Playing this on on the PSP back in 2005 was just mind blowing, I don't think I've ever been blown away from any sort of handheld tech as much as the PSP back in the day!
Great video man. I really liked the comparison with the phone. There's just something refreshing about clean textures on the phone. But mega love for the OG PSP and PS2. They still got it.

This was my first ever GTA game, I've got it on PSP & it was one of my favourite games up there with Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition, Vice City Stories, Daxter, Star Wars The Force Unleashed, Crash Tag Team Racing, MotorStorm & Gran Turismo. I never made it to the third city but I'm playing it again on my phone & wow does it bring back memories.
PSP version - best! Back in 2004.Because it was full experience GTA in my pocket.

In the PS2 version, the widescreen format looks slightly distorted (compressed horizontally). Best way to play it on PS2 is in 4/3 (not widescreen). I guess for the widescreen format, they took the PSP image, which is likely a little wider than 16/9, and directly fitted it in 16/9, which could explain the compression.
Some guy recreated this game with the vice city engine on pc and its called RE LCS. It runs extremely well and sometimes feels like an official pc port.
Ahhh yes my first GTA game that I played! It was so cool playing this game on my PSP. I still can’t remember what happened to my PSP. I kinda miss it.😞

Great comparison thank you. Although I wish you directly compared texture and models to see if there was a difference. The mistake others make when comparing is they play the psp version on the psp and the ps2 version on a ps2 hooked up to a 1080p hd tv with composite cables, so of course it looks worse. The ps2 should be hooked up with component cables to a good tube tv for best results. Emulation works fine aswell.
I think he does have it hooked up with component. I'm sure composite would have looked way worse than in the video

I think you confuse "definition" with "image quality". The mobile version has a better definition but overall the PS2 version has the best image quality (taking into account draw distance, lightning, color contrast, etc.). The only problem with the PS2 version is that it is too dark, which can be adjusted on the TV set.

There's PC port that uses Vice City as base. It has all the main story missions, almost all the side missions, options to enable or disable trails and reflections. All the radio stations etc... It's a really well done job. To install it is very easy, you just download it and install it in an empty folder. A lot of modders worked at it, including ThirteenAG, the author of Widescreen Fix for many games. On the website where you download it there are also links to better textures. It's called something like "liberty city stories remake". Rn it is in beta 5. It's really well done

Ryadica Cahya made a PC version of GTA LCS. It's a mod of Vice City and you won't need to download Vice City seperatley.

Well mobile is only 6 bucks, not a bad way to go if you need to play it while waiting in a long line or something. but if you want to enjoy it from your home. Then ps2 all the way

Renderware isn't a company. It's a game engine developed by Criterion Games, the developers of the Burnout games and some Need for Speed titles. The last time Renderware was used was in Burnout Paradise in 2008, or Burnout Paradise Remastered in 2018 if you want to get specific.

I literally just bought this game 2 weeks ago on PSP, at my local swap meet for a whole buck! It was brand new, and even had a Circuit City sticker on it! I remember having it back in '05!

0:30 I know this is an old video, but this is incorrect. You were almost right. Both LCS and VCS still use Renderware, the imagemetrics is for face textures only. The entire rest of the engine, is still the same as the console versions.

4:01 i can tell you why it looks cellshaded
It's because if you are a modder and can possibly open iso, img and txd then you will discover that there is no texture for the car's body, only for exoskeleton, car engine, saloon , lights, taxi symbol and maybe wheels

My first GTA I actually owned and it was good. But after getting San Andreas... It was hard to get back to LCS.
I had this game on my ps2 what a great moments, it was also looking nice game when I first saw this game on ps2.
The mobile version looks good for a remaster. I wonder how many new glitches there are on there though since remasters usually have new glitches in them.

mobile is 60fps and 30fps. Depends on the device. I don't like to talk about fps because I can't capture fps from consoles. It's very difficult and I haven't a clue how to do it

The PSP version running on the psp 1000 oled looks insane, you can also buy that version digitally on psn like I did!

