- ...I don't own the rights to this property...but I'm mighty glad to have shared such an aptly-titled song...don't even care how crappy the video is...my soul has experienced such bliss watching this over and over...I just wished I had seen them perform live...btw is it Erik Brann or Danny Weiss playing guitar?
- Hudba
Gawd I love this. Ball is an absolutely outstanding album.
Ball is really great.
rest in peace Doug Ingle 💙⚡️🦋
I don't many of us realized just what a great musical period we were witnessed to,I know that I took it for granted at first and thought it would last forever.
Période incroyable, c’est vrai!❤!
Ron Bushy was one of the most underrated drummers of the 60's
This entire band flew under the appreciation radar w/the exception of IN A GADDA DA VIDA
@@douglasknoll3500Totalement vrai! ❤
Absolutely.
Not for countless school students who played Inna Gadda da Vida on their desks !!!###
I just happened to be 1 of those guys at times to play on a few of those desks in school ....way back in the days of way back when......🙂🙂❤️
2020 amidst the pandemic... over 50 decades.... and I still watch this.... FOREVER!
... love the Univox echo of Erik......
It's an Echoplex
"50 decades".....?
40 ou 50 ans ?
@@douglasknoll3500 Dinosaurs must have dug 'em.
One of my favorite singles of all time and a brilliant bass line that anchors the song.
RIP Lee.
Nothing like the golden era of classical rock where my youth bloomed and where meditation discovered me before I discovered it, as a young teen! Iron Butterfly one of the best!
Excellent album and very underrated band. Had the album, a little while ago, in '69.
Iron Butterfly and their music will live on forever....even in just my mind....until the end of my life.....
their music will resonate for generations to come. im convinced that our era, that is the 60s-90s produced the very best music in whatever genre. Singers and musicians have the greats as examples. I only hope they can match or exceed the legendary singers and players of our times.
Ce grand groupe méritait plus de reconnaissance! 🎉
RIP IRON BUTTERFLY.........but you will live on in our hearts.........
I saw them as 14 year old, first concert ever. August 29th 1968 at the Coliseum in Portland OR. Full on Flower Power in bloom. Majickal.
Dave Doran from Bellingham??
Just got the word on Yahoo...Lee Dorman dead at 70...RIP Lee, you had great tone, and your work with Captian Beyond was some of most enjoyable music I knew as a high schooler...thanks for sharing your chops and vision with the world...
I got to talk to Lee Dorman after a Captain Beyond gig. When I asked why they didn't tour more, he said that their management wasn't doing a very good job. I told him that they have many more fans than they realize. Both Iron butterfly and Captain beyond were great bands.
These people were brilliant ahead of their time and for ever Awesome.
Vrai!❤❤❤.
All four of these guys were masters of their instruments. Together they were phenomenal. I saw them at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino, CA.
I caught them at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, AL back in '87. Classic lineup. I knew Erik Braunn was a fantastically innovative guitarist, but seeing them live was a real eye-opener. Braunn did several things on stage that I always assumed were some sort of studio-added effects. Nope. Like the vocal chorus at the end of Flowers and Beads - he did that with his guitar. I got to meet Doug Ingle after the show. A nice, gracious fellow.
aw the swing saw many great bands showing my age
I saw them there with Lee Michaels. Great show.
@@nellacpizzi3997 the Swing was demolished by a small airplane in '81- I saw at least 20 shows there through '81.
"Do You Know What I Mean"......! I just saw her yesterday.....
it was a real shame they got stuck at the airport during Woodstock and never made it there to play ,that would have been AWSOME !!!!
Never knew,,,,
I have this, the 1st one, and Innagoddadavida
a damn shame, fer sure
Really...
First band I saw 1970
One of the greatest, 4 piece combos in the world!
God's speed Lee fly high with the Butterfly you were part of. Thank you for the sweet sounds..RIP
Greatest voice.
Je suis d’accord!❤
i remember hearing this song on am radio way back when it first hit the airwaves. the announcer never mentioned who the artist was and I never found out until the internet and search engines. it was top forty but only for like a month then it fell off. I think it's their best work really. I put Inna Gadda da Vida as their second best work. don't get me wrong, theyre both bad ass songs and i love Iron Butterfly to this day.
