      Fact is Swiss companies are mainly building tunnels in Austria and Austrian companies in Switzerland. Thanks to the weird bidding rules in Europe. This tunnel was in large parts built by STRABAG, based in Vienna.

    The designing of the different components of the conveyor belt and their smooth interplay is truly impressive. The fact that most of the materials are also created by the same company and can be specially fitted according to the shape of the tunnel is ingenious. This makes the process as fast, safe and efficient as possible.

    WOW !!! I knew it was complicated to drill a tunnel, but I had NO IDEA it was like that. To not only drill a gigantic hole thru a mountain, but to seal against ground water and build a rebar reinforced concrete pipe with a secondary ceiling and all those work platforms and jigd and lifts...there was some hifaluting brainstorming going on to come up with that system! WOW

      There are too many reasons to list in this reply but you have to imagine the possibilities of deeper space travel which in return gives a deeper understanding to the universe we live in. If the first aquatic creature to "step" on dry land didn't take that chance, who knows where we would be on the evolutionary scale. Excitement, adventure, only Jedi crave not those things;)

    A dear friend of mine who recently passed, Robert Kassouf was in the tunnel business.Based out of Cleveland Ohio.
    He even designed and built one of their machines. Incredible business. Very profitable. People have no idea what is under them.

      It's easy to be impressed by heavy engineering. Most of the ingenuity behind the Webb Telescope is out of sight. Just think about the communications problem alone. Think about the launch and deployment systems. Think about the alignment systems and its resolving power. The whole endeavour is staggering. This is very impressive but it's just drilling a hole, on Earth.

      @@Tom-ku8bu corn isn't even that healthy for you. Maybe if we had the stomachs of termites... plants have cell walls, animal cells do not. These cell walls of cellulose are impossible to digest for humans and can build up. In *small* quantities however, these cellulose fibers can act a bit like a broom for the intestines.
