- Ronny Dahl from 4 Wheeling In Western Australia runs through the do's and don'ts when it comes to performing a double line pull. If you're new to using a winch, this is the video for you. Find Ronny's channel at / ronbacardi666 or visit www.4-wheeling-...
We have destruction tested shackles in my line of work, the old back off the shackle thing dose effect the shackle, think about it ,if you are stretching the shackle enough so the thread is locking so hard that you struggle to release the pin then you are not using a big enough shackle, manufactures design them to be snug. Great vid.
FYI on a rigging recommendation I see ALL except professional riggers repeat. Loosen the shackle 1/2 turn. The shackle has that hole in the screw pin for a reason. When you install the pin should make full contact with the bow. Tighten to hand tight. When the load is lifted the pin will have tightened up. Use a spud wrench loosen pin ie the hole. NOW before I get yelled at. You can get by with following Ronnie's advice and all the others as long as you are not maximum loading the shackle. A loose pin will allow under "max loads" or "improper angles" for the Bow to become bent de-grading/bending the shackle bow. If the pin does not screw in and out easily, the shackle should be destroyed.
Now, back to the recovery.:)
Twh Az You are 100% correct!
As simmering who works in the rigging industry and has seen things fail please for the love of god stop backing off your shackles when you crank them down. It’s not hard to bring a good screwdriver or punch with you to loosen them up. Rated shackles are not made to be used with a loose shackle pin.
great too see two of my fav 4wd youtubers do a collab - good stuff gents
+DropAgiantTurd thanks bud! And may I commend you on the most original CZcams name I have come across thus far! :D
+Intents Offroad hahaha, finally someone who appreciates it
great video hope to see some more collaboration videos with two 4wd professionals.
An outstanding crossover episode! Great stuff, guys.
That is awesome you and Ronny have hooked up
Awesome! great collaboration :)
Came from ronny's channel. Subbed!!
Ronny Dahl you are the boss when it comes to off road recovery! I have learned half of what I know regarding off road recovery from Ronnys video series/ the other half I had to learn (earn) on the back country.
At 3:36 specifically. Ronny seems to take steps protecting his vehicle rather than the person in the recovery vehicle. Remember that in this case ronny is behind a steel canopy. the recovering person only has a windshield. (this person is in the most danger) So there should be 2 blankeys around the pully. should the strap fail at the bow shackle the person in the recovery vehicle will have a full size pully flying his way.
Awesome collab with Ronny. The trip looked awesome and I know how much you love the mud and water haha nice note to the Patrol might I add mate
I've been waiting for this collaboration! Love both of your channels!
Good Stuff guys, nice video on how to do a double line pull
you guy´s are great... greetings from germany
nice work gents!
It's sooo awesome two see two cool off roaders making an awesome video together! Keep it up guys! I am an old subscriber to both of you :D
+XxKO3xX thanks bro!

+Rolly B Lad! Glad you enjoyed it Rolly
Well done guys !!
Brilliant work Ronnie and mate, i would love to come out with you lot one day and learn learn learn
love the videos mate I think if you uploaded more frequently you would have way more subscribers
+Charlie M Thanks mate, I think you're right I probably would have more! Might try and make this stuff more regular :)
Good work 👍
Aye mate your steering wheel is on the worng side
How much "stretch" did the yank straps give you before the winch line was tight enough to start pulling the vehicle up?
+Dustin B Those ones were winch extension straps which probably have a little bit of stretch, but not enough to really notice as opposed to a "snatch" or "yank" strap which is around 20% :)
damn you mean to say that Ronny does stuff up and get into situations that HE needs help... lol... good to see how this works and the good use of the log etc..
Yep 😁 most of the time these days he's just breaking diffs and needing help though 😄
@@Alex.G maybe that's because of all the mods he has done lol..
The stick keeps the knot from closing and having to be cut out because it was wet.
hey Alex, great to see you two guys working together... I'm just not sure, what you've done / how you switched to the second snatch strap, after the winch was coiled, without loosing Rony's truck?
+Paul P It was a case of chocking Ronny's wheels, and having me switch the straps around while Ronny stayed in the vehicle, in gear with his foot on the brake, and letting the tension off very slowly to make sure he didn't move!
Love your channel Mate some really good & fun stuff. Two questions Mate, 1. When you use the double line method does it increase the winch's pulling power say a 6,000lbs winch to a 12,000lbs pull or there about ? & 2. The winch mat's that are placed over the line are they weighted or just a vinyl material.
