If you don’t mind, I’d like to add to something STATESIDE mentioned in his video about shopping around. I build a matrix with the names of the sellers down the left-hand side (including LCS ) and the type of coin(s) I’m looking to buy across the top of the matrix. I then go to their websites (And as well eBay) where the LCS may be selling the same item and start filling the matrix in with the prices of the specific coins they’re selling that I’m looking for. It’s a great visual and helps put things in perspective.

Great point you make about taking an additional 5 mins to check out a variety of places. You might save 30 or 40 bucks on your order just by comparing listed prices online with Hero Bullion, SD Bullion, Apmex, Monument Metals, etc. and it would literally take a couple of minutes. Not only can this save you a ton of money sometimes, but you can also determine if the dealer doesn’t ship for weeks, or doesn’t disclose their offer is just for ‘secondary market’ coins, etc. Reviews will bring many of these things to light. I never wanted to buy anything from eBay, however I took a chance recently and bought three items from three different sellers (a couple hundred $ from each) because the standard well-known dealers didn’t have what I needed, and they were all shipped promptly, packaged extremely well, were easily tracked during shipment and arrived quickly.

if you do not mind I will add a few things I learned over 58 years of stacking. never buy hand poured bars, lots of dealers do not want them. buy bars and rounds no larger then a kilo, once again some dealers will not buy them. I have been to lots of major shows, central states, fun, money show and so on and watch dealer turn down 100 oz bars or offer a lower price for them. also with 90% silver buy merc's, walkers, franklins, barbers and standing liberty quarters. the problem with washington quarter, roosevelt and kennedy halfs is all of these have silver and non silver versions. if using 90% for barter non coin people get these mixed up but everyone see's a walker or merc is different. also do not count out auctions as a place to buy silver. local auctions, hi bid and even ebay are a great place to buy. know I will here from some that you can not trust ebay sellers. if this is so why does sd bullion, apmex, scottsdale siver. pinehurst, and many others sell on ebay? jim

@@__Ryan_ thank you. I started stacking at age 7 in 1967. it was easy back then, you just went to the bank an pull out the older halves from the rolls. back then we did not keep the 40% kennedy's. I trapped muskrats for the fur and when I sold them all the currency I got for the hides went into silver and some gold. fun times. jim

@@user-kv7gt4rc8mI got lucky and my dad sold me my grandfathers Morgan’s and peace dollars for spot price a few years ago. They had wayyyy more and cashed them in at LCS, this was before I was into coins or I would have bought them. I really like the Morgan’s- holding something from the 1800’s is just amazing. All the hands that coin has been in, all that history is just mind blowing and I’m here in 2024 holding it in my hand!

Great info! I just started stacking 5 months ago, at the age of 48, and I've already made a few mistakes. Primarily buying rounds from big box online stores with a slight higher premium but learned real quick that when you sell them to a LCS that they could care less about that premium.
I switched over to Constitutional Silver. I like having the chance to cherry-pick and build sets.

I agree 100% with using reputable dealers ONLY if shopping on line. As for the LCS's, I'm lucky that the 3 that I frequent are all local and each have a different vibe and favor selling/buying different stuff. They each price a bit different also. You are so right about establishing relationships with the LCS operators/owners. It will pay off many times over. Yes, yes, yes..., stay out of pawn shops for either buying or selling. Darn, you've always got dream stuff laying around. Especially them libertads.

It's called "junk silver" by some folks because it has little to no *numismatic* value, not because it isn't worth anything or because no one wants it--quite the opposite, actually. Some of us buy all we can get our hands on.

Great video 👍. There’s a difference between stacking and collecting. When stacking I look for the absolute lowest premium for the coin or bar I’m interested in. Fortunately, my LCS has always matched or done better than online pricing and I avoid shipping costs I may have incurred on smaller purchases. Any high premium silver should be considered collecting since it’s not something easily liquidated for more than spot in an emergency. I consider my high premium coins more like pieces of art than a precious metal commodity.

As oldone58 said, Thank you for your service! As for silver, I've always preferred silver over other metals but only had it in jewelry and junk silver (coins and household items). So when I decided to start stacking it, I spent a year researching my options and deciding what "I" wanted.
I don't buy or stack for dollar value. I buy for shtf. I wont go into the dollar and empire collapse because that's not really my concern. But that is a big reason why buying anything just because its a denominational coin doesn't make much sense to me. IMO you should just buy what you like! Cause when shtf, no ones going to care if it says made by a gubment mint or poured in some dudes garage. Personally, I hate poured crap unless its by some dude in his garage. Mint pours just seem extremely lazy to me for a "Mint". I have a SD Bullion 5oz poured bar and I HATE it! I bought their "at spot deal" for new customers and didn't realize a poured bar was going to be sent and still ended up way over spot on it. So I wont buy any "deals" unless its only from a LCS but those can use more money too just using gas to get there. And F*#K Pawn shops for anything! They are all scammers! lol!

Hey Stateside, I’d also like to add another option I personally use to buy PM. I buy off different ppl off FB groups that were specifically created for this purpose. Having said that, of course you have to be careful whom you’re buying from. And purchase only from reputable dealers. They will usually have a dealer rating attached to their name. This is very important as there are scammers out there. But you can definitely get good deals if you’re smart. Great video as usual. Arty from Australia
