How Haikyuu Went From Good to GREAT (2012 - 2020)

- In this video I discuss the 3 things that make Haikyuu so special (No Manga Spoilers).
After the exciting events in Haikyuu season 3 and with the release of Haikyuu season 4 this year, I decided to take a closer look at what makes the haikyuu anime and manga such a strong and successful story. As in any decent manga, in haikyuu funny moments, great artwork and strong individual episodes are a given. And throughout the series, we can follow the intense fights of the team of Karasuno vs a number of strong and likeable rivals, like Aobajousai, Shiratorisawa, Dateko or Inarizaki. However, what are the 3 things that truly make the story surrounding Hinata Shoyo and Kageyama Tobio stand out amongst many other shounen?

Other than One Piece and Hunter x Hunter, Haikyuu is easily the best manga I’ve ever read.
Atharva Deodhar That’s chill. I’d say One Piece and Berserk for me, personally. And maybe Vinland Saga or Kingdom, if I had to choose a third?
Gotta chuck in Full Metal Alchemist there as well
Some top tier manga in this comment thread, good on ya
yesyesyesss
I heard that the volleyball in Japan got ten% more players because of that manga/anime... no source so it could be fake but the show is good enough that it seems real
Several schools didn't have enough players for a volleyball team until Haikyuu dropped and resurrected high school volleyball
I believe it
I have seen people comment about how they were seriously inspired to try/get into volleyball because of Haikyu
i am amateur volleyball player in greece . the show is accurate af about volleyball.. good show to be honest and nice story at all!
Its accurate but it does have over exaggerated elements
@@leithissoufou4134 Naturally. It's still anime.
I still cant believe the show made volleyball so cool
Indeed I used hate volleyball but ever since I watched i I have a different outlook on it I played it for a bit but I got back into my main sport but such a great anime
I have literally started playing volleyball just because haikyuu
@@adamadas1673 same
Yeah a really good show
@@erijak2935 right
The way the matches bring out pure emotion from me is awesome and Nationals is one of the best arcs ever
Bro the nationals is just perfect
And i believe haikyuu is probably the second best manga in shonen jump right now
The consistency is mind boggling
Tushar Namboodiri spoilers **
Dude I balled my eyes out when hinata got a fever mid game. From the way the game was going, they would’ve won the game without Tsukishima and hinata they lost 29-27
@@Rectiifyy bro same
After all that he had done
to go out like that was just heart breaking,i wanted them to win it for hinata, but again furudate just made me remember how realistic he wants haikyuu to be
Ohara, please make Mr. Morj watch Haikyuu! He said he's not into sports anime, but you have to convince him!!
Haikyuu is amazing and every team is interesting on their own. The manga right now is godly!
I'm so glad I caught up, I totally agree, my number 3 series running in shonen jump right now!
Please talk about Mob Psycho.
The emotional resonance with those characters is topnotch.
I'd say the first season can be a bit hard to get into and see why Haikyuu is so well regarded.
My advice is to at least watch till you reach the first tournament arc.
The earlier episodes are a bit uneven & lull you into a false sense of security, and the characters *_seem_* to develop really fast, but that really changes at the end of season 1.
Not only did I dislike volleyball before Haikyuu, I also refused to watch sports anime because they all seemed so ridiculous. Not only did it make me care about volleyball, but it started me down a hole of other sports anime, just chasing that feeling I got from watching and reading Haikyuu. Nothing really compared.
It's the most excited I've gotten for an anime since One Piece.
It’s been a couple of weeks since I rewatched this anime and I.just.can’t.get over how every single detail in this anime seem to enhance the emotional impact and how it does everything while looking so simple and easy. There’s no many things done right. It gives me goosebumps
SPOILER....
There are a number of people that didn’t like the first season as much, but I LOVED it. It’s a good way to set up the next episode and a reminder for the people in the team that they need to get better, and a reminder for the readers that absolutely ANYTHING can happen in the anime.
