The humbuckers in those guitars aren’t anything different than most other humbuckers. The “weird” pickups you refer to would be the CuNiFe Wide-Range pickups found on the old regular telecaster Deluxe from the 70’s and current Vintage II’s.
The pickups in the first Am Pro Tele DLX were the regular Shawbuckers found in other Pro’s with buckers. The buckers in the Pro II’s are tappable V Mod II’s. In both cases they just have special covers on them and the slugs/screws are switched so the screws are what you see through the cover holes. Traditional Wide Range CuNiFe buckers are noticeably bigger than what those 2 guitars have.

Interesting. I guess they are just voiced in a different way that I wasn't expecting.

@@FastRedPonyCar dig your vids. They happened to pop up on my YT home page. I remember you from the old Harmony Central and GuitarAmpBoard message board days! Sometimes I miss the drum jam threads!

Unless something has recently changed. The Shiflett Tele has a 12” radius. Not compound. Also you wrote it has a heel truss rod adjustment in your dislikes. Obviously it’s a bullet truss rod. Otherwise liked the review.

Once when I was at my local store the silver burst caught my eye (because well silverburst) so I tried it a bit and the pickups were so underwhelming and lifeless and I don't know about you but I don't like dropping that kinda cash on a guitar that I already dropped a ton of cash on. And as always thanks for always being a staple in the high gain world!

Thanks dude. Yeah I get where they came from with the pro II. It’s got a sound formula they seem to stick to pretty closely and I think in general, fender tend to stick very closely to traditional design and leave the hot rods to their Charvel crew to build (which is probably the same Mexico factory the Shiflett guitar was made).
I think as a tele with a bigger sound and cooler aesthetics, it hits the mark but the fretwork is what really got under my skin. The Shiflett guitar had better fretwork :/
I think a deluxe pro II owner could probably sell those pickups and complete wiring harness and break even buying some decent Alnico II or V pickups and 4x CTS 500k pots and have a WAY cooler rock guitar that has a sound to match the aesthetics.