One of the best bass riffs ever.
That's Erik Brann on guitar. I saw them in 1969 when they were promoting Ball, the album this song hails from.
The classic lineup of this stellar band. Earlier and later versions were also good /but this was the most successful and best !!!###
Iron butterfly like the doors were top. flight musicians with one great LP after another
The bass in this is so good!
WAY AHEAD of their time.
Yes sir. Lee Dorman should be in the St. Louis Hall of Fame. But I doubt he will ever make it.
God, is that good. Psychedelic dream. Doug Ingle 💜🌌
Belda Beast is another psychedelic classic which never gets any airplay (or seldom got any airplay in its day, either).
Always loved this song. My favorite from the Butterfly
When I was just a kid Iron Butterfly was my first very influential band. I used to run to the a.m. radio and put my ear against it when I heard this song
That must have been totally awesome
Iron butterfly kicks butt period timelessness of this legendary rock group is totally awesome
hell yeah. one of the all time greats for sure
Has to be Erik - he played that Mosrite through his tenure with Iron Butterfly
Yes, Erik. Danny Weis left after first album "Heavy". Lee Dorman was a fantastic bass player, but he did not play on the first album. That honor goes to Jerry Penrod.
My favorite Iron Butterfly song.
Have you ever heard their "Scorching Beauty" song from the Sun and Steel album. It is do good.
A song full of dreams and positive memories.
R.I.P. Doug Ingle
Amazing, ... wow. watching this, and them playing it, "how" they are playing it,
wow. just wow, and the memories, .... yah. nice....
they had a thousand guys but lee dorman ron bushy doug engle and eric braun were IRON BUTTERFLY
I saw the Braun-Bushy-Dorman-Ingle line-up on April 20, 1988 at the Bayou in Wash. D.C., when Ahmet Ertegun put them out on tour for 20th anniversary of Atlantic Records. I was dumbfounded at the note-for-note renditions of their songs from late 60's. Lee Dorman played a blonde Fender P-Bass, Doug on Hammond B-3, and Erik Braun played through a 50W Marshall. I heard a lot of patrons around me making the same comment, "the band sounds like they're playing off CD". The quality was that good. I went on balcony floor and looked down on Doug Ingle's playing of Termination, Flower and Beads, and other songs. Very special and he was great. Lee Dorman's bass playing was fantastic. He was a very underrated player in my book. And Erik Braun, the guy could flat out play and duplicated all the elephant roars on his guitar when they played In-a-gadda-da-vida. A priceless memory to see that I.B. line-up.
Charles Wilson This record was/is so hip & imaginative in a time when many records were at least trying for that. Lee Dorman was way overlooked when it came time to give credit to the great Bass Players!
+Gary Oldroyd Dorman helped make the first Captain Beyond album the masterpiece that it was. There is some live captures of CB with Dorman on youtube, check them out.
@@martianshoes Indeed he did, I saw them Live in 92' at Sebastian Beach Inn, Melbourne FL, and Brought Sufficiently Breathless to have it Autographed, Lee Dorman actually said, "Damn, I forgot about That"... Autographed it and Bought my Drinks for the night, Great guys Lee and Ron Bushy, Unfortunately they were without Erik Braunn and Doug Ingle on that tour
I saw them at Under the Rail in Seattle in the late 90's... awesome ! The opening act was this Viking thing and the drummer who was using Rons gear, spun the crash cymbal and squirted lighter fluid on it and set it ablaze... needless to say Ron was not amused...
Doug Ingle is the only original butterfly left. Very underrated band. Lee Dorman on every song just fills every nook and cranny, unconscious power is another great dorman bass line. Would have loved to see them live,of course it would had to be one of the reunions they had in the 90s because i wasnt even thought of till 1975. Definitely all were masters of their instruments.
Saw them in Spokane washington ...i was 15/16 one of the best concerts i saw ..it was right at the same time Ball was released.