Yeahhhh boy!!! Haikyuu greatness.
LETS GO!!!
Thanks bro!!
There are certain aspects in sports like rivalry which was wonderfully portrayed in Haikyuu!!. Even If i was a player in other sport i could damn well relate to it. I have been in similar situations , felt similar pain , felt same feeling of excitement and energy which I was never able to express before . But haikyuu goes deep and hits it deep!
Some fans suggested Haikyuu to Mr Morj on one of his live stream. His reaction like nah, he doesn't like sport manga. That guy have no idea what he's missing. Easily one of the best shonen manga ever.
This is really well presented. I look forward to watching this series now 🐼
I was waiting for this. You completely hit the nail on its head my friend. Love this video!
Lol, your reviews are godly as well, I love them
I just love your analytical videos
This show saved me from a very unhealthy lifestyle
same here, I used to really hate sports because I was never good at it, but now Haikyuu gives me the totally new perspective on how it is to be a sportsperson, to always challenge yourself and improve yourself and pals at the same time.
@@mooninya8621 sports are so fun when u get used to them I’ve played football since 3rd grade it’s just all around fun you should really work out and play sports it will all be worth it
One day
@@sage3431 I was always one of the fittest in my grade but I was never part of any sports club cause I thought those are just for keeping yourself fit and I already was really athletic. But because of Haikyuu i joined a sports club. Only then I realized its one of the best things one can do really. I think its a big mistake not being in a sports club honestly
@@Dominguez6 that’s awesome yes sport clubs are very good
I really like Haikyuu (but I already liked volley ball before) and I love the rivalry between or main characters) but the manga/anime which does make me fall in love with a sport is DAIYA NO ACE!
First of all, the main character, Sawamura, enter a high shool baseball team who is already strong (it's not the addition of a player who makes the team better). Secondly you have the rivalry/friendship between Sawamura and Furuya who are as different as Hinata and Kageyama but who are both pitcher under the same team (and different kind of pitchers). My favourite character is the catcher who have to deal with the two. All the good things you noted for Haikyuu can be implied to Daiya no Ace. You see the struggle of or main character to be the ace (funny how Sawamura reminds me a bit of Luffy and that you also have the notion of inherited will!)
I also like how Terajima depicts the opponents and the players who are not the main players.
Love the direction and change in the format you're doing with the channel. I Love your videos!(chills from Brazil)
Really great to see you talk about other series. Would great if you continue doing this even if its once in a while.
This thing is edited so well. Good job YOU.
Went from knowing nothing and making fun of volleyball (my high school didn’t have a boys volleyball team, so we all thought volleyball was a girls sport) to falling in love with playing it. All thanks to Haikyu. Lol, Can’t wait for this Covid to be over so everyone can play at the park again.
The long wait was with it!
There is nothing more satisfying than seeing Hinata's spike
Came back here to thank you for the recommendation! Gave it a shot after watching your video and I fell in love instantly! :D
Loving the aspect ratio on this vid. I have always said that I'm waiting for a future game that is stylized in this cinematic form
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Ohara, your review made me want to start on Haikyuu ❤️
Ohara GOATd for this
The presentation/editing, is so professional the music fits well it's just very good production overall that's not even mentioning the content which in itself is enjoyable and very informative. Keep it up ohara, IDK how long these take but I can imagine they're time consuming to say the least.
Haikyuu is the only sports manga/anime that gives me chills in almost every chapter/episode! (especially the current arc in the manga)
Great video man! 👏🏻I also love your one piece content. You should make individual character analysis for haikyuu too, just like you do for one piece (there's a lot of gems to analyse). 😄
Man I can't wait for the rest of the manga to be adapted!!
i love haikyuu
cant believe i just found this vid in the middle of your op stuff
god tier video
Absolutely loved this video!! Haikyu is one of my favorite series in jump. I love everything about it. I would love to see you break down my hero academia if you watch that as well. I love the two protagonist aspect about it as well. I do think tho kageyama and Hinata are far great rivals than deku/bakugo but I hope my hero can get that rivalry going just like haiyku.
