      @Neteruk Před 2 lety +60

      Well, if Magneto was written in the fullest capacity of his power (and there are no real upper limits). You'd end up with an omnipathic character capable of doing just about anything. From changing universal constants, to even ending the multiverse. The reason they give for him not achieving this, is also BS. The guy can evolve himself into a non-natural being. Making his cells stars and his skin a matrice of blackholes, riding himself of all organs as a result. The level of OP would be so unreasonable that there would be absolutely no way to do anything about him. I think the only reasonable way to write him like that, is if he were from a different timeline, and something really bad happened, like Krakoa falling, Charles loosing faith in humanity and unlocking magneto fully before dying. Probably tell him to avenge mutant kind, then it goes into a wholesale and absolute slaughter of an entire universe. Everything, including the eternity, nexus being and far garden (where celestials go when they die). Then enter the main one, and keep to himself, until nimrod comes for mutants...then reveals himself to the universe. Probably asking (quite threateningly) the Captain Britain corps, to send a message to infinity itself. "All universes that persecute mutant-kind will be cleansed, and left fertile for mutants to occupy." Probably do a cleansing of the DOFP universe, as an illustration of what they face.
      That would likely open up a new comics line of this, 'omni-magneto' acting as the multiversal guardian of evolution. More brutal than the living tribunal, and more direct than anyone. Character could be used to start crisis events when marvel writes a shitty story. Just add mutant persecution, Omni-magneto comes in, and wipes everything clean...leaving only mutants.

    This for me, feels like the most incomplete of all the Hickman runs. His FF and his Avengers have definite beginnings and definite endings. They have always been about two men-one who creates, while the other destroys. It was Reed and Doom in the FF, while it was Steve and Tony. From the first time Nimrod appeared in the comics, (X-men 191) I've liked the character. Back when there was none of the subsequent story and retcon and master mold and whatever it was obvious that:
    1. Nimrod was created by the writers to "clean house" whenever they needed.
    2. This was a character that would cause future writers difficulty.
    Nimrod was one of those ultimate threats for the entire Marvel mutant comics. An adversary that was more of a tool for the writers that ultimately had to be phased out do to the shear power and something that is touched on in this last major appearance of Nimrod in Marvel. I don't think we will see Nimrod again however.
    Also, one reason why I liked the character was that the basic idea behind its power was that it didn't simply augment itself to counter any opponent(s) - like getting stronger than the Hulk. Rather, Nimrod's counters were often well outside the box thinking or so rudimentary that the reader was like, why didn't anyone think of this before? It is so simple. If I recall, Nimrod took out the Juggernaut with ultrasonic sound not brute force. Even very powerful mutants feared this ultimate sentinel.

    As a racial and sexual minority born and raised in the South, I've always recognized and appreciated the X-Men allegory. For the exact same reason, I've always found the allegory darkly comical because of how extremely it mirrors real life bigotry and hatred. I mean, Omega Sentinel flat out says to Orchis that, as far as machines are concerned, mutants and humans are the same thing...and they are. The only thing that differentiates a human from a mutant is the expression of an extremely rare gene. Imagine considering red heads to be part of an entirely different species worthy of contempt simply because they express an incredibly rare gene that the rest of us don't.
    What I find strange about the X-Men mythos is that baseline humans hate mutants for having natural super abilities but simultaneously turn a blind eye to humans who are similarly superpowered through means other than a genetic birthright. So Johnny Storm can walk around free from hate and persecution because he gained fire powers through a freak accident in the cosmos, yet Sunfire is hated and persecuted because he was born with essentially the same powers?

      I think it literally seeing a random person randomly gifted with random powers who randomly decidea what THEY can do to you.
      Kinda like Pyskers in 40k where this ONE Alpha level Pysker took over a entire world and had them marching to his beat. Or this fleet of space pirates that shot a missle with a old man... he spoke the word "Silence" and half of the fleet that jeard the memtic virus died horrible and had to sever all comms or risk a ENTIRE legion going under.

      What about Ben Grimm? Surely he has it worse than both. As long as a mutant doesn't have an altered physical appearance and can control their powers, how do you even know they're a mutant? When a group of people are actually being persecuted, they typically try to keep a low profile to avoid being detected. When they can go into the CZcams comments and immediately start talking about being a mutant minority... they're not really persecuted, they're just seeking attention. Of course, this is just a hypothetical scenario you may encounter in a comic story, no one in real life would engage in such a shameless pageantry of imaginary victimhood.