Jerry Penrod played bass on Unconscious Power (from Heavy). Lee Dorman joined Iron Butterfly after Penrod left with Danny Weis for Rhinoceros.
@ChristopherBingham-sz5zb Excellent. Thanks for the correction. All this time, I thought it was Lee on that track!
The original psychedelic experience! Deep cut treasure.
When I saw Iron Butterfly in 1970. They are a Real Good band Live. Oh and the memory thing...You got that!
If you're a once professional musician, like me before, you would notice different time signatures.... GENIUS!
What a trippy bass line
“Just remember…what LEE DORMAN said……feed your head….feed your head”..I always sing my version to White Rabbit….
Great psychedelic / progressive track... I think..🤔
Erik Braunn - I was with them when they recorded this.
+Barbara Boyle ...you are a very, very fortunate being indeed if you were really there, as I wished I had even seen just one performance when they were this young....when we all were...this young....I am 61 now....and I will carry the happiness that I have seen even just this on video...thanks to youtube....
I always thought Erik was one of the most overlooked of the guitar greats. He was very creative and imaginative. The music has long since been corrupted and light like his can barely shine through.
Barbara: Did you know Marsha Silverman at the time ???
Watching their other videos esp. "Iron Butterfly Theme" on Playboy Club, the group is also very keen on syncing their performances to their own music. Many will be mistaken to think they are performing live on some. By the way, at the time they were on the peak of popularity, many termed their music heavy metal.
Be yourself and live a little,
Don't bother painting your face;
Tomorrow it may rain and colors run,
Better it quench the flowers thirst.
Don't be afraid to live a little,
Don't be afraid of the people that belittle our love,
Oh our love.
Open up your thoughts and listen to others,
Your fellow man may surprise you;
He offers a unique item,
Soul experience, help yourselves to each…
I love this music and alway's have!
oh... look what a beautyful sound
This song makes me feel so melancholy and nostalgic.
Lee Dorman was from St. Louis and should be in the St. Louis Walk of Fame. But the powers that be (judges) don't seem to feel he is deserving. Most people who know of his talent would disagree.
Stupenda
Superb
so coooooool I love them!
Wow before synthesizers..and they had their own synthesis
It's funny that he has the foot-switch to a Vox Super Beatle on the Vox Continental to show the change of effects when they are "lip-instrument syncing". A great tune and wonderful flash-back none the less. A+++
In the 50's/60's a trend developed in male singing: Singing higher and higher. Most of these just dispensed with any valuation of the masculine range or tone as they pushed higher. (John Lennon, Robert Plant, et al and etc. etc.) But this singer was staying with a big, round masculine tone, which I like.(The chorus to In-a-God-a-Da_Vida would be nothing without it.) It represented a path less-trodden, one that fell off and almost disappeared by the 80s. But we now have singers like this again. The singer for "The National" is one of many examples.
Excellent commentaire! Sa voix magnifique et masculine était presque à contre courant. Je n’arrive pas à exprimer exactement ce que je veux dire❤.
Ah those times
Their finest tune.
This was the only lineup I forever liked.
Tremendo.. erik brann
RIP Lee Dorman
wow that base line..............
My ALL-TIME Favorite IRON BUTTERFLY. HAVE A "BALL"
Sometimes I wish I had an Iron Butterfly tattoo on my forehead.
Its not too late!
Lee's gone, Rhino's gone. I miss these times a great deal. See you on the other side brothers.
Erik Brann gone in 2003 from a congenital heart condition.
And Ron Bushy is now gone. Doug Ingle is the last of the best lineup left. Danny Weis is still doing well, and he played the Mosrite magnificently on the first album before Eric Brann came on the scene.
I think the bass players got a butterfly in his pants.
Haha, that made me laugh out loud. I can see why you said that
I am 61 now...used to play lead guitar for various genre bands but I love this kind of music up to now...I have a question for those in the know....I guess Erik's guitar is either a Mosrite or Rickenbacker here....can anybody confirm for me?
+Edgardo Bier Mosrite
hey thanks John
Oh, thanks!
Edgardo Bier: I believe Dorman switched to a Fender bass when he joined Captain Beyond.
