    Dude, I’ve been making my first armature and I was looking for a tutorial exactly like this earlier this morning. I couldn’t find anything, and then you just magically uploaded this shit like an hour later. This is a miracle. You’ve been sent by the sculpture gods. Thanks, man

      Hey thank you! That's great to hear the video helped you out. Removing frustrations from the process will make it creative and enjoyable.

    You spoke more about your life story than jointed armature

      Haha, I should probably just stick to the art instead of attempting to be an "influencer"

    Your method of creating armature is going to save me so much steel wire compared to some other tutorial videos I was watching

    The best armature tutorial I've ever seen on youtube :) very detailed!

      @@FritzHoppe Thanks for your reply! If I may ask, I need your professional advice. Do I still need to use an armature for hard wax/hard oil based clay or can I even use it for miniatures? The clay itself is strong enough for large sculptures but it still feels a little soft for miniatures like d&d. Wax liquefies when heated and very hard to apply on wire armature as it drips like water. I never saw someone in youtube used hard wax or hard oil based clay for miniatures but saw some folks using greenstuff or some type of epoxy but we don't have those where I live. Sorry for my english but thank you so much for your time and take care :)

    Armatures are really overpriced to buy them. This is a good method to save a few bucks and get what you really need. Good job!

      wood or anything with a relatively straight edge is much better that wire only.

    I wonder if you put the dowel into a power drill, then low speed hit it with the disc sander? Just a thought. Good video

    How do you connect the wooden pieces to create joints though with the wire? 😊

    • @FritzHoppe
      @FritzHoppe  Před 4 lety

      I use one strand of wire with both pieces attached to it, to make an arm or leg.

      How do you get the wire through the wooden pieces?

    • @FritzHoppe
      @FritzHoppe  Před 4 lety +2

       Annika The wire does not go all the way through the wood. I use a drill bit with the same diameter as the wire, then drill into each end of the wood pieces (I always hold the little wood pieces using a bench vice).

    • @FritzHoppe
      @FritzHoppe  Před 4 lety +1

      Then the armature limbs are connected after I poke sections of wire into the holes I had drilled.

    A few thoughts ... My prayers are with your family ... I saw the farm video first. Great video for armatures, I was looking for something else in the way of an armature. How does this translate down to small scale figures from 40 mm down to 15 mm in size. At 15 mm those wood "bones" would be nearly microscopic.

    • @FritzHoppe
      @FritzHoppe  Před 5 lety

      Thank you, we appreciate it. Everything is okay as the family is rebuilding property.
      Creating an armature that small could be done with very fine steel wire. You could probably order some online. The steel wire would be much stiffer and stronger than the tie wire i usually use.
      I suggest cutting pieces of the steel wire to lengths of the bones, then you could use a more malleable wire (perhaps copper) to wire around tiny limbs.
