- Visiting with our Elders as the recall their childhood and growing up Cherokee. Rosie Brown Green grew up around the Lenapah and lives in the South Collinsville area.
Rosie’s great grandparents came over on the Trail of Tears from Georgia. Her father would use plants for medicine to help their family and people in the community.
She would go with her father to pick the plants and gather stuff to eat as well.
They drove to church in a wagon and she talks about the inter-urban street car. She used to catch crawdads after a good rain and they would cook them right where they were for some good eating.
Wow this is so amazing because my dad's name was William Brown, on his father's birth certificate it says black Indian and his mother 100% Cherokee.
Sure didn't learn the real history of America in school, but now I can teach the truth to my grandchildren.

Absolutely, they came through and just named you based on skin color when we all know darker skin Cherokee. They don't always acknowledge us though.
My Grandma was 💯 Cherokee. I noticed on the CZcams channel that they don't mention that Cherokees mixed with German/Jewish in 1800's and they would just call them Americans on birth certificates after they charged their names through colonization. ??????? They mostly show Seminoles Alaskan Indians.??????.

This is a Great Story of American History that the history books left off
Most of the adopted Delawares (Lenape) and Shawnees were sent to these NE areas of Cherokee Reservation. The Delawares and Shawnees are landless tribes who never got the reservations promised to them by the U.S. Government. Instead they were adopted and pushed into Cherokee Nation when their Kansas Reservations were sold to the railroads. Adopted under the same Treaty of 1866 that adopted the Descendants of Cherokee Freedmen.