Actually, he probably switched to a Fender when they added Rhino and Mike Pinera to IB and did Metamorphosis in 1970, and then continued with it in Captain Beyond.
This Is The OG Iron Butterfly. Doug, Erikk, Lee, And Ron
OG?
I wish everyone the best and everyone please be safe and keep rocking
BAD TO THE BONE !!
Curious as to what 1969 TV show this segment came from. Thanks for the upload.
Could have been the Red Skelton Hour. I think the show had IB play IAGDV (short version) and perhaps Soul Experience. The Skelton shows now released have edited Soul Experience out so more stinking commercials can be crammed down the viewers' throats.
@@johnvinga5446 Thanks for the info. I'm still looking for their David Frost TV show appearance in 1970. No luck so far.
It was 1969 wasn't it? I see from Doug's clothes and sideburns
This gprs, iron butter fly, were..a good singers, and I admired theirs, musical...they reminded..me...of a nother..former..gprs, ginger baker, and Eric Clayton, Bruce's Scottish, singer, the..creams,
Kepompongkah?
I think I commented on another IB vid that they were not a metal, or proto-metal band, as Doug Ingle has made quite clear in his post-Butterfly days, instead I would call them proto-progressive, these guys clearly thought outside the box to some extent. Their label -- Atco -- nearly worked them to death so I, for one, don't think they had the time to develop their ideas to the extent they possibly wanted to. After Braunn was sacked they went kinda blusey for whatever reason and then Ingle quit and the fire went out. But for a few years there they were the bee's knees . . . Cheers!
Word is Eric Braun chose to leave due to the poor affects the traveling and hectic, stressful schedule had on his health. Some say he wanted a heavier sound as well, although after he left the band certainly got the heavier blues sound (which turned out to be too heavy for Doug Ingle). Braun had an ulcer by age 19, and he was born with a congenital heart problem--and he was having health problems while still with the band. No wonder he passed away at age 52.
I actually like this one.
Groovy
Thxxxx - aber die Tonspur ist reichlich duster, besser mp3 - studio?
Another question----what is Doug's stompbox and what is he doing, or , rather what effect does it do to his keyboard sound? Can't hear anything different,or is it just for show?
Looks like a Fender Blender. He may be using it on the record. Here, it's just for show.
Clever tight song,I have the 45,,,,
Mosrite bass as well
What kind of bass does Dorman have?
Mosrite. I believe the band had an endorsement deal with Semie Moseley. Erik Brann played a Mosrite guitar as well.
that was amazing! where has it been hiding!
Is this from Upbeat?
Soul jiwa
me vuelvo loca
Mine, too : )
💜💜💜
Why isn't Tim Kilen ever mentioned. He played lead guitar in Iron Butterfly for years before he left the group and went to play back up for 3 Dog Night. No history on him that I can find. I knew him personally and saw all the pictures. I want to know why the government hides him. He was political and I know they killed him by mail dust. Alpha I it was called. an A.I.D. disease. I hung with him until his time was done. I miss him. Anybody know anything?
I miss you Tim. Cross that River of Styx and come visit me.
Cindy Cassaro The earliest I was aware of Iron Butterfly was the Heavy album (1967?)--don't remember who played lead guitar then; Erik Brann played lead on the In-a-Gadda-daVida album and Ball.
Cindy Cassaro There's a Tim Kislan, who played keyboards off an on, see near bottom of page here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Butterfly
+Leonard Urban it is indicated 1980.....
+Leonard Urban I believe the first guitarist was Danny Weiss.
@bobbyclyvvjr
SO did I LOL
Metamorphosis
I really like the off-time stuff the bass player and drummer are doing. Cool. I like some of their stuff. Pretty creative - even though its quite dated compared to Beatles and Hendrix.
Pecom PADANG bengkak
Lee Dorman looks high out of his goddamn mind.
Kolektor dangdut menangis
One of the better 2 songs on that Album; I was sincerely disappointed with it.......
That guitar solo frim a great heavys blues rockall time young🙌🏽 child records. R espect from 🇲🇽🤠