The series goes above and beyond in the nationals arc
okay so i’ve binged watched a bunch of these videos (i’m a really big fan, he’s such an intelligent guy so it’s good to hear from someone who actually knows what he’s talking about) and i was wondering if he knows d gray man? it has a really complex plot which constantly keeps me intrigued and even if the updates are slow, it’s still fascinating since every chapter builds on the story! it’s a rather gothic shounen and it takes a while for the proper plot to take off, but once it does, i’m sure you’d like it!
Cant wait for more seasons :D
I miss this kinda videos from you😭
I am 25 years old and my life is still on its first arc hahhhh
Haikyu!! is the best! I’d love to see more Haikyu!! content from you. Maybe some character discussions? Hey, hey, hey!
hohohohho, ohara is now in Haikyuu
oh don't you worry i have rewatched it thrice. The second and third time was mainly just watching reactors like ayolaxxone but still i managed to notice so many details that i dint see the first time!! It is amazing
Honestly sad that I didn't hear about your channel until recently. But at least I have a backlog! 😄
I've been playing volleyball for 2 years but I started watching Haikyuu two weeks ago at the beginning of the second lockdown (in France) ... Absolutely great... Before I wanted to play volleyball two or three times a week and now its two or three times a day ! I miss volleyball so much
Haikyuu made me go out and sign up to a Volleyball club. It's the one thing that motivated me to exersice. The ability of almost every episode to hype you up, even if there's not much happening, is astounding. Now every time before I start any activity, I'll watch an episode of Haikyuu.
HQ was the reason why I started exploring the world of anime. I only used to watch Pokemon, Conan and Naruto- I really did miss out on a lot before. I think 'Baby Steps' and 'Ookiku Furikabutte' are two other well-researched sports anime. I especially enjoy the latter because of its focus on the fun aspects of playing sports in high school as well as the coach's concern on the kids' mental health and strength.
I'm only watching the anime...I am waiting soooooo long for new episodes, it makes me sad tbh because its just soooooo good
Everytime I watch Haikyuu analysis I have the urge to go back and reread the whole manga 😭
Same but for me it’s like hmm am I gonna rewatch Haikyu for the umpteenth time?
How am I this early...
Ohara, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Slam Dunk manga
I feel like this video is "How Haikyuu is Great" instead of "How Haikyuu Went From Good to Great" . Either way i really enjoyed this video and the amount of work that was put into the slight details of the video. hope you make more similar to this.
i would personally love to hear you talk about jujuttsu kaisen
Mega Facts
God, I love Haikyuu so much, is one of my favourites mangas with One Piece and 5 elementos (A spanish one lmao). I also like your video very much, but i want to say one little thing... is FurUdate, not FurAdate lmao
Last point: Flawless setting
Me: I know, kageyama's pretty good at it huh
Brazilian national player Alan de souza, not just gush about how accurate the anime is, but how deep "THE" tanaka moment hited him, he said he already had that situation many times and it is very difficulty to keep your spirit high when you are performing poor at the world level, he said he loves that episode too deep
ahahahha cool huh???
i even have the theory that Ojiro Aran is inspired on Alan, because they look alike, Aran is the japanese pronuntiation of Alan, and the character was created when Alan started to get world famous
Haikyuu mentioned. Time for volleyball anime fights and surprisingly accurate strategy. Animating this was THE best decision ever made
Go go, let's go, let's go Dateko!
My main gripe with Haikyuu (especially if compared with the former top dogs in the spokon genre, being Kuroko no Basket, Eyeshield 21 and Slam Dunk) is that the side-cast in the opponents' team are too forgettable and their designs is not unique enough. After the timeskip I find myself not recognizing spectators basically all the time during the recent chapters, just because their general design is a little bit lacking visually-wise.
The series itself, though, it's very very good. There is always a spokon series in WSJ and now that Haikyuu seems to turn to its end, I wonder what we'll see next.
