Extreme Range Test | DJI Mini 2 (4K)

- Hey! Today I am doing something crazy. Going as far as possible without returning home. During the recording it was around 8° Celsius and a little tail wind. If you have any other tests you want me to do, comment below and there is a chance I will try it.
This is recorded with DJI Mavic Mini 2 in 4K at 30fps. I have used auto settings to record all of the footage. There is no filter or color correction added to the video. Everything you see is directly from the drone.

When I saw that hawk I got chills lol Luckily the mini doesn't seem to upset them much but larger drones they normally attack! Another good thing about the Mini 2. Great footage!

nahezu can just use GPS on the DJI fly app to locate it easy!

Congratulations for your amazing range test. Very nice test. It seems that this drone has intelligency and was impressive how after running out of battery he land in the middle of the garden without hitting any tree.
it has under sensor right
it not hitting a tree was just pure luck, the drone doesnt have obstacle avoidance.

@@Matanumi it does but it doesn’t use those sensors to avoid obstacles it just senses where the ground is so it can slow down/abort landing if the ground isnnt suitable

That was a serious range test, Kudos to you! I'm quite surprise that it was able to reach that far, the Drone range i think is limited to CE range(CE mark restriction) and would be shorter than 10km. The FCC variant has a stronger signal thus can do further distance. anyway what a great way to illustrate the range of this drone.
I am surprised if I have a FCC variant because I bought this in a Swedish store. They are supposed to be CE.
Yes your drone is CE mode when i see your transmission the line is in 1km, if FCC mode the line is under 1km
Nice flight. I noticed that you didn’t use the compass in the corner of your map screen to help you keep your RC Controller pointed in the same direction as the drone. You might have had less interference. But either way still a nice flight I wish I had an area as flat and open as you were flying in.

Great flight and showcase of this drone. I’m about to get my first serious one and it’s between this and the Air 2S, however this footage is more than perfect enough and the big plus, aside from Mini 2’s price, is that the size doesn’t require registration. Just hoping DJI doesn’t release a Mini 3 too soon thereafter.
The Mini3 will probably get a front facing sensor, not much else of consequence to be honest with you. They will not upgrade the camera I don't think as it is already 4k and they don't want to cannibalize the Air2 sales. The significant upgrade to the Mini2 from the original Mavic Mini was the inclusion of Ocusync2.0 which made it a spectacular drone in my opinion. I rushed and bought the original Mavic Mini, it was horrible, no wind resistance and signal would get choppy at 300-400m in urban settings. So, back to the potential of the Mini3; If I am correct and its only the addition of a front facing sensor, just buy the Mini2 now. People think 'sensors' are important, they really are not. In order to get some range out of the drone one must fly it at altitude (50m+), what is there to hit up there that would make sensors useful?

I got a adrenaline rush watching this video...well done. Question: how did you find your drone, did you have enough battery power left to use "find my drone"?
I've seen a lot of videos with an indicator at the bottom of the live feed from the drone where it shows the drone's direction and it's position, so you know where to turn to look directly at it for the best connection.
Curiously, it does not show up on my display and I don't see it in your mobile phone footage either.
Can anyone tell me, where I can turn that on or off? I haven't found it in the settings.

That's a great bit of distance. How so far ? Did you use range extenders. Or hack? Great vid!

Realistically how much line of sight do you need to have to reach X distance? That is, if I am flying in a town and send it a few hundred meters away but can’t see it or am blocked by houses and trees, should I be worried?
I just got mine and even though I know it can do remarkable things I am constantly afraid even to send it 200M away where I can’t see it

Hi great video, what firmware are you running with the drone and controller in the test?
I ask this because my mini 2 does a far less distance than yours with video freeze or lag about 200 meters out?

Hey, unfortunately I don't know since this is a year ago and I have updated and used my drone since.
That's weird, the drone should work perfectly within 2 km as long as there is no obstacles or buildings between the controller and the drone.
Mines the same only about 200m but I think becuse im in uk they are restricted

I'm holding my fingers. No not at all actually, I have crashed two times but repaired the cover without any issues. Still works with no problems! 😊

I am just wondering why did you set your home point while it was in flight or was it a mistake?
It was a mistake that I did it in someone's yard, yes. But setting the home point was not a mistake. If I would have not set the home point. The drone would have tried to go back to the last home point when I lost connection with the drone. I did not want that to happen, I wanted to have a safety measure.

Thats a great range test. I haven't been to far with mine, but not scared to do about anything with it. The mini 2 I probably the best drone out there for the money. I have a mavic air and I like it, but the mini 2 is definitely better. Glad you got it back.
Yeah, this is just occasionally, not doing this everyday. Better to be safe and fly within range. It's the best. I'm glad you prefer the Mini 2 thou, I do agree it is worth alot for the cost.

Jag medvetet avbröt home pointen för att försöka flyga och ha connection så långt som möjligt. Det vill säga se räckvidden från handkontrollen till drönaren.

As I understood, after drone lost connection and landed, you checked exact home point on DJI Fly app, and found it this way, right?
No actually not, it wasn't very precise with the positioning. I didn't receive a signal either when I was close to the drone because the battery was already out. So I had to look around the area a little bit to find it.
Great to know my Mini 2 is capable of keeping a great connection, nice video, but as You say not recommended to try this, I guess you may have broken just a few laws there Ooops Lol I am sure one day the CAA will force drone manufacturers to lock the maximum distance we can fly and if we need to fly further we will have to ask for an unlock code from air traffic control. Fly safe, fly safely.

My drone says it's losing connection after 200 meters. This is in a similar area as in the video. How do you get it so far?
There's a setting where a virtual barrier can be placed, try adjusting it in the settings and increase the barrier or remove it

Wow, we both share the same words and love for our little mini....I did something similar in city environment and got only to 14,500 feet distance at 390 feet altitude.....my baby landed and I used the longlat on the map..... and there she was .....my sweet baby 🥰 just waiting for me.....I have a Luma Cube strobe on it and I highly recommend it for day and night flying. I have the Mini 2SE and have never gone that far out. Farthest I ever went was 6000 feet, (1830m). Still had great connection, my 2SE tops out at 36mph (58km/h) It's a quick little bugger!

I have had a thought on these range tests. Some don’t make it back because of battery. Well looking at the shape of the drone it occurred to me that the drone may actually more streamlined in reverse, and maybe it could go further, easier going backwards. Just as flying sideways must create the most drag. Perhaps a test for this may assist those drone pilots who seem doomed on the way back, maybe it could save the day. A test showing a range test in reverse vs forward may establish an important drone action to perform on returns.
When you are reversing the drone speed is significantly reduced so you wouldn't make it home in time at all

what firmware version you were on at the time of recording, 01.04 is doing much worse now in terms of transmission
You need to increase altitude slowly as you go down range to keep good transmission
