      That song is about the band telling Billboard (I think, one of the ratings lists) to give them back the prestige they had with their first 2 albums. Bullets refer to the dots used in the rating scheme.

    • @helmedon
      @helmedon Před 3 lety +1

      @@libertyresearch-iu4fy I always heard that it was a call out to music critics to give them their due. Ever heard the term "number 1 with a bullet"? That refers to the rating system for Billboard and other music rating sources. Dots or actual bullet shapes 1-5 to rate the record. They had fallen off in acclaim after their 3rd album didn't as well as their first 2. Sadly, Give Me Back My Bullets fared even worse. That's what my father always told me anyway. He was a DJ and good friends with Jimmy Fox of the James Gang. I heard lots of interesting stories about Joe Walsh growing up, lol.

    • @robertsilvis815
      @robertsilvis815 Před 3 lety +20

      I read an article in Rolling Stone magazine, many years ago, about that incident. It seems that the band was home in Jacksonville Fl., and Gary Rossington, Alan Collins, and Ronnie VanZant stopped at a bar in one of the rougher parts of town. Ronnie went in, looking for one of their friends, while the others waited in the car. The others were getting ticked, thinking that Ronnie was in the bar getting drunk, when out runs Ronnie, jumping in the car, yelling "drive! Get out of here, he's going to kill me!" (or words to that affect). They drove off, wondering what had happened. When he calmed down, Ronnie explained what had happened, and then proceeded to write the lyrics. they said it only took him about 10 to 15 minutes to write them.

    The Jug is a real place in Jacksonville, Florida where Ronnie, Allen, Gary, Bob, Leon, & Billy all grew up. The Jug Saloon. Went there a year ago and met an ex-marine. I was wearing one of my Cactus shirts, and he asked me about who Cactus was. I mentioned at one point how the singer Rusty Day was in The Amboy Dukes with Ted Nugent before he was in Cactus. “Teddy! I know him,” he said. “Wanna talk with him over my phone?” My jaw dropped! “Uhh...sure!” My dad was there and I let him know what was going on. “What are you gonna say?” “I. Don’t. Know!” Ted was in a hurry, so I could say much, but I had a couple of beers so I don’t remember what I said. It was a moment to remember though. Saw Teseschi-Trucks perform that night, and visited Ronnie, Lacy, Marion, Jimmy, Leon, Allen, & Kathy the next day before heading to Macon to see the many different Allman Brothers Band sites, mainly the big house and the cemetery.

    True story. They were dancing in the Brown Jug bar. Ronnie was dancing with another guys girl and the guy came in and pull a gun on Ronnie. Ronnie told his band mates to just turn around and walk out he'll have to shoot us in the back. They wrote the song on their way back home in the car

    Fun Fact: Third guitar player Ed King wrote and played the bass parts for this studio recording because bassist Leon Wilkerson took a brief hiatus from the band. Ed made a number of contributions to early recordings, notably the opening guitar riff to 'Sweet Home Alabama'.

      No, that's Ronnie. (& Allen Collins). That looks like from the 1976 "Gimmie Back my Bullets" album. Right after Ed King Left and before Steve Gaines joined them. (But you're correct in the fact that this song featured the original drummer Bob Burns, and that photo is with Artimus Pyle). But all the other members are original.
