As time marches on, more and more of you are turning to Affinity Publisher to create beautiful, professional looking interior and cover designs for your low-content books. This is awesome!
As someone who spent a decade as a professional designer and art director there’s no program I recommend more for those that want the full range of desktop publishing design capabilities at a teensy weensy fraction of the cost of its main competitor, Adobe InDesign. If you want an efficient, streamlined experience in a program that will allow you to grow as a creative while honing your design skills, this is the program for you.
In today’s tutorial I’ll show you how to make a coloring book using stock vector artwork. I’ve already done a similar tutorial using Affinity Designer (Affinity’s dedicated vector editing program; link below), but this video is for those who want to get proficient with just the one program before considering picking up a second. You might be surprised at how much vector editing can be done in that one program alone!

      Hello.
I want to ask you how to avoid the account close out, after someone registers the rights of the nish.
I have noticed that many people were working on niches without rights, but after a while one of them registered the niches then reported the books their accounts were closed.
So how can i avoid this if someone buys the nich rights after i lunched my book ?

I have used canva but there have been many formatting issues when uploading to kdp. Canva does not export the file to the exact size you have configured.
Nightmare it takes a lot of guesswotk and attempts to fix 😅

You are still the best at teaching Rachel. Plus you use Affinity. I think many more will move across to Affinity now they are working alongside CANVA.

So helpful! I had no idea working with vector files could be done in Publisher. Have to say the learning curve on these programs is pretty hefty, maybe not if a person has experience with adobe etc. Thanks again!

Great video, thanks. I have to say however, you were struggling with the text in the text box but left the text left justified, if you use center justified, you wouldn't have to worry about the box itself, just a thought.

Awesome tutorial, I like how you show how to change/edit vector graphics simply to make them unique, however what I would like to know how you edit/redsign adult coloring books such as Momss books, wellness books etc?

Hi Rachel, I have been using Affinity Publisher for about 1 year now and create both my interiors and covers with it.
Most of my books are coloring books that sell well. However, I will admit that the "node" tool has not been my friend!
Now that you have clearly shown how to use that little sucker, node and I are besties. Lol. 😂
Many thanks for a brilliant video. You are simply the best. Kindest. Libby xx

Thank you so much, Libby! I'm so happy to have been able to help you master that node tool, hopefully creating a lasting, lifelong friendship. 😂
Do you create your coloring books from scratch, or do you use vector artwork, like in this video?

Can this be done in Canva? I’m very comfortable with canva but I’ve seen that others struggle with formatting when exporting from canva

Hello. Great tutorial. When it is printed in kdp, is the cat on back side of the coloring book page? Would you have to put a blank page after the coloring book page so the cat is on the 3rd page? Also, in your opinion should the even pages be blank and odd pages have the picture. If yes then we would have to put a blank page between the cat and fox? Thank you for the help.

Great video after I watched it I created my first ever coloring book. It looks terrible ... and I LOvE! because I stayed up all night making it. One question, do we need to put numbers on all our pages in low content books?

Hi Rachel, I was following along, I am new to Affinity Publisher. I was able to remove the color from the cat, but when I tried to save the document - the only option I saw was save with history. So I save it with that. When I tried to export it as a PDF file to see what one page would look like, the PDF did not have the right size as I set it up. Also, the master file wasn't the same size as the other pages, and the clip art vectors are on the black surface beside the page - so I had to cut it from there. Please Advise.

I am on my second week of hard learning APUB and KDP to create books like this. Question, I see alot about the importance of bleed. Can you explain how that works also please in an upcoming video. I found the kdp templates for covers but I am not clear about the interior pages. I read that if even one of the pages in the book has bleed then all of them have to have it. Is there a template I can follow for setting the interior pages up?

Affinity publisher is part of a suite of programs for purchase to download onto your computer. Each one is purchased separately and I think around $55. I am interested in Affinity Publisher and Designer myself. Thanks Rachel for the vid. and the platform to exchange ideas.

I don't understand why sometimes I can cut and paste a single image in this EPS and sometimes I can't?? It is super frustrating when you just skip over important parts like cut & paste that are specific to this program!! Working intuitively DOES NOT WORK! Why does the long blue frame stick around after you change the page size and why can't I cut and paste from within the EPS???? And why is the damn page so long horizontally?? Why don't you explain these things we are beginners or we would not be here watching this video!