Kind Regards & Safe Bush Bashin, Steve.
1. Yes, it does double the strength of the winch.
2. They are a vinyl like material with a small bit of weight. There is a pouch on the inside of them that you can put an extra strap, or something to give extra weight. Never place a metal object in them, as it could just become another potential projectile.
Hey Alex great video mate! Just wondering if you patrol has lockers?
+Bilivit Onot Thanks buddy! Nah no lockers on the Patrol, haven't reallllly found too much need for them yet. Sure I could get through more tough tracks, but I choose to save myself a few thousand dollars and take the chicken track :D
Winch noob here, I've seen in my manual to remain in neutral while winching yourself out, but is there actually risk of damaging the winch by potentially lurching forward while the winch is engaged? Do you guys leave it in gear or neutral and do you give it any throttle? Thanks
+Ryan Roop hey Ryan. You're right it does look somewhat damaging to the winch, and it certainly sounds like it doesn't like all the lurching around. In my opinion, remaining in neutral is preferred, but when there is a huge load on the winch I believe it is better to give it a little throttle. In this instance the surface was so slippery that the tyres spinning didn't have enough grip to lurch the vehicle and damage the winch, but just made the job easier by reducing some of the winch's workload :)
Alright that sounds smart, I'll try to leave it in neutral most of the time
The "put it in neutral" statement is to protect your automatic transmission. So many cars/trucks/4x4 vehicles are automatic these days that blanket statements are made. This is because if you leave it in park, and the parking brake slips, you are putting a HUGE load on the parking pawl. If that starts to slip/break, you are in for a world of hurt.
I do love the sound of a turbo V8 diesel.
Great recovery. (got here from Rohnny's channel). I want to ask you - what tyre and how much lift you have on this patrol?
+Miigaa Erdenetsogt Cooper ST tyres, 285/75 and a 3 inch lift. You can watch a video about it here: czcams.com/video/D5AnOWcqfqk/video.html
Great, thanks. i checked this video earlier and that is great. Another question, how about the offset of the rim? Just want to know if i can use the same size tire on my stock rim.
+Miigaa Erdenetsogt No idea what the offset on those wheels is mate, they are the stock GU steel rims if that's any help to you?
Thanks Mate, that was helpful. now i know i can use my stock rims with that size tire. Cheers from Mongolia, where the terrain is also tough and vehicles like 70, 80 series cruisers, GU and GQs are praised.
+Miigaa Erdenetsogt Zero offset on those mate
I've noticed something....Australians do lots of boating and off-roading.
With that being said. .is this video from Australia? Lol
Hey there Alex, what brand winch are you running?
After all these years I actually still don't have a winch! The one doing the work in this video was a ridge ryder. They seem pretty good!
Hey there.
Could you point me to video of 4:35 what is going on there.
have a look at this one :) czcams.com/video/As0RTB2aS64/video.html
when using a double line pull to move the stuck vehicle why not attach the hook to tree if close to the vehicle, less strain on the pulling vehicle.
+Jim Lewandowsky that is actually a very good idea, something I'm gonna try and keep in the back of my mind for future recoveries
whats the theory behind the "rotten piece of wood"?
+MrJewripper okay, the idea is that when you join two straps by looping them through one another like this, you have to wedge something between the join or else they bind together and you'll never break them apart. If you join them with a shackle, you introduce a lethal projectile should something break; so something soft yet relatively sturdy is best. I've linked to a video of mine now which explains the process further :)
+MrJewripper A rolled up newspaper or magazine is ideal instead of anything heavy.
+bigfella65 yup, too right there!
+MrJewripper that is so they can get the straps apart ,cheers
Intents Offroad I don’t see a linked video? Could you post the URL. Thanks
why did u use a double pull ,, its not that bad
How do you know? Ronnie's vehicle was very heavy at that point and its bogged to the chassis and its up a hill. All of those factors would indicate its going to be a hard pull. You also don't know what the winch is rated. If you burn out your winch then your stuck there all night plus have to buy a new winch. Being conservative a double line pull was a good call. Also, makes for a more interesting video.
@@neutronstorm ronnie is full of shit,,,if he was as bad as needing double pull it would drag the other 4x4 down the hill,,, he tell alot of shit,,, an if u look at the vid u will see he is not bogged ,, he slipped off the road,,
I would have head off into the trees and made a new track back up..
In this situation , I’d rather use the car winch.
SMH !
is this a joke video?
Depends on your sense of humour I guess!
