Brilliant. Another hidden gem. Hi from the UK.
So cool! Never would have imagined seeing a suspension and a wooden trestle bridge still remaining inside a city!
Most underrated adventure channel on CZcams ❤
❤
In one word. Beautiful ❤️
Galloping Gary! There you are!
Thank you, so much for this video! Please oh please do more San Diego.
My friends and I used to go to the Spruce Street suspension bridge and hangout and drink. Good times...
Groovy bridge man.
I've gone across both bridges! I discovered them as part of a self-guided walk starting in Hillcrest. They're also both part of this local hike called the Balboa Park 7 Bridges Hike, which starts and ends at Balboa Park. I did that one with a friend one day. It was pretty cool!
There are 7 footbridges/suspension bridges in Hillcrest/Banker's Hill in San Diego. And you can walk the m all in one day.
Hillcrest is an amazing old neighborhood.
Lol “OO” I’m a native and have never experienced these marvelous engineering wonders 💜💜 Thank you for sharing ✌️🩵 : ) Jesse
Happy to share, Jesse! I (Beth) lived in San Diego for several years and never visited the Suspension Bridge or Fallen Star (one of our recent episodes) until after moving away, so it happens! :)
Finally an oddity odyssey location we’ve visited before !! Awesome
I grew up a block away for 32 years. So many memories growing up to do with that bridge we called “the wiggly bridge”
Hello Bethany, Drew, and CZcams friends.
Love architectural always, learned in mid school and made a suspension bridge model! Thank you love your channel, love to learn and you make it fun!
Take care, be safe, enjoy life and peace out!
I live in Peterborough, Ontario now.
There are numerous biking and hiking trails carved out of the numerous abandoned rail lines that used to pass through the city over the last 150 years (Most of them went bankrupt pretty quick).
One of the big trails is the TransCanada trail (yep, a hiking and biking trail that actually goes coast to coast across Canada) which literally runs by my backyard.
There are numerous former railway bridges crossing the Otonabee river most of which are trestle bridges and have been modernized for bicycles and Hikers.
One of our favourites through, is the "Double Trestle Bridge" on The trail not far from the village of Omemee off of Orange Corners Road. It doesn't cross the river, but gap between two drumlins.
People come from Toronto (an hour-and-half drive to the south west) just to walk along the trail to the bridge.
If you're really enthusiastic you can bicycle or hike to it from Peterborough, along the TransCanada Trail.
Those bridges are pretty cool. It would be awesome to live in the neighborhood and have a bridge in your backyard.
It’s called locally the “7 Bridges Hike”. I like stopping in Hillcrest for breakfast (Hash House A Go Go, Crest Cafe or Breakfast Bitch.) Start at Ba;boa Park at the bridge that heads to the Rose Garden, and end crossing the Laurel Street Bridge.
I did maintenance for many years on all of these bridges, it was interesting every time. There are others that you missed, but maybe next time.
Super cool!
A pair of interesting oddities this time! Thanks, Drew and Bethany! 👍👍 Love your channel. ❤
Thanks, Noah! Hope you're having a great start to the month of June. 😊❤
Great find!!! 👍🏻😷👍🏿🇨🇦🇵🇭🇺🇲
I used to ride my bike across the Spruce St. bridge en route to Trader Joe’s in Hillcrest. Really nice neighborhood on the west side of the bridge.
Awesome.
Another fun and awesome vid.
OK, the first one I'd probably be ok with, but the second one, oh hell no lol I was having a panic attack and I wasn't even there haha 🤭
Hahaha...it causes the nerves to come out for sure!
@@OddityOdysseys I was like oh no, nope, OMG haha 😂😆😂
I am from San Diego and I have never heard of either of these bridges. It was not where I was a lad, but I thought that I knew San Diego pretty well.
Love it!
In Germany there is a similiar bridge contructed in 1901 over a river. This year it had to be blocked and it is uncertain that it can be repaired - to much damage by corrosion. Bridges are a very sad story in Gemany, thousands (!) are in a very bad situation and need urgent repair or rebuilt. Home made problem, no repairs done for decades to save money.
Oh i need to go there too!
Wes Watson holds the keys to both.
I was stationed in around San Diego from 91-95 and thought I had visited most of the cool sights at the time. I don't know how I missed the bridges. Great channel by the way. Have ever heard of the antique gas and steam engine museum in Vista? I wonder if it's still there?
Thanks!
