Upton vs Dodworth Miners Open Age 13-7-24

Today saw us take on Upton in which was always going to be an absolute thriller. Today did not disappoint.
With the score at 0-0 it showed just how close the match actually was. At the start of the second half, Upton scored a nice try from spreading the ball out wide and a second from an interception where they ran 70 metres. Joe Ashworth almost made an outstanding try saving tackle despite being 30 metres behind when they set off. They missed 1 kick and this made the game Upton 10 Dodworth 0.
It looked like it was going to be a bad day at the office for the Miners until Tom Hardwick snuck over in the corner from a beautiful pass from Decland French. The try was not converted. Tom’s second try came minutes later after a beautiful offload from Man of the Match Will Smith where Tom raced 60 metres and danced around the full back. The conversion then took the game to 10-10 and everything was to play for. Tom completed his hat trick moments later after a nice tackle from Joe Perry led to a slip and nice passing down the line put him into space yet again. He dance around the full back once more and put the ball down under the posts. We converted and it took the game to Upton 10 Dodworth 16. Dodworth were able to get a penalty which was then converted taking the Miners ahead by two scores leaving the game at Upton 10 Dodworth 18. Dodoworth kept Upton out for the last 11 minutes and we are all extremely proud of our win today.
We may cross paths again in the playoffs and it’s sure to be another cracker if we do. Next week, we have a week off but we will be playing Wyke at home in two weeks for our new annual Sponsors Day. See you all down there!
