You won't be surprised when I tell you that I think it's an absolutely beautiful instrument, though I fear Fender maybe went a bit too far in trying to copy a Les Paul with their '72 deluxe. The position of the switch and the four knobs is just so cheeky!
It is and it isn't, I feel if they went with a set in neck and came with no pick guards I'd say it's more of a steal, but they really are their own flavor tonally and build wise. Georgoeus guitar indeed tho.
I have this guitar, and it's great. Easy to play, has attitude and sounds great through a cranked Marshall. You don't really buy it for the cleans. That's what a strat is for ;-)
I bought it 2nd hand from a store, and tried it against a USA Tele Deluxe at 3x the price. I actually preferred the Shifty.
The longer I've played guitar the more I actually like dual humbucker guitars clean, it's not initially what you think of them for but for example the last two Les Paul Custom's I've had in were very, very good clean and well obviously, fantastic with gain. I feel it's a very overlooked part of humbucker instruments.
These are a hell of a deal either way. The USA Tele Deluxe was a 72 reissue I'm guessing? Totally different kind of animal indeed, the wide range humbuckers are pretty different in design and tone than traditional humbuckers like the shifty has. I wish Fender would have kept guitars in this price range with the accessories and features the Shifty had. To me it's the last insane value the Mexican factory has offered... hard shell case, unique neck, pickups designed exclusively for this guitar, AND a signature model on top of that? That's going to cost you double now from that factory plus you're only getting a gig bag... You did well choosing it!

I own this guitar in black with the white pickguard. Bought it a few years ago used for around $500. This color combo is hard to find. I also hated the electronics and swapped it out for a 920D Pearly Gates loaded guard. I also had a full fret dress done which helped quite a bit. Still have it hanging on my wall and it doesn’t get a lot of play time cause I mostly gig my PRS S2 Mira which I also swapped the electronics for some Duncan Saturday Night Specials which is a great pairing for that guitar. I might gig the Shiflett Tele tomorrow night though 😆
How do you like those Saturday Night specials? I haven't met anyone that has them installed, but they are very interesting to me and I could get a set for a bit under cost if I wanted to.

This video popped up in my feed this morning. Curious if you ever put those Saturday Night Specials in your Les Paul and how you liked them? BTW - I put the Shiflett pickups back in the Tele Deluxe and man what a mistake. Actually planning to sell it and find something else.
These guitars seem to have a fairly strong reputation on the aftermarket. I have heard multiple people complain about the frets though and the pickups seem to be hit or miss from example to example. It's one of the only signature guitars that I really see people wanting/playing as an instrument as opposed to just liking the endorser though.
I think it has to do with it being such a good price, with a flatter than normal fretboard and humbuckers... Outside of the nashville tele which is entirely based on a different kind of player there isn't much really that really hits all those at this price. I liked a lot about this guitar and could see someone modifying the hell out of one and loving it. You are right as well in your belief that it has little to do with it being Chris's signature model.
Price went up now and it's $900 used.

The neck was great, I loved the feel of the guitar itself. I'm just spoiled rotten with guitar pickups I guess
I've heard OK things about the Shiflett, though I think my MIJ Troublemaker can do whatever it can do, and then some.
My verdict on both says it all, I would absolutely rebuy the Troublemaker and not even consider buying another Shiflett.

I have the player series HH tele and I think it’s a gem. Similar to your but doesn’t have that wrap around pick guard. It does have a split coil option , does that one ?
This one has different pickups and electronics, I really wish it did come with the coil splits they make these kinds of guitars so much more useful.
@@AudiomoMusic ya well don’t be too jealous, I think I’m gonna trade this one back in. I don’t know what it is but I also just got a squire classic vibe jazz master and it’s so much better , just a better guitar period. So I’m gonna trade this in and get another classic vibe maybe even two.

MIM is not as good as made in USA. I’ve tried to give them a fair chance but it doesn’t work for me. Of all my guitars and I have many, Gibsons, Jackson’s and Fenders, the only guitars that came set up ready to play were my made in USA Fender.
I'm going to have to agree with you on the MIM. I've only had two that weren't total dogs out of the gate. I doubt I'll buy another one.
I play G&L but own a few Fenders so I'm not really biased on the mia or mim discussion. I can say it's 100% dependent on the model. I'll take my mim classic series 60s over a early 2000s standard strat or a mia series with the Yosemite pickups.
