    Outdoor Research may not be as well known as a brand compared to Arcteryx, North Face, or Patagonia. However the quality is excellent and the price is very affordable

    I bought a Columbia powder lite jacket last winter. I liked it for a while, lightweight but fairly warm with some layers. But then within three months, the low quality zippers on each of the two side pockets got stuck and I was never able to get the zippers usable again. And then a few months after that the main front zipper got stuck and then ripped off. I find so often that companies purportedly selling "premium" outdoor gear go way too cheap on certain aspects, especially cheap zippers.

      They have flimsy shells and their tailoring leaves a lot to be desired. I have older stuff by them and quality has gone down hill since then

    I’ve had/used/abused quite a few jackets in my 6-decades of life on several continents! THE BEST jacket for moderate-to-seriously COLD Weather is the REI Stormhenge Hooded 850-fill Down WITH 2-Layer GoreTex. Yes, you read that right, a SERIOUS 850-Fill Down ‘WITH’ a Waterproof Outer layer..!!! It’s even made with extra space in the belly area for American Men, who love Dark Ales!😎 I had the Mountain Hardware hooded 650-fill Down Sub Zero Parka - it has a DWR finish, but isn’t waterproof (I still have it, but my son seems to have commandeered it for the foreseeable future, which is cool!). Since it’s Damned Near IMPOSSIBLE to find a Great Down Jacket/Parka ‘WITH’ a GoreTex [even though it’s just 2-layer & not 3!] Outer layer, that makes this REI Stormhenge THE BEST…PERIOD! Dude, you didn’t even give this an “Honorable Mention,” what gives..???🇺🇸

    The video assumes dry snowy cold. The British winter typically is very very humid and a synthetic fill is surely a lot better? I’ve a Rab Cirrus HL recycled. Lightweight, warm and packs reasonably small.

    What about Decathlon Forclaz down jacket?

    Good fill power and weight fill too with a price that’s better than all I’ve seen

    Great video and I want to get a good jacket for the Canadian Winter (I am not an outdoor person) and the jacket is for the regular use from home to malls etc. What will be your choice between Thorium AR vs Patagonia Down Jacket

    • @goOutdoorZone
      @goOutdoorZone  Před 2 lety +1

      Both are good choice! However, Thorium AR will be expensive. But it's a better investment. You can also go for Patagonia Down Jacket if you want to save some bucks.

    I would recommend to buy a very packable light jacket 800 fill down. Go for the cheapest you can find and buy two. Then you can buy a second jacket with a slightly larger size. Always carry a change of shirt with you.

  • @danielflaherty1661

    You missed a number of cottage industry jackets. Western Mountaineering and ZPacks to name a few. There are now 1000 down jackets that you don’t even mention and in light of the current number of high down rating jackets I don’t think that anything below an 850 jacket without a hood should even make the list. You also fail to mention weight, which likewise should be key to your list. As previously mentioned you have left out LLBean and Eddie Bauer, which have tall sizes for those who are not height challenged. Perhaps another try with more current levels of warmth might be advised.

      @@ork_oz i use my thorium on a daily basis but i do occasionally notice an extremely minor ammount of feather losage in the stitching which is annoying, i don't think it will survive in the long run

    Why have a narrator with a thick accent who speaks too quickly? At times I couldn't understand what he was saying, and I have very acute hearing. A native English speaker would be a better choice.

      Sounds like a beginner English student who received some compliments about their English, so he decided he would speak faster by only pronouncing the stressed syllables.
