Fernando is at least their best selling single with more than 10 million copies sold. More than Dancing Queen.

Depends on your definition. Dancing Queen charted higher in most countries, but Fernando sold more singles.

    First comment here!
so glad to see you again reaction to more ABBA songs
    "Fernando" (1976)
is a soft ballad, so nice and beautiful
The best is the beauty of their vocal harmonies,
very soft at the whisper level but at a level of perfection,
that explodes in a magic chorus
ABBA had already recorded "Dancing Queen" and it came from the success of "Mamma Mía"
It was the manager who convinced them to record "Fernando" so as not to repeat the style
(the brunette singer Frida had done it before in 1975 on her solo album in Swedish
and it was a success, but with lyrics of a lovesong,
and these to ABBA is a friendship story about mexican soldiers)
The manager was right and everything was a success, one after another in that year 1976,
with three singles #1 consecutives in UK
    Mamma Mía (2 weeks)
    Fernando (4 weeks)
    Dancing Queen (6 weeks)
In addition, this variety of options had different results in each country.
"Fernando" was a colossal success in Australia (14 weeks at #1 surpassed the "Hey Jude" mark)
and 7 weeks at #1 in Germany
"Dancing Queen" was 14 weeks #1 in Sweden and 6 weeks #1 in the U.K. and 8 weeks #1 in Australia
Both were #1 in the U.S. but in various rankings:
"Dancing Queen" on the Billboard and
    "Fernando" on Adult Contemporary
"Fernando" is one of the songs that ABBA recorded in spanish too in 1980
for the full album in spanish "Gracias por la musica"
after the fantastic succes of "Chiquitita" (1979]) in Latin American countries
This is a visit from ABBA to Japan Special TV 1978
a very nice introduction by Frida
I think that ABBA performed live three songs:
    "S.O.S." ; "Money money money" ,
and the final number: "Thank you for the music"
    and a last comparation
"Fernando" (1976) is first ABBA single with Frida in lead voice,
and recorded in her solo album in Swedish (released before ABBA)
as "S.O.S." (1975) is first ABBA single with Agnetha in lead voice,
and recorded in her solo album in Swedish (released after ABBA)
that's for a next reaction, my suggestion is
"S.O.S." (1975), another banger and second worldwide hit to ABBA
Thanks so much for these video and reaction
I wish you a great weekend
    See you in the next
    My best regards from
    Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷
    South América

This was their biggest hit in Australia - staying at number 1 in the charts for 14 weeks. Keep in mind, this was in the days when you had to actually go into a record store and buy a physical copy - not like these days when all you have to do is play the song on a streaming platform !

Yes!So well said! What i was thinking too.Btw ,(from what i've read )streaming sales can count even if someone listens for only some 30 plus seconds in some platforms, which is kinda unfiar, but physical sales werre solid copies sold those days, and someone had to have a good motive to get up from the sofa and get out to buy the record,so in a way it counts more.

Great song and reaction. Love me some ABBA. yes Frida has such a beautiful speaking voice too. Did you know this is actually a song sung by only Frida, not ABBA ? Frida made a great solo album in the mid 70s called Frida Ensom (Frida alone) it was all in her native language of Swedish. It was a huge hit all over Europe especially. Then she did it with Agnetha and ABBA. you should listen to the Swedish version of Fernando too. Thank you and take care

    • @Vikinggirl1679

@@donaldduck2139 yes that is true. Not sure if you know her story. She was born in nazi occupied Norway to a Norwegian woman and a German soldier (some say a lebensborn child) that already had a wife and children. When Germany lost he fled back home and never even saw Frida be born. Norway did not like these "German" children. They were treated horribly. Put in institutions, experimented on, ostrosized, raped, or deported to Germany. The mothers were considered colaberators and often had their heads shaved and stripped of Norwegian citizenship. Fridas grandmother and mother knew this and fled to Sweden with her when she was a baby and that's where she grew up. Her mother died when she was 2 and she didn't meet her father well until adulthood thinking he had died on his ship going home. Quite a traumatic childhood

ABBA had a sequence of big hits with "Mamma Mia", "Fernando" and "Dancing Queen" that were released a few months apart from each other.
All 3 were #1 hits in the UK and Ireland and together with "SOS" the beginnings of ABBA’s 18 consecutive TOP 10 hits from 1975 to 1982.
"Waterloo" was also a #1 song for ABBA in 1974. ✌️

This particular one is the studio version. It's not really live...
For a great live performance, I recommend looking for:
"ABBA - FERNANDO (Live in 1975) 1080HD.Qk", uploaded by the 'grand music' channel.
Great to see you again, guys, and i hope you have a great 2024.

its not live,, is the same instruments every time...and they wouldn't cart the orchestra around with them . . if live you would hear at least slight differences, but does it matter...no because they can perform live very well without sync. . . they may well be singing but dubbed over on this video...

Not their biggest hit. Not even top 3. Also, after the success of Waterloo in the Eurovision they struggled to break through, until Australia embraced them especially with SOS and Mamma Mia, by 1976 when Fernando was released they were already world famous. Also, not live.
So, in short, not their biggest hit, not the song that made their international career and this was not live. Boy you're having a bad day....