    This run of X-Men comics completely ASCENDS every mutant to a whole new level. Apocalypse seeing his vision come true, and then commiting self sacrifice for the Mutantkind, and defeating his wife in battle was phenomenal. The complex mingling of philosophies and ideals reborn in Krakoa is so intriguing. Then you have the ELEVATED fight between Professor X and Magneto at their fiercest level against Omega and Nimrod. And it's just amazing. Which btw, I think Magneto would have won that fight if he'd have completely ANNIHILATED Omega. Because if she hadn't been alive enough to dampen his powers, he'd have destroyed the Nimrods. Even if Nimrod is made from mostly non-metallic materials, he'd have circuitry which would have elements which could be influenced by magnetism. Even such advanced technology as Quantum computing utilizes materials like that, thus in his utter RAGE and at a level of power we have rarely seen, he'd have been able to destroy core systems of the Nimrods, even if they can repair their bodies. In which case should mean that he'd win. Unless I've missed something..
    - And Moira's idea is both ingenious and EVIL. And I don't use that word often.. I truly hate Moira now.

Think of the future technology that would have been learned and secretly implemented without mind readers knowing? Think of Moira mind knowing so much history how much it processes, recalls, and formulates. If a normal uses a small % of brain cells to function, what might her % be? If she had already been aware of the Forge neutralizer, would she not have had the capability to work on a restorer? This Nimrod is about the same as the Nimrod the Lesser that killed Apocalypse in Moira's life 9.

    I had to see your take on this. I have been thinking and mentioned it on other CZcamsr sites, that Moira's future isn't so bleak as you proposed. The weapon used on Moira was one that Forge used on Storm and yet, she recovered her power. It 'depowers' a mutant, but it doesn't mean they aren't mutant anymore. Secondly, with Trial of Magneto, we've seen Scarlet Witch, a non-mutant revived through the resurrection protocol, because she was once backed up as a mutant. That is one option that could be brought back because the Quiet Council will reach the mindset that given Moira's experiences, that she is necessary to be brought back, much as some of the depowered mutants through crucible are brought back. Third, Scarlet Witch's recent in Trial and Darkhold, has already created a virtual environment of previous mutants, that John Proudstar or Thunderbird is brought back, thus Moira could still be brought back as Mutant, and thus, her '10' life may not end even if she is depowered. Is the timeline, her life, or her power? By depowering her timeline life, doesn't that mean the timeline ends? Having a car loses power while going one hundred miles fast. If the fuel runs out, but somehow, while traveling, the car could be refueled, would the engine be able to restart and continue? Or Scarlet Witch might Chao magic and change her back into mutant ability. The other thought is that given Moira's numerous lives, she has knowledge of events/technologies that could make her incredibly wealthy/well off that given Destiny should be more worried about Orchis/Nimrod-Omega Sentinel threat than Moira, as if she were able to foresee Moira's threat so early, why didn't she see the threat of Nimrod-Omega Sentinel? As for the Quiet Council, the ending would also produce the fact that none of the current members of the Council can ever be replaced for worry of the 'secret' that they all share? Given the power of Proteus and Brian Braddock's brother being power reality changers, they could easily 'depower' the mutants or empower, lots of impact that other mutants might not be happy with them keeping a secret. Given Cypher/Warlock/Krakoa unity, with tech infection for communication, aren't they headed for a closer affinity to Omega-Sentinel/Nimrod, which poses a question of Krakoa vs Arakko, who are not the old compatibility? The shift in power with Emma complicit with Mystique/Destiny, Sebastion and Sinister, with Peter being unknown for his brother's manipulation, could be dire consequences for the Krakoa's survival in the future, since Destiny/Mystique might segue the prophies of future events? Is that why Blindfold is resurrected? Complications galore.

    X Men gets so philosophical, the one thing that got me is why Charles asked Doug to visit Krokoa knowing what his powers and personality are like. If that did not come into play later, it's a series of explosions that can't be stopped. Unless Charles had no idea this was a card, he had no idea he was playing. Well done issue. So good it reveals the error of writers not having long term deals in comics, if this is Hickman's baby he should see to its development.
    If there is any going forward from here it's what I always wanted for mutants the lack of infighting Charles sees them as a species but on every level, they are divided this series united them all with cause and a future.
    This works so well; Marvel should draw up terms of use policy on how future stories should be protected in narrative recon of a new writer should not touch the core union of this story to have it never happen. I will also say marvel seem to have set a stage they are aware there is a future destination for the X Men and Mutants.
    I like what was set on the Council they all have the sword of Damocles on them with this knowledge; it was also a measure that keeps Charles and Erik's seat but does not toss them out or where Sabertooth is. It is rightfully so that they all know.