LOL the subtle diss at kuroko no basket
Always liked volleyball. But this show made me regret not joining the team in highschool.
I'm reading the manga right now and the story is amazing, it's not like inazuma eleven fake sport, it's real e we feel the characters. AMAZING!!!
Same thing happen to me when i watch eyesheild21
Still one of the best manga I've ever read~
Yes
Yowamushi Pedal did the same thing for me. xD
I would enjoy more haikyu content. The current arc in the manga is incredible.
hey hey hey
Hey hey heyyy
I love you even more now
I’m a life long die hard ice hockey fan, and in my spare time I’ve been developing an ice hockey manga because there is 1, single, solitary ice hockey manga I’ve been able to find and it was mediocre at best. Even consider my intense over appreciation of the sport. I’ve found a scant smattering of ice hockey scenes, but only a single dedicated series. I’m seriously considering if I should go the realistic route or if I should somehow incorporate powers of some kind...
Of the sports anime I've seen, powers while initially excited can quickly get out of hand. I would suggest the realistic route. It would make use of knowledge of the sport and can also serve as a way to lightly introduce someone to the sport of ice hockey.
ayers01 Thank you, kindly. I appreciate the feedback. While I am leaning, fairly heavily, toward realism I won’t count powers out completely just yet. I feel like it may limit my focus too much at the outset. Regardless, thanks again. Food for thought.
@@jasonpislaan8195 I agree with ayers
Also I think that Haikyu is mostly realistic but I mean... I’m sure some things are still exaggerated compared to real life volleyball
But aside from those like idk exaggerated skills/talents? (Not sure what to call it) It doesn’t really go into “special powers” mode
If you can write a compelling manga about Hockey like that then I think it could become something special
Best of luck to you sir!
(I’m not even really into sports but series like Haikyu are able to pull me in and genuinely keep me interested)
The amount of times I’ve watched and read haikyuu is embarrassing is the best way. I love haikyuu
0:07 Kaiji and to a lesser extent Akagi
I love haikyuu. It’s so nice to watch and I can’t wait to see the 5th season. It’s just a polarizing anime with great characters and story. Also I wished now I started to make sports in my good years and don’t become that fat that I am now 🤣🤣🤣
Love ur style, its chill. JoJo?
If you like sports anime, watch chihayafuru. Not your typical sports but it's draws you to know more about the it similar to haikyu
You have simply experienced a chadformation
Ohara: - Hai-kyuu
Me: - One-Piece?
i want you to talk about demon slayer (kimetsu no yaiba) anime
I literally hated volleyball until I watched this
Have a comment/view for the algorithm.
Haikyuu is basically slam dunk with volleyball .
I think shokugeki no soma is the top Shonen of this era. I can agree haikyyu is a close second but soma is killing the shonen new era.
I haven't read the Haikyu manga, and I'm still not planning to read it as I loved the animation so much. The jumps, foot works, the angle in which the serve, or the blocks, the smash etc are shown. I feel like if I read the manga, I'll know how the story will end and I don't want to ruin the enthusiasm and the thrill that I get while watching the game in anime...
Was thinking about watching this ut i just started black clover
Signed up for One Piece ... and wasn't disappointed 🤔
Talk about Kuroko no Basketball!!!
idc if anyone else watches it but Morj has to. Come on Ohara convince the man
Anyone watched/read Prince of Tennis?
I’m like you
Slam dunk did this to me.
Speaking in the most simple terms, it does Shounen Anime/Manga correctly. What do I mean by that? Well, it inspires you. Simple as that.
You should read blue lock wanna hear your opinion, it's the opposite of haikuu but same level
howbout one puchman??
Umm I like what you're saying but you gotta work on your speaking voice. Check out Super Eyepatch Wolf. I relisten to his videos over and over just cuz I love his voice ❤️ ☮️
I think Kuroko no Basket does it well too, I recomend :)
All I see is kageSuke and HiNaruto