You are incredible and so, so generous. This means the world to us, thank you so much! ❤
@@OddityOdysseys Thank you for your kind message💜🧡 ✌️ My Best Wishes
: ) Jesse
I take my lunch break here every week. There is hardly ever any traffic right near there and lots of people check it out. You stay classy San Diego.
reminds me of that one scene in Indiana Jones Temple of Doom lol
About 25 Years ago on a family vacation we went to royal gorge and crossed that suspicion bridge it was truly scary at that age
I loved it fam you are the best ❤
Thanks, fam!
very beautiful place!
Indeed!
Used to live in SD, in Chula Vista specifically. The Spruce St. suspension bridge is near and dear to my heart. This is where I proposed to my then girlfriend. Just imagine, I already have a fear of heights and then having to make sure I dont drop the ring and then hoping that she would say yes. Lol. Good times! 😂🤣😂🤣
Oh, wow, that's awesome!
loved it
Nice. The sway of a suspension bridge usually scares people, but it's part of the design.
You guys are great I have been to San Diego two time and never heard of the bridge
I love being able to see and touch history. Let’s hope they never come up with an excuse to remove either of the two treasures. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, we hope these bridges (& others) in San Diego remain around for a long, long time!
The scariest I walked across is the Royal Gorge Bridge over the Arkansas River in Colorado. I was 11 or 12
It was an interesting and unusual video as usual. Thanks a lot guys!¡! ❤😂❤😂.
Suspension bridges are cool--seeing one always brings back the childhood memory of the one on Tom Sawyer's Island in Disneyland. As a San Diego native I'm a little ashamed to admit that I've never been to either one of those. Living in San Jose, they're bridges too far (movie pun) to do today, but I'll definitely do them the next time I'm down there.
Say Spruce Street Suspension 10 times fast! Great episode.
Glad to see these bridges are still around and maintained. I lived near one end of the Quince St bridge in the 70s and used it to walk to see friends. It was a little scary alone at night, but otherwise really cool. I was too afraid of heights to do Spruce St. Quince was a challenge but shorter than walking around. Guess it's still a well kept secret.
If you ever go to Vancouver British Columbia I recommend the Capilano Suspension Bridge. I have a fear of heights too but have done it several times. Well worth it. Great video. I want to check Spruce out my next CA visit.
Dude-dudette I don't think you've seen scary yet. Where I grew up we had vine bridges over raging rivers, one of the more more modern bridges had steel cables, cross ties and a single plank to walk on... oh and the single handrail was a stand of barbed wire!
We would wait until no one was around to cross, even so our own footfall would cause the plank to slap up and hit the other foot as it came down. Very difficult to stay balanced.
Regardless; nice coverage of very old bridges still in use.
there are seven bridges of note in that part of San Diego.
Awesome video. Kind of interesting I am afraid of heights, but something like that wouldn't bother me like standing on a stepstool replacing a lightbulb.
Gotta get there and Rick the bridge
Suspension Bridges are always so creepy. Adding this to my list when I visit my sister in San Diego. We usually just go to Coronado. I have so places to go now with your most recent videos. The history you give really adds to the story. This is a fun video.
Do you have any plans to visit her soon? Yes, they are creepy! Happy Saturday, friend.
@@OddityOdysseys We are hoping in Aug or maybe Christmas time. So I’m taking notes with all these adventures. I always show my sister who just moved there.
❤ I love things that last. I wouldn’t be happy with Drew rocking the boat though…..LOL. Thanks for the video. Just curious, who does the filming of the long shots for you?
We do all the filming ourselves- If there's a long shot, we've set that up beforehand. :)
@@OddityOdysseys You do a great job
@@blockisle9 Thank you! Yeah, sometimes it does require a little running back and forth, haha, but always worth it!
So many hilly towns needs these. Sad to hear there is a time frame
I was kinda hoping you’d do Coronado Island :( i heard stories about it being haunted
Enjoying these videos guys 😊 Who is the artist music accompanying your video today? Thanks so much 🙏
You guys rule
are you guys planning to move to SD?

This gave me anxiety
G`morning O.O.

Happy Saturday
No love for Orange County :(
Easy to jump off of. Wonder if anyone has.
Nice🌉
Most underrated adventure channel on CZcams ❤
There are 5 more bridges around there. Google the 7 bridges walk in San Diego for a really nice day of walking.
Great suggestion, thank you! Alas, we learned of the rest of the bridges after we left the area but would love to check them all out next time we're back in town. 😊