Wow, I never thought the psp graphics looked so bad. Guess that I hadn’t seen anything that looked better back then.
One issue with digital port is games are very laggy.
GTA Trilogy, Bully, Manhunt etc are all laggy.
They drop way below 30 fps.
PS2 has this nice blue filter on the image. My preferable version.
What company developed the mobile port? In my opinion they did a great work, everything looks much better.

You forgot to mention the icons on the radar look different in mobile and weapons hud were remade from gta 3 textures.
It's impressive to see what rockstar could do with the psp hardware I just wish they used the ps2 port as an option on the psvita but sadly you can only use the psp version which is great but the vita had a second stick. Anyway great video man and what's the next side by side

You forgot they got upgrades on ps3 same with gta3 and vice city. They ended up getting the 16x9 aspect ratio and also upscaling as well too 1080p on both ps3 and ps4.

I'm anti hacks and cheats. Well at first. I will always beat a game legit first, then you can have fun with cheats

At 1:26, which platform is the GTA 3? The graphic looks much better than the one at 1:25? I'm planning to purchase one more GTA game from PlayStore, which one do you recommend between GTA 3 and Liberty City? I've purchased GTA SA & VC, just finished SA and will start to play VC soon.
It's Pc version but uses some graphical mods. (Silent patch, etc...)
There is a pc mod of GTA LCS, which is ported to VC, called GTA RE:LCS. Mod looks great, has few improvements, like graphics, quality etc and It's still in progress. Has more missions than SA version, It also almost feels like a true PC version, without the free camera though, and probably will be finished this year. It's out now for testing, missions are like on two islands only.
In assets the mobile version is almost another game: textures, modelss, geometry... the comparison with the PSP and PS2 do not make so much sense.

The taxi in the mobile version is a beta model from GTA 3. No idea why they used it for the mobile version. My guess is Rockstar Leeds had a laid of assets available to them and they just threw that in without a care
The Mobile port was developed by Lucid, not Rockstar Leeds.

I’m surprised you didn’t say anything about the frame rate
The Ps2 version has the worst frame rate I’ve ever seen, like at some moments the game will go at normal speed but when in a gunfight, during rainy weather, or even when just driving around in normal traffic, everything just goes so damn slow. The slowness even applies to the cutscenes
I mean hell look at the PSP and the mobile, the frame rate is running perfectly
There really should be no reason why the frame rate can’t run at full speed on the PS2 port because all the other GTA’s on that console run great

Even though the mobile version is sharper, the textures on PS2 are way more detailed, even if blurry. Which sounds weird, but I'm referring to how the textures in the mobile version seem simplified and bland. - Look at the roads and stuff. The PS2 version seems like a fleshed out game, but the mobile version looks like a later game that wasn't finished. Effectively making it look cheaper. In fact, the mobile version just looks like a cheap knock-off... It basically is... Just a remade with a more modern engine but very basic graphics, as if that would be "the same" as the original.

Well, mobile can't be compared. Because different phones, tabs has different settings. I've got iPad 4 and draw distance is far enough, more than in PS2 and PSP versions for sure. I setted iPad Air 2 settings to my GTA LCS and now it has best graphics so far possible with this game.
I love this game so much, too bad not many people know of it due to it being overshadowed by San Andreas.

I have it for PS2 and I love it. I bought it a few months ago for the mobile and I finished it 100% for the first time!
Sad that Rockstar might never give it a proper remaster for the PC, with multiplayer, that would be great.

cover the gta re lcs pc port by ryadica he ported the whole game and it plays very well i played thru the whole game
After playing on mobile, I feel like they took the PSP version and upgraded it instead of the PS2 one. I have a One Plus 7 pro and loading between the island still takes at least 3 seconds.
The mobile has upscaled textures but looks cartoonish and washout

there is a mod for vice city called RE: Liberty City stories which ports majority it way better

GTA Liberty City Stories for Mobile is kinda like GTA 3 Mobile, the graphics are the same to me.
On PSP can you move the camera because it doesn't have 2nd Joystick
