    Good video mate. A few tips from an off-road trainer. Calm... Clam... while winching. Relax on the vehicle power; put the vehicle in neutral. Patience. Let the winch pull you out. Further, let your winch pull you ALL the way out before disconnecting the winch and Pull Pal. What if you got bogged again while traversing the snow? You'd have to set up all over again. Stop, Think, Observe, Plan, Act (STOPA). DiscoverOffRoading.com

    Not a d-ring it is a clevis you used. So many ppl use multiple terms to sell/attract potential customers that the customer gets misinformed of the gear/tackle they are using. Clevis is a OPEN U shaped ring that uses a bolt or pin to make the closure thus joining 2 riggings, straps, chains, and the like together. D-ring is a CLOSED hitching/pulling/lifting point ring, commonly attached to a surface (bed/bumper/deck/frame) by bolts and/or is welded on.

    Take a look at the mounting system on the PulPal website… very neat/safe/clever way of securing the main assembly.
    I was cringing when you left the PulPal in the open position while undoing the clamp… it could easily fall and cut your fingers like garden shears 😳😳
    Helpful video though. Thx for posting.

    Great demo. A question though; You mentioned you highly recommend closed-system winching.. I'm *very* new to jeeping but had been told that the fewer pieces involved in winching the better.. So is closed-system better just because the line/strap/anchor is less likely to slip off a hook or is there more to it than that?

  • @louisp.3332
    @louisp.3332 Před 6 lety +2

    Not a good demo because you left out one important aspect. You need to tie a rope or attach a chain to the other side because in some instances it can be buried in the ground so deep (soft sand or mud) OR so tight, you can’t pull it out by hand and you need to use the rope to pull it, or roll your vehicle over it and let the vehicle pull it out. If you’re going to do a demo, then do a damn demo.. not to mention, there is five minutes of pure fluff in this video. Get rid of it and condense it would you please!!!!

    Looks like your using synthetic line on that winch? I know there are pros and cons of each and I'm currently reviewing both before I get my first winch! Hopefully I make the right choice! LOL That Pull Pal anchor looks like an EXTREMEly handy tool to have with you at all times!

    • @wildwilie
      @wildwilie Před 7 lety

      Synthetic lines are often more expensive and wear quicker over time, but much easier to work with. So if you can afford to spend the extra money without worrying. Its always a no brainer. Also have to make sure you keep an eye out for any wear and tear.

    • @TheCharleseye
      @TheCharleseye Před 7 lety

      tedwoe Ask any climber if they would trust a rope that regularly gets bathed in mud, dirt, snow, road dust, etc. Every natural byproduct of 4-wheeling is an enemy to those lines. The only way to be able to trust them is to unspool and hand wash every foot of it after every outing. Any grit left on the lines will work its way in and wear the fibers out.
      If the stuff was cheaper than cable, I'd say it's worth it but until the price comes down significantly, I won't be bothering with it. Safe winching practices don't cost anything and should be followed regardless of which you use.

      actually... can't go around without tearing up the land. To the right was mountain and deeper snow, and to the left was a mountain stream and very wet and soft terrain. It would have been irresponsible to go around, tbh. We were hoping to get the motorcycle across to keep exploring, but that didn't work, so I had to come back over. (I already crossed it once with chains to get over there... but couldn't get up on top of the drift again from the other side.