Now in one instance, that could possibly be what Moria's Wikipedia entry says;"Perhaps Moira's merger with Warlock will give her a better understanding of the Technarchy, the alien species that Warlock comes from." Also, it could give Ramsey the ability to keep tabs on her.
    Also, since she is now part human, and part machine, two of mutantkind foes, she maybe become more dangerous since both Destiny and Mystique want her dead, and Moria now has no support.

    Honestly, it's difficult to say who's right here. Seriously. It's easy to say Moira is the wrong person, but she's been trying to make the model-T for over 1,000 years and it just doesn't work. At what point do you stop and say, "Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong."?
    On the other hand, the mutants only can cite this one, new, fresh experience. At what point do you say, "You had the right idea, but that 3 should've been a 7."?
    Both arguments are legitimately justified and I'm honestly interested in seeing how things turn out.
    Personally, I think Moira was right simply because this is a comic series, so there can never truly be lasting peace for the XMen.

    • @bradleypoe6846
      @bradleypoe6846 Před 2 lety

      Here's the thing of it, I think. On the one hand, the "whole story" or big picture no longer is Hickman's to tell and hasn't been for a while now. There's going to be elements moving forward now that aren't written as well but they WILL be forced into and upon what's happened here. They'll come from the X Lives/X Deaths of Wolverine arcs, and possibly the upcoming Avengers versus X-Men versus Eternals thing, called _Judgement Day._ So it's the nature of it that we don't know what's going to happen, and also it likely won't be good.
      Breaking it down further: Moira's perspective, as such, is that "mutants always lose" but that is her implicit bias talking here. The current (Hickman) take on the character is that she's always been repulsed by mutants and that the only way to "save them" is by literally castrating them before the humans or the A.I. machines get to them.
      From what we've seen the A.I. machine perspective is that "mutants always win", but that's their implicit bias talking here since the ones we know about, _all_ of the ones we know about on the X-Men side of affairs, are derived from Sentinels, machines made to murder mutants. So if they keep seeing scenarios where their planned-for genocide never happens, or if they see scenarios where they don't get to do it, because the mutants are wiped out by MacTaggert (as such) first, well, what are they supposed to think, then? They never get to do what they're designed to do.
      You can keep repeating these same things with mutants and with humans too: that their positions on the other races are informed by their implicit biases, that there are no unbiased players as yet. This plays out very much like a Hickman story, albeit with a Young Adult Novel flavor (Which Faction are you? Mutant, A.I., Transhuman, Mainstream Human or MCU Almighty?). On the one hand this means you could make this a new status quo indefinitely.
      On the other? Marvel Comics won't allow that since putting all mutants on Krakoa literally takes the X-Books about as far "outside the scope of comic books" as anything Chris Claremont could have imagined. So what do you do?
      You make Judgement Day. You call out Krakoa for being a _Deviant_ and not a mutant, saying he was a weapon the Eternals were going to use to erase their experiment gone bad. Or some such. Then you have the Avengers show up pulling the literal " . . .but 'not all' humans have an implicit bias" argument even though on a societal level _societies_ act as if everyone does. In short you shovel a LOT of predictable and very much Disney-Mandated MCU Supremacy all over the thing until people get disgusted with it. It solves the "problem" of Hickman's scenario, but not in any way fans appreciate of course. In the end the Company is all that matters and they get their excuse to "go back to the previously shitty new normal." Seriously.

    • @bradleypoe6846
      @bradleypoe6846 Před 2 lety

      @awesomelife98 I know. I read a lot of that back when it was new. :) I'm just saying, what Marvel Comics, as such, and what Disney in particular, want are completely different from what makes decent X-Men writing. Marvel wants superheroes because that IS their niche. They could have stuck with romance comics (they once owned the market on those) but they didn't. Disney just plain wants Intellectual Property to exploit that doesn't interfere with their MCU Parade (to put it politely). Neither of these lets you do decent X-Men writing long-term because nobody wants character-oriented hard science fiction in a comic book. Look up how many people on these videos have whined and complained that they "didn't get" the early, political issues of this Inferno arc. There's a piece of your answer. Some people have no patience with anything that isn't KA-POW or Ker-SPLAT Flavored. **lol**
