeal achievements is what keeps the motivation going through what can be the tougher spots. I've been playing around with my variety of stitch markers and other things subbing as such. I've got groups of things so I can have fun reaching, for example the group of blue ones before the metal ones towards the strings etc.. I've also marked off places with odd markers. For the 46 triangles I've marked the first as part of the beginning, as that is usually when most enthused to start a new round. Then I've got similar ones marking after every 5 triangles enabling me to count out 9 segments. But I've also got them at every 9 to marks 5's and markers at the roughly quarter markers, 12,11,12,11 which breaks everything up in such a way as I can pick and choose which I'm going to follow and even change it if I desire. This has made things progress not just for the fun of it but as it allows me to know how many I have left in the row. Where not knowing may have led me to put it down earlier I've often gone on a bit for knowing such like "there's only 4 more triangles till I finish the row" or "two more triangles will get me to that marker" etc..

i just came across your channel. Just subscribed. Please oh please do the video on the emotional support chicken. I've watched the tutorial at lease a half a dozen times but still cannot get the feather seam correct and am not happy with the stitching up the chicken itself. Thank you
